Did not pass for chemo yesterday
Hola amigas, I was ready yesterday for my seven cycle of chemo but the nurse told me that my blood can't clot and I have to wait for a week. Has anyone experience this before and what should I do to increase this and be ready for next week. Thank so much

saw the movie 50/50
and thought it was very well done. This man had a 50/50 odds of beating his cancer and my odds are not as good. All the emotions you felt are addressed in the movie, shock, anger, hopelessness ,and a renewed relationship with friends and family. It also has some caregiver issues as well. It is a tear jerker so bring your…

Now THIS is a cause worth supporting...
This time around, because it's still considered "high season" in New York City and the hotels in mid-town Manhattan were going for $400 a night (and since last January we have racked up thousands of dollars in hotel expenses during my many trips to NYC), my daughter and I stayed at The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge.…

Yellow eyes (jaundice) yesterday & today, so an unscheduled visit to the oncologist. :(
I have mets to the liver, and my latest blood labs from 9/25 showed improvement in my liver function since I completed my radioembolism treatments 8/26. So I was surprised when I started developing symptoms of liver distress a couple weeks ago (light stools, Tang-colored urine). Then the last 2 days, the whites of my eyes…

Back home....tired and still NED
My CT scan was termed "good" by Dr S and the radiologist, although I have some "ground glass" in one lung that they think is the result of being intubated during my hernia surgery and a "small" amount of ascites, which they also attribute to the surgery. My CA125 had gone down a point (to 18), so I am still on the vaccine…

Where do most people go for chemo? Med. Onc private office or large cancer centerI
I was wondering where most of you go. I was previously going to a cancer center and getting standard chemo. I'm going to go back to an oncologist near my area as the travel to the city was too much, especially on days I had chemo, plus I took public transportation. The latest treatment suggested was Alimta. I was wondering…

I finally had the surgery three months after finding an adnexal mass incidentally on an MRI of the hips for severe arthritis. I'm starting to really hate steroids.
I took my fifth treatment yesterday. I could not settle down last night or this morning. Woke up several times during the night sweating (of course, those wonderful hot flashes). Now I have no energy. I stay so hungry after treatments. It's hard for me to understand why some people take steroids by choice. Guess they like…

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
I'm on day 17 out from my first chemo round. I cut my hair really short the week after my first chemo. This morning I woke up with my head feeling tender and a little sore, and today as I run my fingers through my hair I'm starting to have several strands come out. Does this mean that I have arrived at the point of…

Need some help to decide the best port to ask for
I decided I need to see the surgeon about my port, it's not getting any worse, but it's not getting better, even after 18 days of antibiotics. When I originally had my port put in, the surgeon didn't tell me of different kinds. The one I had was a portacath and I always found it to be somewhat large and bulky (in fact the…

My mother-in-law is taking her first round of chemo as I type this. They are giving her a booster(not sure what that's for?) then taxol/cisplatin. When will she start feeling sick? I am an adjunct teacher for a local college and had agreed to teach two classes this coming Spring. I started treatment last week and will have 5 more which will take me to the beginning of February. For those of you who have been through it, do you think I am expecting too much of myself to work full time AND continue my…

Heparin for IV flush
I know this topic came up a week or two ago regarding the possible angiogenic effects of heparin and whether it was wise to use it as a flush in your port. It turned not only my life but the life of my mom and dad and all the people in my life. It seemed that my mom and dad's life stopped and it became all about me. I have never been the type to want to…

A rare bit of good news to share: CA125 dropped 9,309 points in last month.
I'm weird about CA125. Once mine went up into the thousands, I refused to worry about it. But when I get a big drop, I DO celebrate it, because good news related to my disease progression has been pretty darn rare for me this past year of my cancer journey. So I had to share this, even though I just don't know what it…
