NCI Trial IP Chemo
If interested, you can google this. I am starting 5 of 6 Cycles of IV paclitaxel weekly and IP carboplatin for a 2nd recurrence of Stage IV endometrial cancer. The chemo treatment has been refined and is not that difficult. I think that close to 90% of women complete the 6 Cycles. When I complete the 6 Cycles, I will post…

I fear My mom is nearing the end
In May of 2010, my mom was diagnosed with stage iv ovarian cancer. My family didn't believe it. She was the healthiest person I knew. After many rounds of chemo, it seemed like the cancer was going away. Then in November, she had surgery to reverse her colostomy bag, thats when we were told there was a lot more cancer then…

Linda, platelets, Gatorade and Sugar
My one concern with the Gatorade is that it has a lot of sugar, and I've read that cancer likes sugar. I didn't get my platelet number this morning, but I was concerned when I saw a small patch of bruising on my arm. One of the signs we look for with son is patches of petechia (sp?). These are the tiny freckle size red…

Taxol maintenance number 11....and 1 to go
I had Taxol consolidation number 11 today, plus spoke to my doctor about "stuff" in general. I asked him why he said, last visit, that I was probably his last patient to get the 12 months of Taxol. He said because the "newest" trend is to give Avastin as maintenance, or to recommend only "wait and see". Avastin is iffy…

coping with chronic cancer article
While I believe the ladies on this website already know much of what is in this article, there has been a lot of discussion on how we cope and what does chronic cancer mean. I found this article very helpful and even passed it on to friends and family members to help them understand. Womens Health Magazine was kind enough…

Big Surprise !
I think even my dr was surprised ! My CT/Pet scan did not find any cancer ! I just finished six rounds of carbo/taxol. Originally she thought she would have to go back in after chemo as she could not take out all the cancer without removing the entire colon. Now she is going to give me six rounds of Avastin. They did see…

Booked to give blood!
Lol! I am really excited! I have just booked in to give my first pint of blood! Before mum was diagnosed I hadn't even considered it, but after going into the chemo lounge and seeing people having blood transfusions , it has inspired me to do it. I know it may not be used for someone on chemo, but I feel I am helping in a…

You all may know that Doxil didn't work for me as it took me into the hospital and didn't prevent fluid accululation around one of my lungs. So my onc put me back on Carbo/taxol as I responded so well to it the first time round. Well yesterday was my second infusion and it all went well. Best news of all ...... I also got…

I AM SO PISSED OFF VENTING!!!!!!!!
Okay, so for those who do not remember I was a Stage 2b in May of 2009. I have been getting a blood draw every 30 days for 19 months. My CA-125 post surgery was a 10 and I bottomed out at 5 after 6 carbo/taxol treatments. So this whole 19 months my CA-125 has always been between 6 and 8. So, I get my blood draw in December…

Okay, okay, I'll try the diet! Anyone doing a nutritional diet?
After 3 years my sons finally won out and I'm going to improve my nutrition. Can anyone tell me some things they eat that you find enjoyable. I'm cutting out dairy (I love Milk and Cheese), sugar, white bread, and soft drinks. The only thing I feel I'll have a problem with is milk. Also, how much meat is good per month? Is…

CA125 dropped 60 points! YEA! But platelets dropped to 10,000 so no chemo today. BOO!
Yes, it was a bummer to have my platelets tank to 10,000 after just 1 infusion of carboplatin. And, yes, I'm disappointed to have gotten a platelet transfusion today instead of my 2nd carbo infusion. (Funny how you can feel fine even with platelets that dangerously low, isn't it?) BUT, I am so THRILLED that something still…

Now I have shingles

Linda's GO appointment: Good News
Hello everyone. Friday was my wife's appointment with her gynecological oncologist. We've been going for treatments to a hospital closer to us (a good decision) but retained the GO for supervision and the fact that he's been treating her since 2005. This was my wife's third go-round with chemo, Cisplatin and Taxotere. The…
