I need information please
Hi, my sister-in-law (47 yrs old) had a hystorectomy today for what her doctor/oncologist thought was uterus cancer. We were also told by the doctor that my sister-in-law (Linda) had a large fibrosis tumor (not cancerous)on the uterus. Well, when she opened Linda up to do the hystorectomy she discovered it was not a…

Mom is 27 radiation and 6 chemo treatments down. She has had pretty much every reaction you could imagine plus some I didn't even think could happen. She ended up in the hospital before Christmas with a pulmonary embolism. Got out 4 days before Christmas but ended up in ER on Christmas day due to dehydration. She wasn't…

Weight loss....
Just wondering what everybody does to combat the weight loss associated with chemo. My mom is 5'9" and usually a thin 130 pounds. She's down to 108 right now and it's still pouring off her. She just started taking decadron so I'm hoping that helps quickly. She has an appetite but gets full very fast. Plus usually throws up…

My medical center has not been able to do any ca125 testing due to a nationwide problem with the 'reagents' or 'reactors' used. They said the FDA was involved and they are not able to get any 'good' reagents. Is anyone else having this problem. They are drawing my blood but saving it for testing. My blood was draw over…

Ladies....be your own advocate
At the end of our last episode, Carlene had talked to Dr Sabbatini's clinical trial nurse and his scheduler, who gave her preliminary approval and penciled her in for a Jan 19th appointment, re the vaccine trial at MSK. Her local gyn/oncologist's office promised to fax over her records ASAP. (That was for the edification…

Is there no hope for remission for me?
I was diagnosed with stage IV Sept. 10th. The gyn/onc was not able to complete the surgery as planned to debulk and a complete hysterectomy because there was so much cancer in my abdomen. I had the omentum removed, a colostomy, and as much cancer as possible removed before my blood pressure dropped and I was losing a lot…

Update and thanks for the prayers
First of all, thanks for all the prayers......I really appreciate it. Results: My mother's liver tumor grew an inch over the past 2 months. Neither the PARPS or Doxil worked for her. They are pulling her from the trial and placing her on Taxol. I don't know if the doctor was just being nice but we asked if this was the end…

Abdominal fluid
I just got my CTScan results. It shows moderate amount of fluid in my abdomen. This explains the rise in CA125 (it's 3000). Anyone else had fluid in their abdomin. What was the treatment? Can the fluid be removed? Will chemo get rid of the fluid? Is chemo alway necessary? Thanks for any answers.

Chemo postponed to next week due to low platelets
Unfortunately, my platelets were too low to have my 5th out of 6 chemos today. I am very familiar with the platelet issue as my son has a rare genetic syndrome that includes thrombocytopenia/low blood platelets. I belong to an online support group for individuals and family of persons with Thrombocytopenia Absent Radius…

For the past two months I have had a really "full" feeling in my abdomen - kind of like when you eat a real heavy meal but it never goes away. My other symptoms are: nauseau (getting increasingly worse and zofran not helping) cramps (feels like…

NCI Trial IP Chemo
If interested, you can google this. I am starting 5 of 6 Cycles of IV paclitaxel weekly and IP carboplatin for a 2nd recurrence of Stage IV endometrial cancer. The chemo treatment has been refined and is not that difficult. I think that close to 90% of women complete the 6 Cycles. When I complete the 6 Cycles, I will post…

I fear My mom is nearing the end
In May of 2010, my mom was diagnosed with stage iv ovarian cancer. My family didn't believe it. She was the healthiest person I knew. After many rounds of chemo, it seemed like the cancer was going away. Then in November, she had surgery to reverse her colostomy bag, thats when we were told there was a lot more cancer then…

Linda, platelets, Gatorade and Sugar
My one concern with the Gatorade is that it has a lot of sugar, and I've read that cancer likes sugar. I didn't get my platelet number this morning, but I was concerned when I saw a small patch of bruising on my arm. One of the signs we look for with son is patches of petechia (sp?). These are the tiny freckle size red…

Taxol maintenance number 11....and 1 to go
I had Taxol consolidation number 11 today, plus spoke to my doctor about "stuff" in general. I asked him why he said, last visit, that I was probably his last patient to get the 12 months of Taxol. He said because the "newest" trend is to give Avastin as maintenance, or to recommend only "wait and see". Avastin is iffy…

coping with chronic cancer article
While I believe the ladies on this website already know much of what is in this article, there has been a lot of discussion on how we cope and what does chronic cancer mean. I found this article very helpful and even passed it on to friends and family members to help them understand. Womens Health Magazine was kind enough…

Big Surprise !
I think even my dr was surprised ! My CT/Pet scan did not find any cancer ! I just finished six rounds of carbo/taxol. Originally she thought she would have to go back in after chemo as she could not take out all the cancer without removing the entire colon. Now she is going to give me six rounds of Avastin. They did see…

Booked to give blood!
Lol! I am really excited! I have just booked in to give my first pint of blood! Before mum was diagnosed I hadn't even considered it, but after going into the chemo lounge and seeing people having blood transfusions , it has inspired me to do it. I know it may not be used for someone on chemo, but I feel I am helping in a…
