Debulking surgery: Robotic vs Laproscopic vs Traditional for Primary peritoneal cancer
Hi I was just wondering if anyone out there has had surgery for PPC by any method other than traditional incision for debulking. My Mom is 86 and has had 4 chemo treatments of carboplatin (no taxol). Her gynicological oncologist has suggested that she have the debulking surgery with traditional incision. He can perform…

recommendation for "biography of cancer" book
I just finished a fascinating book called "The Emperor of All maladies, A Biography of Cancer" by Siddhartha Mukherjee. I saw it on NY Times list of 10 best books of 2010. I am not a science geek and my typical reading is fiction, mostly suspense and mystery. But I could hardly put this book down -certainly as a cancer…

finished treatment and NED
My CT scan was clear after having surgery and 6 rounds of chemo. I never felt or looked sick. I have low grade cancer, and my CA-125 is 6 now but was only 37 when I discovered a tennis ball sized tumor under my navel. CT scans and CA-125 are the best tools available for monitoring my disease, but they are not that great in…

2nd chemo harder than the first
I tried to prepare myself that chemo effects are cumulative but my 2nd infusion has really taken the wind out of my sails. Nausea manageable but oh my the deep bone pain is gruesome. I had to take 1/2 percocet last night to get some sleep. And heavy duty meds like that really do a number on me. So I'm not sure if today I…

CT results
My CT scan on Friday showed progression. Some areas were stable, some had progression. My GYN onc said the progression was by millimeters but progression none the less. No new areas, no major organs. No sign of bowel obstruction, do dilation of the colon. I guess this last part is good news in regard to my ongoing stomach…

recurrance in 4 months
My CA125 went from 22 to 46 to 59. I have different symptoms this time. I have nausea ,indigestion. My oncologist suggested I get a upper GI test and they said it was a fungus caused by the cancer. Did this happen to anyone? Is it a bad sign that I have a recurrance in only 4 months and when they start more chemo could I…

Takin' a break
I am going to try with all my will power (ha ha what's that?) to take a short break from the boards. I am not overwhelmed with Holiday activities (which would probably be a good distraction) and I find myself getting more absorbed in my cancer than is healthy for me. So I think a little "cold turkey"; get my head back in…

Recurrence and ascites
I’m hoping somebody can give me some advice about a possible recurrence. My treatment for stage iv ovca ended nearly 12 months ago and I’d been doing quite well until about 6 weeks ago when my abdomen started swelling. I mentioned it to the oncologist at my last check up which was about a month ago and she just seemed to…

How many Carbos can you have?
Hi, I have had two carbo treatments in the past 3 years( 1st 6 then additional 10). I asked my dr. when the taxol/avastin no longer works(its is at this time) what is next? He suggested the normal stuff which I have not done, and then I added can we do carbo again? He said I would have to wait 1 1/2 years since I have done…

I'm on my holiday chemo break
and loving it. I so deserve this break for I've been chemoing since last January. I made my sugar cookie cut outs and shopped till I dropped for silly toys (THAT doesn't take long!) Kindness Advice for when Mom is so discourged
Well Mom is depressed and very fatigued...she's not sure if its the cancer or the chemo. She started PARPs one month ago, and she has been fatigued ever since. She fell last week, didn't break any bones, but bruised her knee badly and has a bruise under her eye, on her cheek. She is hobbling, and miserable I would say. She…

Mom's oncologist called today and is frantically trying to get Mom in a clinical trial asap. She feels her current chemo is…

So today marks a week since my moms first chemo treatment. Next one isn't scheduled until new years eve (this is where I'm thankful alcohol doesn't affect chemo lol) and that will start the day one and day eight intervals. I had to leave before her dr mentioned what her CA125 is so when I talk to her today I'm hoping she…

Gemzar working for me!!
After one treatment with Gemzar, my CA-125 went from 720 to 437. Yipee!! And all my blood work is normal. My main side effect has been constipation, with just a teeny bit of nausea. I'm stoked! I want to see single digits this time!
