HIPEC Surgery and/or OVAX Trial
Hi. I'm going to have the HIPEC surgery in two weeks, which will be followed up by an ovarian vaccine trial called OVAX. Anyone out there heard of someone having either one? Thanks, Julie

Question for Julie (Surviving and Thriving) re; HIPEC surg last April
Hi Julie, I happened to read one of your posts from last april in which you said you were going to get the HIPEC treatment in mid April. I was thinking of looking into that also. Did you get the treatment? Did it work, and were you able to tolerate it? I'd be very interested to know anything about this treatment. Thanks.

Resveratrol (Japanese knotweed)
I think a few of the board members have spoken of taking resveratrol. There seems to be conflicting information about the phytoestrogen component of the stuff. One source (www.livestrong.com) seems to think that it is bad for estrogen-sensitive cancers while another reports that it may be helpful. Here's a link to the…

Sensitive Subject
I had my debulking staging surgery on the 19th of April, have had two treatments, first was taxol/carboplatin, second was taxotere/carbo. I am still experiencing a watery orange/pink vaginal discharge. Anyone else have this? I have searched the topic in several ovcn web sights with no results. Thanks ladies, love having…

Sister is out of surgery
My sister had her hysterectomy and debulking today. The surgeon said he removed all the cancer he could see and feel. He also had to re-sect some of her intestine and ended up removing about a foot of it. He also removed her appendix, omentum and sucked out a bunch of small tumors around her diaphragm etc. He said ovarian…

New Treatment Schedule Alimta/Carbo
It’s been quite some time since I’ve been here but thought I would put this out there since I don’t see a lot about this combination for OVCA but it is a popular drug for lung cancer. Here is a quick summary. I was dx on 8/2006 and only had 1 short remission for a few months 1 year after the initial surgery and chemo. I’ve…

PPC board
Hi everyone I have emailed CSN with a request for them to develop a PPC board. Whilst I have enjoyed talking to all of the ladies on this Ovarian Cancer board, I would like a specific PPC board set up as there are differences between the 2 cancers. So this is just to alert anyone who may be interested in lobbying CSN to…

Genetic tesing ?
My oncologist wants me to be genetically tested. Since there is no family history he doesn't believe it's genetic. My sister's gynecologist says that it's important for me to be genetically tested. I also have a 20 yr. old daughter. My sister is almost 42. My question is this, how is this paid for? Do insurance companies…

Cancer and Diet
When one researches this on the internet, boy do you get a lot of different answers. I asked my oncologist about it, he said just eat well balanced meals. He told me to not be extreme. He said I would need calories to deal with the chemo. I'm just hoping the chemo doesn't destroy my appetite :) One site said avoid fruit…

Tesetaxel: Oral taxane chemo
This drug is still in clinical trials but it was fast-track approved for gastric cancer: Tesetaxel is a novel oral semi-synthetic taxane. The drug stabilises microtubules, inducing potent cytotoxicity in a wide range of tumour cell types. Certain taxanes have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of breast (BC), lung,…

Short term memory loss
It has now been 3 months since my last chemo (That just sounds like an introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous!!) and I am finding I have acute short term memory problems. It can be quite embarassing as I am a teacher and I cannot remember my students' names. I can also be having a conversation with someone and I find I am…

Love for Lena
My Mother is a 38 year old mother of 6 boys including myself. She was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer while in the hospital giving birth to my youngest brother, now 2 years old. She is a strong woman, and has put up one heck of a fight considering the extremity of her cancer. The cancer has spread to her back as well…

Another Taken
My mom is now gone and lost her battle with this horrible cancer. She went very peacefully and was not suffering or gasping for air while dieing. If I had it to do all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat. Even though it only took a few minutes for her to go home, I could not bring myself to pull that vent off of my…

BRCA 1 / BRCA
Hi can anyone inform me how much is the cost for this study in the USA (in a reliable laboratory). I'm seriously thinking on taking it but in Mexico is costs around 4,500 USD and my insurance won`t pay it. So maybe I might take it is USA. Thanks. Liz

Peritoneal message board
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee we now have a Peritoneal messaging board :) It is lovely to have this messaging board so that all the people with either PPC or secondary Peritoneal Cancer can go to for specific help, support and advice. I understand that it will run on a trial basis so the administrators can gauge how popular it is…

Wishing for...a LazyBoy
Was away from my office for one week due to chemo, and returned on Wednesday. Been cheerfully working, busy and productive, but just now "hit the wall" and took a discussion board break. And now, I will plop on my office floor and take a short siesta, using a roll of paper towels for a pillow. Wishing I had a comfy…

CA 125 way up :(
Hello Ladies, Mom is on her second/third line treatment. She did 7 rounds of carboplatin and 13/15 weeks of a clinical trial. April 21st she started Doxil. June 16th she had her third infusion. Today Mom had a CT scan which of course we don't know the results of but we suspect is not working. When Mom started this hellish…

My first chemo day went great!
The nurses were unbelievable! Each one was so pleasant and kind. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. I took carbo/taxol. I arrived a little after 9:00. I got back home about 5:00. I saw the dr. following my chemo. I had my pet scan results from last week. Two lymph nodes in my lower back were cancerous. However, he said he…

paris11...
I just saw your reply about NWestern. My mom had an opinion early on with Dr. Shenk (SP?) at Northwestern. He was fantastic. She couldn't be treated there because of her insurance at the time. She goes to Rush and sees Dr. Rotmensch. He is known to be one of the best (perhaps THE best in the area). I know someone who lived…

Tomorrow is my first day of chemo. Getting REALLY nervous now...
I had my port put in this morning. Kinda sore but doing fine from that. I just keep letting my mine go places it has no business going, like "what if the chemo doesn't work... " I guess that's normal. Just wish I could relax about things. Thanks to all of you. This board is such a blessing.

Counting the ways we count the days
From what point do/did you start counting your remission? My doctor wrote in his notes at my 4th month of chemo that I had "no evidence of disease." Presumably because my CA125 was normal. By that reckoning, I am 18 months NED. BUT....I started maintenance chemo immediately after completing my first line treatment. And…

Mom in ICU
My mom is in the MICU. She has had pnemonia, fluid on the lungs, and minor heart attack. I guess they re-staged her at Stage 3, but she was staged at 4 to begin with. Doctors do not see any hope. I can put a feeding tube and breathing tube in mom. The doctors do not think she can ever take chemo again. Her lungs are weak I…

CA-125 Screening Over Time: Early Detection Hope
This story from Time, features a study volunteer named Liz Stegall. "The most widely used test to detect these tumors is a blood test known as CA125, which picks up proteins that are common to ovarian growths. But the blood levels of these proteins also rise in women with more benign conditions, including pregnancy,…
