New to this board
I am new to this particular board. I was dx with Stage IV Colon cancer last July and was declared NED on April of this year. On Sept 13th, my dr removed my left ovary and a cyst. It turned out to be cancerous. I don't have any other details right now and probably won't until Tuesday when I go back to the doctor. I really…

New genetic marker for Ovarian Cancer
July 22, 2010 -- A newly identified genetic marker may help predict ovarian cancer risk, Yale University researchers report online in Cancer Research. Variations in the KRAS gene occur in one-quarter of women with ovarian cancer, and 61% of women with ovarian cancer who have a family history of breast and ovarian cancer.…

Back to it: Taxol and Cisplatin for Linda
We start our third round of treatments tomorrow. Linda's last treatments ended February '08. Obviously we were hoping it whacked it completely but there is a tumor in her lower abdomen so we're going after it. You all know the score. Those two drugs are strong so we appreciate your prayers and well wishes. I'm going to try…

Good News
After 9 months when is my beautiful mom's dx,last night was one of the happiest night that we had together. Her Oncologist said the scan was clear. Though she has 4 more sessions of gem/campto to go and by then it would be 1 full year and she will be a "one year survivor". Along this way this board has been such a blessing…

Clinical Trials: any reason to NOT do one? (Phase 2 trial of XL147)
I know some of you have done Clinical Trials. I have until next Wednesday to decide if I want to participate in one at Fox Chase in Philadelphia. ( http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01013324 ) I have a high grade recurrent endometrial cancer which is treated with the same drugs as ovarian cancer, but I think the drugs…

The Children
I have been reading the posts awhile and have responded a couple times. After reading Dorian's post I had to write this. I hear in the media all the time about how bad the kids of today are. Well, I know they could not possibly be talking about the kids whose parents have this awful diagnoses. I have watched the young ones…

Don't meet the criteria for research trial..now
I had to call my onc. nurse today- as I was due to go in for my CBC before chemo tomorrow. A week or so ago she had called me to see if I wanted to participate in this research trial on a vaccine for OVC- as I met the criteria. However- I wouldn't be able to do my maintenance chemos while in the trial. I had to have a CT…

Speed of Recurrance
Has anyone else's disease returned with the speed of lightning? My mother grew 5 spots in 3 weeks.....I know this is not good, just wondering if it's pretty normal or really bad......not that it matters since it is what it is....

New to this.
I just wanted to say hello. I went to the doctor last Sunday for a cough and some swelling of the abdomen and some bowel troubles. I blamed it on summer stress moving my 82 year old mother and beginning a masters program. Turns out that after an xray showed fluid in my left lung, I was referred to have a CT scan. This…

Mouth Sores
After being on several different chemos, due to various side effects - I am now on Taxol. After taking several doses - I seem to have mouth sores. Tolerable, but my Oncologist feels it may not be the chemo. Has anyone experienced mouth sores while taking Taxol. I've checked the side effects online and just like several…

Concerned about meghan
Is anyone able to personally get in touch with Meghan or her dad? I've been watching her facebook posts lately and I'm very concerned about her! I've sent some supportive email and wall posts, but I doubt that it's enough. :( Leesa

Update on my mother
OK, this may be long....the news is mixed. There has been progression in her cancer, BUT it isn't huge...here's where I see a blessing. Its just enough to place her into the PARP inhibitor part of the trial...which is what she wanted anyway. And I swear the growth is that close to the protocol to get her the Parp. My…

My chemo is being held hostage!
Hi Friends....... It's been a long time since I've stopped by and this might get long, sorry. I've been being treated for recurrance since Jan. with carbo/taxolx4, doxilx4, and now gemzar. I'm holding on so tight, but I know my mom is still going to leave me :,(
There's no describing what my mother has endured the past two years. She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer just six months after her beloved sister died from it (and their mother at age 35, I think we are cancer cursed.) Hysterectomy /debulking in March 08, followed by more complications and total weeks in the…

taxol dossages
HI everyone, I had a good report from my doc, which was music to my ears, after being off chemo for 3 months. (I did do anti-estrogen treatments that helped hold things at bay.) THe CT was clear, although CA was up a bit. I will start weekly taxol next Friday. I am curious, for those of you who are doing some form of…

Weekly Taxol- Is it only for 12 weeks?
I am taking weekly Taxol with Bi-weekly Avastin. I had my Ca-125 taken last week and it is now at 80 (it was 380 9 weeks ago) I missed last week but will resume this week at dose number 10. My question is does the weekly dose end at 12 weeks like I have read in some cases or is it continued until your markers rise or dr.…

NED is in the House!
My wife has gone through her initial 3 rounds of taxol/carbo, had a successful surgery in June, and just completed her last three rounds of Taxol/Carbo. Her last three CA-125s have been a 2. She started with a 266 at diagnosis. Stage = 4. CT and X-Rays all came back negative. We are both doing the happy dance! Question,…

Would like get a hold of the spammer!
I am mad that someone had the audacity to break into our house and litter it with trashy solicitations for watches, handbags, etc. If you haven't noticed, they pulled up old posts and added a sales pitch at the end. I tried to flag each one and also notified the administrator. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon. I really…

My body and I are no longer BFFs
Sometimes it's hard to live in a body you no longer trust, that has betrayed you before and may betray you again. I would really like a new one. Even a used one would be okay, not too many miles, as long as it's clean inside (I can clean up the outside myself; I really would not mind.) It's not personal; I just don't feel…

Scary week
What a week. I am very sad. My dear buddy, my 11 year old lab/chow "Blue" died last night. We had been fighting cancer together and he finally lost his fight. What wonderful protector and friend he was. I know it may seem trivial with all of us fighting for our human lives, but I miss him. My 8 yr old son was heartbroken…

So very sad :(
My Mom had surgery yesterday. Unfortunately, the oncologist was only able to remove Mom's appendix and not the tumor. It was too big and the location interferred with her blood supply. My beautiful Mom has been given a lousy one year to 18 months to live. My Father wants a second opinion but I fear it won't make a spec of…
