Updating my profile page
Aloha to all. This 78 year old survivor (age that is) and soon to be 79 decided to bring about his smiley face and story to my CSN family. I probably can lay claim to be the oldest in this H&N section. I would like to extend my mahalo (thank you) to all you folks who have shared their experiences. I've learned a lot and…

PET Scan - Report in short
In short: IMPRESSION: 1 Findings most suggestive of primary left tongue base tumor with metastatic left cervical lymphadenopathy. 2. No distant FDG avid disease. From my Dr.: I do have good news in that it doesn't appear the cancer is outside of the lymph nodes based on the PET scan. No other areas in the body affected.…

Dry Cough
Since the month long prednisone is almost complete, hubby has been getting hoarse and having a dry cough. The swelling has been coming back somewhat slowly also. Going to start the massage to see if that helps. Anyone have dry cough and hoarsness? Cindy

Pet Scan Results-Less than stellar
Well, the PET is done and every time I read the report it just seems uglier. Here are some quotes: Evaluation of the chest demonstrates multiple new hypermetabolic foci that are worrisome for malignancy. All of these finding could potentially be inflammatory/infectious; however unless there is a clear cut history of such a…

Help with mild thrush...
I could of posted this earlier, but now that it's worked 3 times for me, I'm going to share it. This probably wouldn't work for a massive case of Thrush, tho it could bring relief until someone can get to the Dr. for meds. Since December I've had Thrush 4 times...in January I took Diflucon.....but when it came back the end…

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma
It it is hard to believe that it has been 3 years since I finished my rads, and so far am cancer free. I thank the Lord for his goodness. My energy has returned mostly. My tastebuds are 90%, things tend to not be as flavorful, and I don't eat many crackers, chips, since they are so dry - sort of like eating sawdust. And I…

Swelling update
The swelling/lump below my ear has disappeared now. I can prod about below my ear and it no longer hurts. I'm so relieved, it must have been an ear infection and now it's cleared on its own. I couldn't even sleep on it before. Thought I'd post this incase anyone else gets the same and worries, it isn't always the big C.

My PEG is gone
Just wanted to share! I had it removed this morning. Have not had food through it for 1 month. No meds for a couple of weeks. When I had it put in last Sept/Oct - I never thought this would happen. Then, when I had the surgery for the 2nd cancer, and the esophagus reconstruction, I thought I would have to go slow, and have…

For a brief moment I forgot....
Several times over the last week things just seemed strange. Conditions must have been just right, because I forgot for a brief moment, I was a "Lary", and breath through my neck. My breathing seemed just as it did before I had problems [Cancer], I mean I felt like I was breathing through my nose, it seemed so real. I know…

My research tells me I am looking at Stage 4. I see an Oncologist this Thursday. I have googled myself into the grave. Hoping to hear something positive from…

New Picture
Changed to this selfy of Jim and I. All his teeth have crumbled to the gum. The whole ones are fakes. I have gained 20 lbs since his diagnosis. Jim said, "Hey we have turned into old people!" I guess it happens to all of us. LOL So happy he still has a sense of humor.

Learning about my cancer and treatment plan
I recently was diagnoised with tonsil cancer. Treatment plan is 33 radiations and 3 chemo. Combined on day 1, 21, and 43. Still healing from the neck dissection and incision. What is a PEG tube? This is all so overwhelming but want to learn and understand everything I can before treatments begin. Will I be able to work? My…

Stopping chemo temporarily
I hope all my fellow warriors are doing well. I saw my Oncologist yesterday and we have decided I should stop the Taxotere for awhile. I am for the most part in remission, no visible cancer in my lungs and Mediastynal nodes. The long term use of the Taxotere is what seems like will do me in. My Doc told me last May when I…

Not that Jim couldn't check in for himself - I just know he won't. For all you newbies I wanted to give you some encouragement this morning. Almost four years ago, my husband, Jim, was diagnosed with inoperable hypopharyngeal and base of tongue cancer with lymph node involvement. Three rounds of Cisplatin and 37 radiation…
