Just Imagine..................
I then thought to myself, wouldnt it be more advantageous to have the forces of ovarian, uterus, and cervical communities and survivors join with the breast cancer community in fund raising, events, races, walks, media access, and identity with have the opportunity to get their message out? To become part of a mobile and well known organization and share in the visibility.
The identity of this newly formed alliance might be called,
"Alliance of Breast Utertine Cervical & Ovarian Survivors" or A B U C O S

Good idea
I think you may have something there. If the powers that be don't sit up and take notice maybe we can form some kind of support group?

It is a great thought and hate to be a dark cloud over a dream but believe it won't happen due to Money and self interest. Why would an organization that is already doing well hook up with one that is not. In business, which is what all organizations are, what happens is the bigger one swallows the smaller one. Someone will say one is getting more than the other ect. ect. Self interest is due to that fact that it is what affects YOU that makes you help others. I regret to say I know this because I, like many others, never gave a thought to womens cancer except briefly at pap smear time. I notice it more because I have it. Just like I noticed more Blue Dodge Neons once I bought one. Hoping we can continue with awareness to all of the Cancers.
If by chance, the dream becomes a reality, maybe a slogan like "It gave you life, now its taking a life, Help Stop Reproductive Cancers Now"?
(Sorry to sound a little negative, had to explain to 2 people yesterday that, Yes people under 55 get ovca and there is no test, and I did take care of myself, and NO you cannot blame me for my Cancer ect. ect.)

Lori is right. The Susan G Komen Foundation is one of the worst "offenders". They threaten litigation if another non-profit uses the color pink and words "the cure" together, in their promos.
The story is touching (and true)....SGK did ask her sister to promise that she would promote awareness, early detection, and a cure for Breast Cancer. Of course, her sister was married to a millionaire who funded the original concept and still manages its business plan. And it has become a business, albeit one that serves the greater good of women in general.
I worked for a local non-profit for 15 years. Truth be told, there are only so many donated dollars out there and you have to pick your cause, then work at competing for as many of those dollars as you can get. Otherwise, you go as belly up as any for profit will, if it runs out of capital. You must keep that cash flow going. And one of the best ways to do that is to edge out the competition. Sad but true.
There is no Santa Claus, no Easter Bunny, and little honor among non-profit groups. It's every cause for itself.

While I am grateful for the breast cancer research that benefits other cancers (and there's quite a bit of it). The truth of the "Pink Machine" is that it has become less of a fundraiser to donate money to a worthy cause and more of a Marketing Tactic. Think about it, before we were touched by ovarian cancer, if you had to choose between the "pink" yogurt or the ordinary yogurt, didn't it make you feel a bit altruistic to buy the pink one? Panera is selling "Pink Bagels" to (insert air quote) raise awareness (end air quote) for breast cancer. Truth be told, they aren't giving those pink away...each one makes a profit. And the people who buy the pink bagel (some proceeds of which go to research funding) also buy full profit for Panera coffee, sweets and other goods.
Am I jaded? You bet I am.
