Blood Tests during Active Surveillance
Hi everyone, My mother just had her 2 year ultrasound follow up. Her solid kidney lesion was 1.3 cm compared to 1.1 cm two years ago. She has significant flank pain every once in a while. Is this common with such a small lesion? She does have 3-4 other simple cysts across the two kidneys. All under 2 cm. She also is tired…

RCC in 2018, what is standard follow-up for you like?
Hello all, I was diagnosed with an aggressive RCC in Jan 2018. My kidney and 7,5cm tumor were removed 3 weeks later... and then they said: you are cancer-free. I have annual CT scans of my abdomen, an annual check-up with a nephrologist and dietician. My remaining kidney is at 41%. I also have bloodwork every 3 months. *…

Going for surgery soon
Going for surgery soon to remove my 1.5 cm tumor (incidentally detected, no veins or collecting system involement), robotic assisted partial. Is the robotic assisted partial really that bad? Seems a lot of people have well tolerated procedures. I'm middle aged F with no other co-morbidities and on no meds. I chose surgery…

RCC in the NBA
I don't know how many of the members here have seen this, but an NBA player named Caris LeVert was involved in a trade. As a requirement of the trade, a full physicall was performed that included an MRI. In that MRI, they discovered a mass on LeVert's left kidney. He is 26 years old. I didn't hear much more until…

Nodule on adrenal gland — metastasis vs scar tissue from Nephrectomy
The CT finding indicates indeterminate nodule in middle of adrenal gland with findings of small rcc metastisis vs scar tissue from nephrectomy last November. The nodule was only 14mm. My follow up CT with contrast is tomorrow. Has anyone else had scar tissue appear as nodule in the adrenal gland?

Kidney Cancer / Post Surgery
I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and had 50% of my left Kidney removed on Janaury 15, 2003. I find myself still scared and confused. Doc says they are 70% sure all cancer was removed and my survival rate was put at 70% as well. I would appreciate any comments about when I will start to feel like the survivor they say I…

7 years later, The big C returns.
This time with a mass in my left lung. Doctors have confirmed it as Renal Cell Carcinoma which suggests it is residue from the first bout from 2013. Mass is in a difficult to access location. Radiation will commence tomorrow. I used to live in the Chicago area. We now reside in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. So far, we…

Recurrence in Lung
Hi. I just found out today I have a new tumor in my lung. It's about 1" and located in the upper right part of my lung at the top. Somehow I had a feeling cancer would be back for me. I was a little surprised to have 6 years NED after the adrenalectomy. I'm feeling very emotional today. Sad. Depressed. Scared. I lost a…

partial nephrectomy vs. lap. cryoablation, what to choose?
Hello, my surgeon gave me the choice of doing a laparosopic cryoablation or a robotic partial nephrectomy to remove my kidney tumor. Any advice, personal experience or helpful information on what to choose is welcome. What has the least complications or quicker recovery and will preserve more of my kidney function? Thank…

And Happy New Year to all...
When I was Dx'd in 2006 with kidney cancer (it doesn't deserve to be capitalized), I was told that "unless something could be done", I had 5-7 months to live. That prognosis didn't agree with me, at all. So we pursued on, even after many tears and phone calls, and tests, and finally the initial surgery. Out came the R.…

timeline
This site was a tremendous help and the beginning of our journey. Everyone is different but when I was going through it I wanted examples of timelines. Here is ours: 12/4/2012 hubby had cancerous tumor removed from his kidney. 6/25/2014 Stage 4 advanced and aggressive. 6/25/2020 oncologist said treatment is no longer…

It is NED
Hi all, just want to share my 51st-month scan reports and so glad uncle NED visited again! Hope he keeps coming back each year! This time, I did Ultrasound, CXR and bone scan (because of the bone island). All came back as normal. Except it mentioned kidney stone is forming, but guess it is a lesser concern! Thank you…

Nerve pain after Thermal ablation
Hello gang. About 10 days ago I underwent a thermal abulation on my left kidney to remove a 2 cm tumor. As the recovery days went on, my nerve pain that runs from my left crotch area up toward my waist has gotten worse and worse. It feels like a tingling/bad sunburn on the surface of the skin, a sheet touching it or taking…

Starting Sutent today for adjuvant treatment after nephrectomy
Hello, My first post, but I have been reading threads excessively since my diagnosis October 6th. Very blessed that removing my kidney (9cm tumor) has apparently removed the cancer as scans are all clear 6 weeks after surgery. At Thanksgiving
We are still here. We are still "fighting" for normalcy...in many parts of our lives, ie. Covid 19, the Weather, Politics, Schools and Towns to open the way they used to be. But we are still here; maybe isolated, maybe sheltering in place, limiting our contact with the outside world, having meetings and appointments on…

Bone Island
Hi all, I had my CT Scan back in July, it's NED. But my doctor also mentioned there is a bone island on the pelvis bone. They believe it is just a bone island as it was there in 2016 on my first CT and the size hasn't changed at all. But they also offered me a bone scan if I would like to, and it is optional. I would like…

New here
I'm new here, so bare with me. I'm not super tech savvy. Last week I was in the hospital for a bowel obstruction. Had a cat scan with contrast done, and it found cysts on my kindeys. One I was aware of, and in the process of getting a referral to see a Nephrologist for. I was surprised when the surgeon had told me there…

Genetic testing question
Hi everybody...I haven't been on in quite awhile and I'm sorry for that. I am doing ok. Still NED almost 4 years out. My younger sister was just scheduled for a partial nephrectomy. She is in shock and processing all of this. She has a tumor 2.8 cm and another subcentimeter one that will be removed by robotic surgery. She…

A month after surgery
The pain for the first two weeks at home was the worst. The third week felt amazing and I felt like I was way ahead of schedule. The fourth week I hit a wall. I have mild-to-moderate pain, but I've lost my appetite entirely. I feel weak and depressed and I'm sleeping 14-15 hours per night. Despite a positive prognosis and…
