My mom has Ovarian with many other health problems
She's had ascetes (sp?). They've drained her abdomen twice. She's insulin dependent and she's in kidney failure. We went to a surgeon who said he didn't want to do surgery right now with the ascetis, and wanted her to have two rounds of chemo first. I'm so concerned that her kidneys won't hold up through chemo and he made…

My mom has had numerous rounds of chemo and now it's time for surgery
My mom was diagnosed with stage III/IV ovarian cancer on May 4th of this year. She has had 5 or 6 rounds of chemo, and despite losing her hair she has reacted very well. Her CA number has dropped significantly since the beginning. She goes in for a cat scan tomorrow and then they will plan surgery to remove the rest of the…

Need help with this
Hello, I wrote in a few weeks ago when ovarian cancer was suspected. I had surgery on the 10th and diagnosed with Stage IV. The surgery had to stop short of planned hysterectomy etc. due to blocked intestine and too much in abdomen and omentum. I have a colostomy. I will begin chemo paclitaxel and carboplatin on Oct. 12th…

vague symptoms.. have we discussed how our OVCA was discovered?
Hi loves... They talk about awareness with OVCA and the vague symptoms that this disease can present with. I thought I knew my body well and would never have known that anything was amiss if I hadn't developed a hernia. How do we help other women obtain early detection? (((HUGS))) Maria

Oh my gosh .... My mom is awake in the ICU!
I would never had expected it, but despite all that is going on she made amazing progress over the last 12 hours or so. She is following commands, trying to talk and make her hands work. I'm just astounded that she has woken up after 5 long weeks of being unconscious. Im driving up tomorrow morning to Buffalo and should…

Good news on such a sad day
Dear Friends, Ive been chemoing since Jan. carbo/taxol x4, Doxil x4, now Gemzar/carbo and gemzar the second week. Except for a 10 point drop in Feb., I stayed even at a CA-125 of 110. Yesterday, I had the first good news.... my CA-125's dropped to 72.6! I choose to believe that wonderful gift came from our sweet Bonnie.…

Ovarian and Liver
Has anyone had a recurrence and it shows up in the liver? I asked my doctor if I now have liver cancer and he said, NO this came from the ovarian cancer. I guess I am not understanding. He says this can happen because everything is procesed through the liver. I have just completed my Doxil chemo infusions and the doctor…

Update
Hello ladies. Thought I'd update since I have not been on in a while. I am scheduled to have my ileostomy reversed October 29!! I can't wait. Because I'm having surgery I get to skip my chemo next week. I'm happy about that too! It makes me sick so I'm glad to skip a dose. I can't believe Bonnie has gone to heaven. She was…

In a motel in south Texas and I'm off to the closest ER. My alien is now bigger- the size of a dime - and beef steak red in the surrounding tissue.

I really didn't need this (and I KNOW hubby didn't!)
As if I'm not stressed enough over blood work on Monday and my first 3 month check up.... here is a brief synopsis of the last week.... (Not including work stresses) **hubby has a bunionectomy on Friday 10/1 (Note: He is a diabetic who thinks that Snickers bars and Lemonheads are required food groups) **hubby carries on…

Add some teal to the pink
If you live in the US, you can go to this address http://www.tealtoes.org/contact Fill out the form for the TEAL TOES cards (they list symptoms on the back). A few weeks from then, you'll get an envelope in the mail with a bunch of very nice laminated teal toes cards. Wherever I go, Pharmacy, Doc's office, Library....if I…

had multiple rounds of chemo? Could you have low grade form of OVCA?
Just want to say that recent research by MD Anderson makes a distinction between low grade and high grade forms of ovarian cancer and their research shows traditional chemotherapies are ineffective with low grade form. These are responding to "hormonal" agents like Tamoxifen, a breast cancer drug. After six different…

My mom leaves ICU for Acute Rehab today
It's hard for me to believe that my mom is getting ready to discharge from the hospital today after the long haul she has been through. They removed her trach and she is breathing room air without any O2 support needed. She is able to walk about 25 feet and is doing better eating normally. She is starting to learn how to…

Grateful to have found this discussion
I was diagnosed with stage 111 ovarian cancer last Feb had surgery but they didn't remove anything. After 6 treatments my CA125 was 28 & the tumor had decreased in size and there were no more tumors. After that there was nothing I was told to do or expect. I learned so much from you ladies, from the peach fuzz on my face…

Hair question....nobody laugh
I suddenly remembered a woman I used to work with, whose hair began to get very thin after menopause. Her doctor recommended Rogaine for Men (because the one for men is stronger and being post-menopausal, there was no danger of her getting pregnant). Would something like that be advantageous for us, as well? My hair was…

I'm beginning to understand something
I've wondered, this past year, why we can't just stay on some kind of maintenance chemo after our initial treatment is finished and we are NED, as is so often the case. I asked my Gyn/Onc and he cited several reasons, the primary one being a reluctance to pump poisons into a person's body forever, without knowing if it…

Re: Need help with this and some more questions
Thank you everyone who gave me support and information. I am sure you know how much this means to me. More than I can say. My cancer is CA Metastic to Pleura; CA Ovary Stage 4. In the surgery I had on Sept. 10 there was so much cancer in the abdomen and the intestine was blocked. Tumors were removed from the abdomen and…
