Several months ago I was at my doctor's office at the Kirkland Clinic and he told me that basically there was nothing else he could do (long term after effects)and now we would simply treat symptoms. My comment to him was "what you're saying is I'm in the Sh@# pile". He smiled and said "yes but you are on top of the pile compared to many I treat".
Well today I got what I guess is good news for someone on the pile. I've been drawing short term disability from my company's insurance plan which has required a constant flow of information requests from my doctor. He has been great and has always responded in a timely manner. The news today was that they have approved me for long term disability which means the paperwork should be reduced a great deal.
Now (insurance rules) I must apply for social security disability however the insurance company has a firm to help with the paperwork which will be nice. If I get social security disability then the insurance company will reduce the amount they pay me by the same amount I get from SS. I'm used to this because as a retired military person with a VA disability, they do the same thing. I will keep good notes on the processes so anyone here that needs to go through the social security disability process in the future, I might be able to assist.
So the good news is my disability has been approved; the bad news is I had to apply for it.
Ya'll take care.

That is pretty much what happened with my disability. I was collecting through the policy that I purchased at work. Then they had me apply to SS. They had a company that basically did every thing for me. No fees for me. My insurance company then reduced my monthly benefit by the amount that I receive from SS. So I get the same amount I was, just split between SS and unum. Also, when I got my SS back pay, I had to send that entire amount to my insurance company, as per my agreement with them that I signed when I got the insurance policy.0 -

Greend that is great news my friend, now you don’t have to worry once everything get kicked in and going.
About six months ago the company I am working for asked me if I wanted to go on disability if so they would help me with it or if not I could just stay at what I am doing with no problems. It was a hard decision, I been demoted twice so far because I can’t do more then one thing at a time now.
It is the same with flying my remote air planes; all I do now is crash them. So I have to standby and watch my Son fly them. It is like I am here in 3D but my brain only understands in 2D, get the picture. Ha ha ha
Anyway I have a nice little office with a window and all I do now is built Computerize Maintenance Systems with my 2D brain.
Take care
