What are the Steps for Treatment for Ovarian Cancer Stage 3?
A very good friend of mine told me she has ovarian cancer stage 3. They said it has spread to her lymph nodes. They prescribed her hexamethylamine, which is an oral chemo med. I find it strange that the doctor has not made plans to remove her ovary and the tumor. Is this normal? I am very worried about her and I want to…

looking good with cancer
I read an amusing article about a woman with cancer and how people would always comment how good she looked. I got a chuckle out of it thought you'd might enjoy it too. http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/shared/graphics/Living_Beyond_Cancer/Bridges/Fall_2010.pdf

I am here to stay
A friend sent me this song. Don't know if others have heard it or it has been posted about but it is great. The story behind it is wonderful. I think this is how to post a link but if not it is Sarah Mattea on you tube singing I am here to stay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FDOdC7wEkA Lori

Get this monster out of me please!!
On December 6th, shortly after I woke up, I noticed a large lump in my abdomen. Soon, I was being examined by a doctor friend of mine who told me to get to urgent care. I immediately went, and was told to go get an ultrasound performed. Got it. One hour later, I received the news. "A 12.8 cm solid and cystic mass in right…

Tina
I want everyone to keep Tina Brown in their thoughts. Last I heard, she is in the hospital with a high fever and had to have fluid drained from her lung. Let's all send positive thoughts and healing energy her way so she is feeling better soon.

Is this normal behavior?
Right on schedule my hair has started to fall out 2 weeks post first chemo. I went and paid $60 for a darling pixie hair cut that will last what? 2 days, 3 days? Geez, I should have used it toward a wig, some scarves, hat...but but....Oh well, I did ask her if I would have to pay for the hair cut if when she went to blow…

I am so afraid I'm going to lose
My battle. I was told today by my oncologist that after 2 rounds of Doxil, the PPC is spreading in the peritoneal lining. I was diagnosed the end of March of this year with PPC, with the cancer spreading to my lung. At the time of diagnosis I was given a 70 to 80% chance of survival. I went through the 6 rounds of…

Did you feel well even on the good days during chemo?
My mom reports that even after the 8 or 10 days post chemo infusion (and the real yucky days) she still doesn't feel "well". I told her that I thought that the effects of chemo may linger for even a few months after it is all over with. She remains concerned about it and plans to ask her gyn-onc. My dad thinks it is…

Drama in the chemo room
After battling the snow (we've have OVER 3 FEET in past 3 days!), I made it to my chemo session. Halfway through mt carbo portion of my chemo, my palms starting really itching and then turned hot and the color of raspberries. Then the extreme itching started in my ears and then my feet and groin! They stopped the carbo…

At her fingertips
Linda has had sore fingertips, especially the nails. Today at her scheduled chemo appointment the nurse called everything to a halt and consulted the medical oncologist, who called our gynecological oncologist (different hospital.) The Cisplatin/Taxotere mix was called off for today. I guess the sore nails are a bad sign,…

Need some insight
So Mom went to have her 7th treatment today and my sister tagged along for the first time. Mom is going for a second opinion on Wednesday so the oncologist did not do the chemo incase the other oncologist wants to do something else. Otherwise chemo will go forward next week. Here is what we learned: 1) Mom's tumour has not…

Chemo tomorrow.. then parole
Hi Loves, I go in for my zillionth chemo tomorrow, well actually I've been chemoing since last January and then I've been given the rest of the month off. I'm giddy with feeling of freedom that a mere three weeks will allow me. My CA-125's are still elevated, but a cat scan shows that my disease is stable, so I intend to…

New here...
Hi, I'm Tawny. My mom got diagnosed with ovarian cancer on Nov 4th. She just turned 50 in April. As devastated as we all are, I'm planning on arming myself with the best info I can to help her through this. She had a full hysterectomy on the 23rd of Nov with an appendectomy, removal of her omentum, and debulking. Got a…

What kinds of things do you do to take your mind off this monster?
Thank you all for your suggestions about diet in fighting this cancer. You have helped me to let go a bit and enjoy a few of the pleasures of life like eating some of my favorite things. I guess I'm learning about not allowing this monster to completely control my life. I was wondering, what kinds of things do you do that…

Jayne Armstrong....world's most amazing woman
Jayne posted a couple of days ago on Face Book that she had been out bike riding with a friend. She must be the only patient in the history of Hospice who can do that! Jayne has just passed her 8th anniversary with OC and continues to fight, even though she is no longer doing active treatment. The world needs more heroes…

Going back for a real second opinion
So as many of you may remember Mom's surgery was unsuccessful due to the location of her tumor. We asked for a second opinion at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and Mom's oncologist begrudingly sent her for one Sept 27th. Well it turns out Mom did not see a oncologist or a surgeon. She saw a clinical studies doctor.…

primary peritoneal?
A group of us women are terrified for our dear friend. She was resently diagnosed and is visiting her first oncologist tomorrow. We have read that the debulking surgery is the intial tratment done prior to chemo. Tumors were not located using a PET scan. We understand that merely means that the tumors are under 2cm.…

Good news I think
Mom and I went to the oncologist today. Her tumor markers with chemo only are down to 102, she's had two chemo's. They started at 770. So we are hoping and praying that the chemo will get it in remission before she even has surgery. The onc said the gyn/onc was very hesitant to do surgery on her because it might be…

Second surgery anyone?
Hi ladies, Mom had her initial surgery Sept 3rd and it was unsuccessful due to the location of the tumor. It was pretty well contained but it was too close to the blood supply to tell where the tumor started and the blood line ended. Today Mom had her fifth round of chemo. After four rounds her CA-125 number is 4,056 which…

Any suggestions for fighting OVC through diet?
I am at almost 3 months out from surgery and 3 chemo treatments for Stage IV . I have struggled with weight for years, and now wonder if it had anything to do with the crap that's probably been going on in this 54 year old body for years. I struggled with infertility to have my son for 9 years and had surgery for…
