My first chemo day went great!
The nurses were unbelievable! Each one was so pleasant and kind. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. I took carbo/taxol. I arrived a little after 9:00. I got back home about 5:00. I saw the dr. following my chemo. I had my pet scan results from last week. Two lymph nodes in my lower back were cancerous. However, he said he…

paris11...
I just saw your reply about NWestern. My mom had an opinion early on with Dr. Shenk (SP?) at Northwestern. He was fantastic. She couldn't be treated there because of her insurance at the time. She goes to Rush and sees Dr. Rotmensch. He is known to be one of the best (perhaps THE best in the area). I know someone who lived…

Tomorrow is my first day of chemo. Getting REALLY nervous now...
I had my port put in this morning. Kinda sore but doing fine from that. I just keep letting my mine go places it has no business going, like "what if the chemo doesn't work... " I guess that's normal. Just wish I could relax about things. Thanks to all of you. This board is such a blessing.

Counting the ways we count the days
From what point do/did you start counting your remission? My doctor wrote in his notes at my 4th month of chemo that I had "no evidence of disease." Presumably because my CA125 was normal. By that reckoning, I am 18 months NED. BUT....I started maintenance chemo immediately after completing my first line treatment. And…

my 2nd round of chemo of carbo/taxol. Had 18 weeks of treatment, taxol weekly and carbo with taxol every 3 weeks. I did ok through treatment except my last 3 treatments of carbo I had a allergic reaction, so my last carbo was given in the hospital to give to me slowly, it took about 10 hours. My CT Scan showed no sign of…

Mom in ICU
My mom is in the MICU. She has had pnemonia, fluid on the lungs, and minor heart attack. I guess they re-staged her at Stage 3, but she was staged at 4 to begin with. Doctors do not see any hope. I can put a feeding tube and breathing tube in mom. The doctors do not think she can ever take chemo again. Her lungs are weak I…

CA-125 Screening Over Time: Early Detection Hope
This story from Time, features a study volunteer named Liz Stegall. "The most widely used test to detect these tumors is a blood test known as CA125, which picks up proteins that are common to ovarian growths. But the blood levels of these proteins also rise in women with more benign conditions, including pregnancy,…

Positive results from my last chemo
Just had my final check up after my 6 cycles of carbo/taxol and I feel so relieved. I was so nervous waiting in the doctors waiting room :( My CA125 has halved (211 - 122) and eventhough it is still quite high my doctor is really pleased as it started off at 1,288. My Ct scan is clear so they are happy to leave me alone…

Git it done and over with
Ok, so the hair in the unmentionable places started going first. Last night, I noticed that the hair on my head was shedding way more than usual. I kind of lost it. I had a mini mental break down. I found a hair cuttery place that was open after 7 pm and off I went. My favorite gal was done for the night and I did not want…

Chemo and Advil side effects
It's been awhile since I've been on this website. You have been so helpful and reassuring to me that I now have a question that might sound silly. I have arthritis in my legs and at times the pain is terrible. My Dr. knows this so it really never entered my mind that taking cisplatin and cpt 11 may cause some leg pain. I…

Is this a symptom of menopause?
I had my surgery on May 18. I'm 48. I am hungry ALOT!! Is being this hungry a symptom of menopause? I know that a lot of women gain weight in menopause. Thankfully, so far so good, no hot flashes or mood swings. However, I realize those could follow later. I am on Zoloft (well generic) Anyway, I recently read (perhaps on…

Chemo Sensitivity Test
Dear Ladies, Since I will have second debulking surgery on 7/22 (it will be a HIPEC surgery), I have decided to send the cancer cell sample to the lab for chemo sensitivity test. I have been told by a friend who is a medical oncologist in Ohio about this testing. He refers his patient to the lab to do the test to narrow…

I never heard of this but I was talking to other cancer survivors from 5or6 years ago and they had buckets by their chairs during chemo tx. Hair falling out.....um..not on head..maybe crass of me but
Giggle....ok, I have been dreading the whole hair falling out aspect. I have my favorite hair dresser on notice that as soon as I notice it falling out, I am running over. I am having it chopped ultra short or shaving it off. I am not letting cancer or chemo have total control of it. Despite having that I am taking control…
