How long does it take to feel better post chemo?
I know everyone is different but thought you ladies could give me a little advice. I'm due for my 6th Carbo/Taxol treatment Aug 3 and I know it will take a while "to feel better" plus I have a TPN line that I want to try and ween myself off so that I can travel a little without the logistical nightmare of dragging TPN bags…

No more chemo?
My Mom has been chemo since June 22nd 2010. She had 7 rounds of carbo/taxol three weeks apart, 13 rounds weekly of a clinical trial and now she has had four treatments of doxil three weeks apart. Debulking surgery Sept 2010 was unsuccessful. The oncologist at the time said 12-18 months. Her last chemo mom was very upset.…

2nd Round Chemo Complete / Remission/ Phase II Vaccine Trial ...
Sorry for this long post but it's been a looong time since I've posted at all. I've kept up pretty much with the joys, sorrows, frustrations and HOPE of the Teal Warriors via reading the board late at night. Lots of tears for loss, tears for daughters, sons and husbands who have lost wives and moms (my heart breaks for my…

To make us smile, out of the mouth of babes...
Last night I had my almost 10 yr. old niece help me make a breakfast casserole for this morning. I told her that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. My 20 yr. old daughter came into the kitchen. My niece, Kaylee said, "I'm trying to win a man's heart Leah." Later on last night she was trying to talk my…

Nervous about 1st Chemo
I was diagnosed with Stage 1A high grade ovarian cancer on 6/16/11. I have my first chemo (taxol/carbo) next week 7/20/11. I'm starting to get nervous because even though my oncologist explained so much to me, it's very scary for me. For that reason, what tips, advice, encouragement can you ladies give me. I've 'lurked'…

Incidental finding
I had an MRI of my hips due to pain when walking or sitting and they found an ovarian tumor incidentally. I think I am lucky because it was only 5 x 3 cm. I have surgery the second week in August, robotic surgery by a gyn-oncologist. He thinks the tumor is encapsulated and is very optomistic. Here is the thing. I have…

Just got back from having my head buzzed.
I sat there and cried. Have cried since I've been home. It began coming out yesterday. (my first treatment was June 28.) I didn't want to deal with the mess. I know it's "just hair." But to me, this just adds "insult to injury." It feels like pouring salt into an open sound. Guess I'll get used to it, but still..... The…

? about hot flashes
What do you ladies take or do for hot flashes? Mine are worse during the night. I wake up with my legs sweating really bad. Does anyone else have their legs sweat? A chemo nurse told me a couple of weeks ago that she sweats all over. If I have one during the day, it's typically my face and neck. Of course, I'm in MS and…

If Staging can be upgraded, why can't it also be downgraded?
So, I had my appointment with the Chief of Neurosurgery at University Hospital today about Gamma Knife. (Have I mentioned how fortunate I have been to consistently have the best of the best in terms of surgeons, oncologists, radiation therapy and health care in general?) At any rate, during the meeting, I had the…

For OVCA survivors: Which ovary had cancer?
I don't know why I even care about this but I would appreciate hearing from OVCA survivors whether the cancer was one-sided or worse on one side than the other. Mine was left ovary & it seems like I notice the left side seems to predominate when women tell their stories. Or maybe I just notice it when someone says they had…

Smoothie recipes?
This recipe isn't completely original with me, but I wanted to share it. I have been putting frozen mixed berries, milk (one day I used chocolate flavored silk milk). I also add a hand full of spinach. You can not taste the spinach. It's a great way to get a leafy green veggie in. I like spinach in a salad, but we can't…

I'm a Newbie!
Hi Everyone! I have been a lurker on this site for a number of months now but have now decided to join. My cancer journey began in May of 2010 at age 65 when I had a complete debulking and hysterectomy for a fairly large mass which had grown from my left ovary and my bladder and liver. My gyn-oncologist was able to remove…

A sad day for me
Today is one I have dreaded for so long. My beloved cat of sixteen years, Fifty-fifty had to be put down. He has been my constant companion for many years and was by my side during my nine months of treatment. When I was still working, I used to wish he would still be around when I retired. I got my wish for a while. I…
