Partial Nephrectomy in the morning for 4.5 cm tumor on the bottom of right Kidney
I have been reading the comments about the surgery and the information is very good and I appreciate it. I was wondering wh7y my surgeon said I am not allowed to drive for three weeks? Is it something to do with driving or just riding? I wished I had asked him but I was processing the whole "you've got cancer info". Thanks

5 years ago today---wow, what a day!
Hello everybody! I've been on a little break for the past couple of months. I'm sure the events of this past year contributed to the need for a break. I just wanted to share that on this day in 2016, I was told by my nephrologist they found a lesion on the lower pole of my right kidney in scans he had ordered for my…

Open partial nephrectomy and working from home. Realistic time off?
For background, I posted this a few months ago: https://csn.cancer.org/node/323359 I had asked about time off after a full lap. However, my current doctor is now recommending an open partial, so he'll have better access to the part of the kidney that needs to be removed and closed up. I'm nervous to tell my new job (I did…

Is a radical nephrectomy worth it in stage 4?
My husband, now 44, was diagnosed with stage 4 RCC in May 2020. First symptom was pain in his leg due to a fast growing bone met. He had an 11cm tumor removed from his leg with titanium rod to replace his femur and total knee replacement. His primary kidney tumor was also around 11cm. He had several small tumors in his…

5 year scan
The results from my 5 year scan. No cancer. None. The doctor said that it was unusual for someone to have a tumor as big as mine (10 cm) and then have no more cancer. But, I am that guy. He said "you did it. You made it." Not gonna lie, I cried right then. No more scans, only an x ray next year. I do have a small kidney…

Question about open nephrectomy
My kidney cancer was discovered in Dec. 2019 and in March 2020 I had an open radical nephrectomy, removing my right kidney. The doctor started out by attempting a laparoscopic nephrectomy and the tumor was too close to the arteries and an artery was hit and they had to go ahead and do an open procedure. I woke up to having…

Another 5 year scanner
Hi Everyone, I never finished my last post when I was waiting to get my scans. This year was ultrasound and chest xray - all clear all clear. The doc gave me choice of continuing 12-month or 16-month checkup and scans at this point (we alternate CT and Ultrasound). I'm opting to keep the 12-month checkin as long as he (my…

New and anxious *UPDATE*
Hi...I'm 48 and a few days ago I had some pain all along my right side and ended up in the ER. After a CT and some other stuff the dr said I had a UTI and a soft tissue mass on my kidney. She didn't really go in depth for the radiology report and I had to wait two days to see my GP and have him read them and talk to me…

RE: Robotic Partial Nephrectomy
My name is Paul and so happy to run into this blog. I had the Robotic partial nephrectomy of my right kidney yesterday and I got discharged today. I was so lucky for it was caught during a CT scan as I was complaining of change in my bowel habits. The CT scan results showed negative results with my Abdomen, but cyst found…

Just a vent
My ultrasound, blood work, and urinalysis is coming up and I'm a wreck. I'm so anxious. Recently went to the hospital for a severe bladder infection, had an ultrasound of both kidneys and ER doctor didn't mention anything new about cysts. the words maybe slightly complicated are eating away at me right now.

Hypodense lesion on liver
Hi everyone, have a question, has anyone ever had a hypodense lesion found on their liver? I had my annual scan Tuesday and the doctor said it all looked like a perfectly normal CT scan except for a 1.4 cm lesion(approximately the size of a sweet pea)on my liver. The radiologist suggested a liver mri to confirm benignity,…

10 years cancer free! and pushing for continued observation in Pittsburgh
I haven't been here in quite some time - a couple of years. It is great to see old faces and I offer good will for those of you who are new. I was "accidentally" diagnosed with stage 1 RCC at 42 years old - it showed up on a CT for another issue. I had a hand-assisted radical nephrectomy and adrenalectomy on July 6, 2011.…

Any Hope for a Partial Nephrectomy?
Greetings, I am new on this forum and would be grateful for any guidance. I had a 3.1 cm tumor discovered on my right kidney during a CT scan for an unrelated issue. My surgeon informed me that he would attempt a partial nephrectomy to preserve right kidney function, however, there is a strong chance that it would not be…

New to Group and Panic Mode is Setting In
My partial open nephrectomy is scheduled for late next week and I’m starting to panic. I don't know if I'm more afraid of the cancer or the surgery! Two complex cysts identified on right kidney (upper pole and lower) during a CT scan prior to my hysterectomy for endometrial cancer in 2019. My urologist has been monitoring…

Adult Wilm's Tumur
I was diagnosed with a Wilm's tumor at 45 years old. I was told many times that this is very rare. Are there any other members that have been diagnosed with this as an adult?? Would like to hear from someone else that has been through the same experience. I have not been able to find out much information on this topic…

Surgery is Done!
Partial open nephrectomy was completed early May and today starts week 3 of recovery. I thought I was prepared for a big surgery but wow, I have never had such pain and discomfort in my life. Of course part of that was coming home with a stent and catheter for two weeks due to a urine leak. That was removed last week and…

Living with one kidney
On my daughters 12th birthday, I was diagnosed with a large mass in my left kidney that was diagnosed as stage 3 cancer and required a radical nephrectomy. I had noticed changes how my body was different in 2018, but was informed each scan I was cancer free. Good scan I was told. Had 2 choices,…
