I am the caregiver for my husband(colorectal cancer Mets to the liver). He is on 5FU and the side effects are horrible. Severe abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. We have reached out to his oncologist but only get, “it’s the chemo”, “go to the ER”. We have been to the ER 3 times in 3 weeks. He has lost over 30 lbs in…

APR Surgery
Had rectal cancer and underwent chemo, radiation, surgery (anal resection with ileostomy) and then ileostomy reversal. Cancer came back within a year and tried brachytherapy internal radiation, but unfortunately the cancer grew back on the areas not treated by brachytherapy. At this point all doctors unequivocally suggest…

Relief from pain in the butt
I am caring for my husband who recently was pinned with stage 3 anul cancer. Haven't started chemo\rad yet and he already has a sore butt. One thing that has helped is a lidocaine hemorrhoid gel. I also picked up the Prep H lidocaine spray but haven't tried it yet. Pretty sure that sitz baths will be helpful? Any advice?…

What to wear post-surgery
I am a female who expects to have a Right Hemicolectomy soon. It's possible the surgeon may have to convert from laparoscopic to an open incision because I previously had a total hysterectomy, also by open incision, and pelvic radiation, all of which may have altered my "innards" enough that the surgeon needs the open…

Happy 2024 to all of you!
I know that people are often scared to approach Cancer patients, around times of joy and celebration. What do you say? Do you wish them a "Happy New Year?" Aren't they in for the ride of their life, literally, and isn't it going to be all pain and sorrow? As a survivor, who has 'been there and done that', I was glad when…

15 Years Later
Hello Everyone: For those of you who don't know me I was diagnosed 15 years today, the day before Thanksgiving. I was having bleeding and the doctor thought it was hemorrhoids, and since I was 50, the doctor thought I better have my first colonoscopy. Well, it turned out I had a rectal tumor about the size of a nickle. I…

Old Timer check in...
It's been a long time so I am poking my head in to say stage IV survival is possible. I was diagnosed with colon cancer 15 years ago at the age of 39. I had liver mets and ovary mets and two colon surgeries. With a total of 4 surgeries including HIPEC and a year and half of chemo in a five year time period. My youngest who…

Sense of urgency?
My brother was just diagnosed via CT scan on 12/12 With colon cancer with extensive liver Mets and possible lung. He plans to go to Mayo in Rochester, MN for care but they won’t schedule appointment until they receive pathology report. Local hospital rescheduled CT guided liver biopsy from 12/26 to 1/15. That would mean a…

Remission Blues?
My husband was diagnosed with Stage 3B colon cancer in May. He’s 47 years old and father of two kids under 5. It had spread to two lymphnodes. Stage 1 with some risky attributes
Hi gang after experiencing symptoms and having a colonoscopy at 51 , I discovered that I had one polyp in the sigmoid colon which was too large for the GI doc to remove. After an amazingly easy resection a month ago, I recently saw an oncologist. She indicated that even though I am stage one, I have at least one risky…

Thank you Laz & Helen
Not too long ago one of you started a thread or two about living with a colostomy bag. It was both funny and informative, and wonderful to be able to talk about the issues. Laz mentioned that he cleans himself out so he only has to deal with things every 4 days. That got me thinking since I was heading out for two weeks of…

What specialist is in charge?
Hello all, I am a migrant from the Uterine Cancer board. Following a screening colonoscopy I was found to have an invasive moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in my ascending colon. It is a new primary cancer, not a metastatis of UC. I will be having further diagnostic imaging done soon, and I know that surgery is…

Ron50?
Hi all, I haven't been on in quite a while. I'm at a point where my emotions run very high coming on the board. I had to stop taking anti anxieties, they were ruining my brain. That meant avoiding triggers. I wouldn't say what I am now is "back to normal" but I don't think about cancer night and day like I used to. I've…

another anniversary
G'day all, been a while since I have been on. This month I finish year 22 ex stage 3c colon cancer, still cancer free. The past year has not been fun. CEAs
I know everyone is different, but as I read previous posts (I was looking up liver mets), I see an occassional mention of a CEA in the low double digits and that was considered a problem. I would rejoice to have a CEA that low. Is my doctor not telling me something? What kind of CEA's has anyone else had.

Bowel frequency after reversal
My husband had stage three colorectal cancer. He had a resection and a temporary colostomy bag. He has since had his bag reversed but, ever since then he has been dealing with frequent bowl movements. He will need to use the bathroom up to 15 times a day and each time he will pass just a small amount of stool. Has anyone…

A new battle
Hi everyone! We got my dads CT results from his oncologist Friday and he’s all clear on his colon cancer which would put him 2 years NED. The only thing is they found a 6mm nodule on his bladder. His doctor referred him to urology for a cystoscopy so now I have to hope and pray this isn’t a new cancer that wants to invade…

I want to die
I’m sorry this is my first time. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last year. I was told to do chemo every 2 weeks until it stopped working but after a year I couldn’t take it and have recently stopped chemo. I made that decision but 3 weeks ago I tried to overdose on painkillers and I don’t know how to get back to…
