Didn't have to make the decision....
My doctor made it for me. Today I had my appointment with him. I was scheduled for chemo, Herceptin, Decadron and Xgeva. I had my vitals done, was accessed, my nurse started the Herceptin. Then I went in the examining room to wait for the doctor. He came in and asked me how the week went. I told him I had the low-grade…

Lattissimus Dorsi Surgery
I would like to hear about anyone's experiences with this surgery. I had reconstruction immediately after surgery, but ultimately both implants had to be removed. On my right side, I developed a staph infection, and still have an open wound, even though the implant was removed back in May. Being on chemo from the get go…

State Laws Relating to Breast Cancer
I came across this informative file all about state laws relating to breast cancer and thought it might be useful or at least an interesting read! Oh and it's authored by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) =) However, it is a pdf file: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/breast/pdf/BCLaws.pdf Apparently this is as updated as the…

Breast cancer...or any illness...and finances
One thing I'm very grateful for about living in Australia...one of a billion reasons I'm grateful for being Australian :-) Is...everything medical here is.. F R E E ... if you're a pensioner. If you don't work and live on a Government pension, or are a senior, like I am, you can choose to have private health cover, or to…

How long do bc survivors stay on this site and why do they stay on past their treatment?
I thought it would be interesting to see some of the answers to that question, or, maybe it won't be. LOL I see bc survivors going thru treatment now, some are just starting, some like me have just finished rads, and, some have been out of treatment for years. I just wondered what everyone sees here in their own words.…

My Sign-Warning, Long Post
Last week, the day or two before my mastectomy I have to be honest and say, I was a wreck. Not only did I find out the cancer had once again spread--this time recurrence in my same breast, but I was faced with a mastectomy. Here's what happened: We get a little local newspaper here called the Ahwatukee Foothills News about…

Passing along a tip to help with neuropathy
Just wanted to pass along another tip from my wonderful Oncologist about a supplement that you can buy over the counter to help with neuropathy: Alpha Lipoic Acid 600-1200 mg/daily. My grocery store had it, it is a new product for them. She said there has been a study and it helped, but she said the effects won't show…

Ayse- Thanks for the advice about coconut water!
Yesterday I asked the Oncologist if I could stop the Neulasta shot after chemo because paired with the side effects from Taxotere I was getting kicked in the seat of my pants. She said that after she looked at the blood work she would determine if I could either stop the shot or get a half dose. After looking at the blood…

Can't afford Le sleeves
Since Medicare doesn't pay for LE sleeves, I can't afford the two that my LE therapist ordered. Other than asking for patient assistance from my medical clinic, is there any other organization that will help pay for it? If I can't get help, I can't buy the sleeves. If anyone is interested, there is a webpage lobbying your…

no chemo yesterday after all
I was supposed to start chemo again yesterday, but...I woke up feeling like crap. (I forgot my evening dose of decadron the night before. I won't be doing that again till it's time to wean off that dose!) The rads fatigue is kicking my butt, and my forehead and scalp are patchy red/pink. Since my CT scan was stable (that…

Here we go again - with added stress
First let me say that I'm having a really bad day today. Usually, I can cope with things better and maintain a positive attitude. Just don't feel like it today.
