Disability - Dysphagia
Several months ago I was at my doctor's office at the Kirkland Clinic and he told me that basically there was nothing else he could do (long term after effects)and now we would simply treat symptoms. My comment to him was "what you're saying is I'm in the Sh@# pile". He smiled and said "yes but you are on top of the pile…

Coughing up blood and sleeping too much
My husband has been sleeping non stop since saturday afternoon. I don't know what's up with my husband, but he seems to be sleeping all day and night. New Cigarette warnings push the envelope
What dose everyone think of the new graphic warnings. Picture of diseased lungs, Person holding a cigarette up to hole in neck and smoking? I'm a bit surprised our government took such a pro-active stance after all the years of the lame warnings on the box. This will get your attention and I think it's a leading step in…

This is the first time I've written on the board. I have cancer of the larynx and finished radiation and chemo about a month ago. I still have my peg tube as I haven't really been able to eat anything but yogurt, ice cream and sorbet. My throat is still really sore and I feel like something is in the back of my throat.…

Long Weekend - Husband is now on IV fluids at home
Friday's appointment didn't go so well. He has lost 10 lbs and he was dehydrated. They gave him fluids and he's getting a bag a day at home for six days. My first experience learning how to hook up an IV bag to his picc line. We didn't have an IV pole so we used a floor lamp...it works but it looks so redneck. They are…

Phlegm/Stomach
Oh how I'd love to return the day when Phlegm made me recall the Monty Python routine in which there was a contest to come up with an insensitive name for the Belgians--the Phlegms (probably more properly the Flems) and the Sprouts took second and third place. Hell, where is that Way Back machine when you need it? So…

CANCER-FREE But New Problem
CT-Scan, Brain MRI, Vocal Cord Biopsy all came out clean. I had radiation last July/August for vocal cord cancer. Voice is a challenge; but I can swallow. All in all, the throat portion of my treatment is coming along fine. HOWEVER: I have a new neurological problem. My visual fields "jump" in both eyes; and this is linked…

"Even if we're just dancing in the dark"
(Bruce Springsteen reference) I promised myself that I would not jump back into the 'natural' thing, but a couple of posts, one in particular, where a great number of tentative sites (at best) are cited as if they are legitimate information resources, lead me to come back one more time. I apologize in advance to all of you…

Healed from BOT excission/tonsillectomy
Two weeks today since BOT excission/tonsillectomy and I am eating normal again and swallowing well. I start chemo/rads on Monday, 13 June. I am really not all that worried, most folks agree that a tonsillectomy is more painful than treatment. I can just say that I hope that holds true, as it was pretty tough. I am just…
