Hello, I am a new member, and I hope somebody will answer. I had around of radiation 3 years ago for breast cancer. Last July I was diagnosticated with ovarian cancer. My Dear Mother, Kathie Lyle
I wanted to let you all know that my mother passed away yesterday. She fought so hard for 10 months and finally her body just had enough. Amazingly, she had her strong personality and brilliant mind right up until the end. I know she found such comfort in your words of support and your understanding of her situation and my…

Decision
As the waiting game continues (my surgeon/oncologist in Dallas is on vacation this week) my oncologist thinks that it is best to go ahead and do a dose of docel on Friday since it has been four weeks since I have had a treatment just to be on the safe side of the CT. I agreed simply because I tolerate chemo so well so far.…

Update
I just got home this morning and things went well with my first IV/IP treatment. I tolerated it well, although the bloating everywhere was not what I expected. Thought it would just be my abdomen. But they kept assuring me it was normal if I thought of how many fluids I had received I would realize that. It will take a few…

CT scan report
The CT scan showed that the three liver tumors are still there and larger than last June in spite of the radio frequency ablation and chemo. My low dose chemo was cancelled and obviously the taxol and carboplatin did not work on the liver. (Maybe not ovarian there?) I will probably be given a different chemical that I have…

What does anyone know about the CA125
My CA125 came back normal - my dr didn't tell me the actual number. He just said it was perfectly normal. I still can't have the "mass" removed though because of the recent colon resection I just had. The want to wait and let me heal some more before we do anything. Can't I still have cancer even though the CA125 is…

Asking for good thoughts ...
Hi everyone. I am waiting to go and get blood work drawn this morning and am praying that my numbers are good this week. They canceled my IV/IP treatment last Wed because my white count and platelets were too low. Not only am I frustrated I just feel as if I'm a complete failure sometimes at this whole chemo thing. Not one…

Anxiety Medicines
Unfortunately the stress leading up to and following treatment has had devastating emotional effects on my wife Linda. She is now taking the regular chemo/anti-nausea drugs and Lorazepam for combination nausea/anxiety. The AD drugs keep her afloat. There is an anti-depressant prescribed that she's started but is nervous…

Update
Hi Everyone, I have been away for a few weeks and on my return I have been advised that I do not meet the criteria for the Amgen Clinical Trials because I have received more than 3 previous regimens of anti-cancer chemo. Accordingly I hope to commence doxil next week in the hope it can reduce my ca125 sufficiently to be…

Dr. report
My gyn/onc said that the physical exam and CA-125 of 6 indicates that I am disease free for now. I will have a CT scan on Friday to see if that concurs. I had the choice of stopping all chemo or taking a 12 month course of a low dose of Taxol one time a month. He said there was still controversy on this but the one study…

Cisplatin experience: side effects?
Curious if anyone can share experiences with Cisplatin which is what our doctor initially mentioned as the chemo drug of choice. We may have a consultation with the chemo doc tomorrow (Wednesday October 3)

New Here
I was posting on the colon cancer site this summer - I never thought I'd find myself here. I went in for colon surgery after a colonoscopy found a polyp with severe dysplasia. The polyp was flat so it was recommended I have the area of the colon as well as lymph nodes removed. The surgery was a success and the cancer had…

IV/IP treatments
I am to start my IV/IP treatments on October 10th - this will be my first attempt at the IP. I will be getting Taxotere in my chest port and Cisplatin in the abdomen. I was wondering if any of you have gone through this and what I can expect. Also, if you have any suggestions for once you are done with the treatment - i.e.…

Very Rare Cell Type
I have tried this before with no response, but we have a lot of new people out there. I have Malignant Mixed Ovarian Tumer of the Ovary, stage IIIB. It is generally more progressive but I had good response to 8 treatments of carboplatin/taxol in 2005. Now I am going through my first recurrance. Another rarity, It has come…

Confirmed recurrence
The gynecological oncologist did surgery on my wife Linda this morning and found a recurrence of ovarian cancer. His description of the cancer is that it is "plaqued" on the lower abdominal wall but is not manifested anywhere in the upper abdominal or chest cavity, nor on the organs. So like all cancer news, both bad and…

Flu Shot or Not?
Hi all. I'm wondering what your Dr's have told you about getting a flu shot while undergoing chemo. I've had my regular general Dr. tell me not to have one while on chemo but I haven't actually asked my Oncologist about it. Does anybody have any advice on this with flu season approaching? It seems to me that it wouldn't be…

Abdominal swelling management
I'll try to be briefer on my posts...With a week to go before exploratory surgery, my wife's stomach is very bloated and her back hurts. No sign of cancer cells in the fluid they tested (twice) though. But how do you handle this increased swelling and back pain. Any advice?

new to the site
Hi. I wanted to introduce myself. I've been "watching" this wonderful support site for the past 2 months. I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage IIIC 2 months ago today, have had surgery, my ports implanted and have went thru 1 round of chemo - my second round is tomorrow. I was originally to have Taxol/Cisplatin thru…

Neuropathy
Well, I tried the vitamin B-6, and it has helped the cramps in my toes. I still have the numbness, and that affects my balance which is especially bad in the mornings. Thanks to all who suggested the B-6.

Sorry I haven't Posted Lately
Hi all. Sorry I've been away from this site for a while. I've been reading everthing, just haven't written anything. That's just kind of how I am. I like to listen but not speak much. But I thought I'd update you on my situation. I was on a chemo break for quite a while after trying Hexalen. (Bad for me). Now I'm currently…

2nd treatment accomplished
They did decide to go with the Taxotere & Carboplatin today - then my doctor came in this morning to do my physical and asked if I'd like to try the IP Cisplatin this time around. I was so shocked! We decided to wait until the October 10th treatment and try to do at least 3 IV/IP treatments of the remaining 4 I have to go.…

post-chemo
I have recently finished iv/ip chemo and now have move to the midwest and looking for a gyne/oncologist. I am having a hard time finding one within 3 hrs. of my home. I did finally find one and then found out he no longer takes care of the oncology part. He is in a sm. clinic and they do not do the chemo there. So, even…

My mom is now home!
This is Rebekah, Kathie's daughter, once again. I am so excited to update you and let you know that my mom went home today! It's been almost four weeks since we first took her to the hospital and given the odds she has had against her, to have her at home now is a true miracle and blessing. I live in Denver but I just…

Allergic reaction
I had a mild reaction for a few hours but it was stopped with the prednisone pak. That also seems to make my chemo go more smoothly also. Had good appetite and no nausea at all thru the week. Thanks ladies, for your support.

Recurrance Strategies
My wife had low CA125 counts for a year and they suddenly shot up this month. This is one year+ 2 months after completion of a rigorous taxol/carbo (with some late reaction) chemo treatment and intraperitoneal therapy. She still feels great with no symptoms but is absolutely freaked and nearly inconsolable. She was so…

allergic reaction
My platelets finally came up and I had my chemo Wed. Just as I was about three forths of the way through the carbo I started itching and broke out in hives. They had to give me a substitute for benadryl and steroids for the reaction. It was very miserable. I am now waiting to see if I am elligable fow a new and only study…

Allergic reaction
I saw my oncologist today and was told we may have to drop either taxol or carbo after my next dose on Thursday because I had a mild rash for a week last dose. He said the reactions usually get worse and it could be either of the chemicals. I will be more heavily pre treated for allergic reaction this time and we'll see…
