Loved One Fatigue?
Hi everyone. I hope this finds you well. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer in November 2022 at the age of 40. They also found a rather large tumor in my sigmoid that wound up demanding emergency surgery. 6 weeks of radiation/chemo, 3 major surgeries, and 8 rounds of chemo later I'm on the cusp of potentially…

Has anyone had the campto/5FU regimine?
Supposed to start treatment on Wednesday but haven't gotten call to have port placed yet. I had oxaliplatin/capecitbine in 2021 and had major nerve damage along with a lot of bad g/i issues. I'm pretty worried about starting this new protocal and was wondering who else has had this and how did it go for you?

Hello everyone! I just found this website today, and decided to join for my mom who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer back in December of 2021. I have read a few posts and really appreciate everyone's openness and vulnerability of discussing their diagnoses and their stories. The story itself is quite wild. My mom…

Hello My girlfriend's mother was diagnosed with stage two colon cancer back about five months ago. Since then it has spread to stage three and chemotherapy is likely needed. Her mom is 62 and my girlfriend has become deeply affected and worried that she won't be able to survive through the treatment. She has lost hope and…

What effect does a dextrose IV solution have on a pre-chemo fasted state?
I'm fasting to help with my chemo therapy (XELOX/CAPOX). My chemo drug is oxaliplatin, which is delivered in a dextrose (glucose) solution. What effect does intravenous delivery of glucose have on my fasted cellular state (eg. autophagy, etc.), as opposed to an oral intake of glucose? Does it wreck it just the same, or…

Choosing Hospice
As some of you know I wave worked hospice for many years and even owned one. I'm hearing many telling people not to give up the fight. Dont give up hope. This is what I have told many people over the years to help them to understand what hospice is. People who choose hospice are not giving up hope, they are in fact…

And Jumping Into Another Study ... 7 Years To The Day I Got The Call
Last week I was told the study I was in was not working. Two days ago I spoke with my oncologist and we decided to go go back to FOLFOX to start, while keeping Stivarga in the wings if needed. Appointment scheduled for FOLFOX, but was told they would double check on studies. Got an email later on that a study was open.…

Emergency couples therapist for cancer patients?
Hi all, stage 3/35f and going through fertility treatment asap. I would desperately like to talk with a couples therapist, my partner is struggling with the idea of freezing embryos. Is this resource available anywhere!?! We have to decide very soon and it’s so overwhelming on top of all the other cancer stuff.

Stage 3C Cleanup Chemo
Hi all! I'm a 62 year old woman who was diagnosed with rectal cancer a year ago January 2023. After an MRI, CT scan, and Pet scan, they staged me at 3c having a 6cm size tumor, which looked like 4 lymph nodes involved. Well from there I started on 8 infusions of chemo (oxaliplatin and 48 hour 5fu 'grenade') and then 28…

Recently diagnosed
Hi there. I was diagnosed with colon cancer approximately one week ago. My mom cried. My sister cried. I felt numb. Over this very short period, I’ve felt as though I’m having an out-of-body experience. It’s as if I’m watching a movie of someone else’s life. At times, I’ve thought to myself, “I have cancer. OK. No big…

I am the caregiver for my husband(colorectal cancer Mets to the liver). He is on 5FU and the side effects are horrible. Severe abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. APR Surgery
Had rectal cancer and underwent chemo, radiation, surgery (anal resection with ileostomy) and then ileostomy reversal. Cancer came back within a year and tried brachytherapy internal radiation, but unfortunately the cancer grew back on the areas not treated by brachytherapy. At this point all doctors unequivocally suggest…

Relief from pain in the butt
I am caring for my husband who recently was pinned with stage 3 anul cancer. Haven't started chemo\rad yet and he already has a sore butt. One thing that has helped is a lidocaine hemorrhoid gel. I also picked up the Prep H lidocaine spray but haven't tried it yet. Pretty sure that sitz baths will be helpful? Any advice?…

What to wear post-surgery
I am a female who expects to have a Right Hemicolectomy soon. It's possible the surgeon may have to convert from laparoscopic to an open incision because I previously had a total hysterectomy, also by open incision, and pelvic radiation, all of which may have altered my "innards" enough that the surgeon needs the open…

Happy 2024 to all of you!
I know that people are often scared to approach Cancer patients, around times of joy and celebration. What do you say? Do you wish them a "Happy New Year?" Aren't they in for the ride of their life, literally, and isn't it going to be all pain and sorrow? As a survivor, who has 'been there and done that', I was glad when…

15 Years Later
Hello Everyone: For those of you who don't know me I was diagnosed 15 years today, the day before Thanksgiving. I had liver mets and ovary mets and two colon surgeries. With a total of 4 surgeries including HIPEC and a year and half of chemo in a five year time period. My youngest who…

Stage 1 with some risky attributes
Hi gang after experiencing symptoms and having a colonoscopy at 51 , I discovered that I had one polyp in the sigmoid colon which was too large for the GI doc to remove. After an amazingly easy resection a month ago, I recently saw an oncologist. She indicated that even though I am stage one, I have at least one risky…

Thank you Laz & Helen
Not too long ago one of you started a thread or two about living with a colostomy bag. It was both funny and informative, and wonderful to be able to talk about the issues. Laz mentioned that he cleans himself out so he only has to deal with things every 4 days. That got me thinking since I was heading out for two weeks of…

What specialist is in charge?
Hello all, I am a migrant from the Uterine Cancer board. Following a screening colonoscopy I was found to have an invasive moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in my ascending colon. It is now 12:08. As I begin my 54th year
I am reminded that I am grateful to be here. That there is a group of people who I miss dearly who once wrote their weekend plans every Friday on this very web page. A group of people who just wanted to keep living. I am now 11 years cancer free. I cried on this very web page at 42 years old, scared, confused and not able…
