update
I just had my 3rd chemo yesterday, since having my 3rd debulk surgery on August 31st. My doctor's comment after surgery was, "I thought this was going to be palliative, and I am very pleased to say we wre able to remove all visible tumors. There is 5% we need to rely on the chemo to get." I did have a couple chemo assays…

What are the chances?
I was dx. with stage 3a, grade 3, clear cell in July 2010. I will get my last Avastin treatment in about a week. I'm in a trial GOG-252, I had IV/IP Taxol and Cisplatin along with the Avastin. I had a mammogram in October 2010 that was fine. I had a mammogram last month that was fine. Last week I felt/saw a hard lump in my…

Using up my wig care products
I hate to waste things, so I am using up all my $10 a bottle wig care products on my "new" crop of hair, and have found that the wig restorer actually makes a great treatment for dry, brittle hair. The shampoo works just fine on real hair, as does the styling gel. I have a number of scarves and hats, plus several wigs (all…

An excerpt from the book “Embrace, Release, Heal,” from an interview with Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD, a specialist in orthomolecular therapy (OMT) (treating with vitamins and nutrients). “…Dr. Hoffer was glad to report that there is a growing international movement to study and use OMT. Audio Help for Caregivers
Hi All- Not sure if this idea has been posted before. My husband is taking a lot of meds for pain control, esp. when he has flares (bone mets from prostate ca.). A couple of weeks ago, he yelled out my name from the bedroom where he was resting and scared the be-jeebies out of me and my daughter. He was really so weak from…

First yearly checkup with gyn/onc
I saw my surgeon on Tuesday. It was a year ago on 11/03/2010 that he told me I was in remission. He is pleased with my CA 125 of 5. I mentioned that I sometimes worry when I get a pain, a twinge or I feel bloated. He said when that happens to look at my CA 125. He said that is accurate and that my cancer is in remission. I…

I'm new
What should I expect during the first year after chemo treatment? After treatment, I felt tired and sick and my memory was limited. After six months, I thought I would be back to normal, but I am still felling tired, my body aches, and my memory is really bad. I went back to school and I feel like i am going to have to…

Evelyn Lauder, dies of ovarian cancer
Evelyn Lauder, the woman who launched the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness, has died from ovarian cancer. In 1992, Lauder worked with her friend Alexandra Penney, the former editor-in-chief of Self magazine, to create the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness. It started small with Lauder and her…

Cabozantinib (XL184) clinical trial
Thanks to Greg (gdpawel), I found this promising targeted therapy phase II clinical trial (identifier number NCT00940225) which may be of interest to some OVCA survivors who have had their second recurrence. I am not eligible because the inclusion criteria requires that the subject has failed on their second line of chemo…

To have surgery or Not??
My mother was diagnosed in September with Stage IV. She has gone through 3 rounds of carbo/taxol and her CA125 went from 625 to 111. Her oncologist has suggested the debulking surgergy but some of our family members think the surgery will be too hard on her. She is 70, in great health other than the OV cancer but she is…

Good morning ladies, Lately I have been having bad dreams involving my parents. In a nutshell this is the one I had last night. I had called my mom to tell her i was finished work so she was coming to pick me up (I don't know how that got in there since i have a car and mom never picked me up from anywhere). Well she…

New to this board
Hello. I normally post on the caregiver (to my late husband) or the thyroid (I have this type of cancer) board. I had a PET scan this week (to try and find why my blood levels for the thyroid were elevated, but nothing showed on the ultrasound or body scan) and it showed uptake to my left ovary. I am worried. Can anyone…

I'm Baa-aa-ck...with good news!
AS many of you know, I was diagnosed with OVCA mets to the brain. Directly to the brain, with no stops in between (my oncologist and my gyn/onc were both stunned by this because even my CA125 went up, unusual for brain mets apparently). At any rate, after brain surgery, whole brain radiation and gamma knife....it's…

Since your diagnosis, what are some things you thought you would never hear? Let's have some humor
I NEVER thought I would have a dr. tell me to not lose any more weight. I never thought I would have a doctor describe me as thin. And finally, one day at chemo I couldn't get the recliner the rest of the way back up. The chemo nurse said " you don't weigh enough to push it down." I know it was just because I was so tired…

I don't know what to say
It's been exactly 5 months since my mother died of this disease. I lurk on the board. I come and see new names and want to offer hope and support....and realize I haven't any to provide. then I see Linda P's post and am sickened. Then I see old names who were my life for so long, LeesaG, Carlene Hissy Fitz, Kayandok, and…

Taking platelets tomorrow. Kinda scared.
What should I expect from the platelet transfusion? Any side effects? The NP said other than sleepiness from the Benadryl there are no side effects generally. I like to hear from those who have experienced these things :) Thanks ladies! Carla

Naturapathic Doctor
I had my 6th dose of carbo/taxol Aug 3 and I spent a rough 8 days in the hospital. Chemo did a number on my blood count BUT the end of Aug my ct scan showed "No efidence of disease" My marker never got below 35. At the end of Sep my marker went up again and is now at 350 even tho the Pet and CT scans still show nothing. I…

Now that chemo is over, what can I expect?
I took my last treatment Tuesday. I'm achy and fatigued today. I will remain on Avaistan for two years. What can I expect now? How long will it take for my body to recover from the chemo? While my last CA-125 was down to 14, I am still scared. I suppose that's normal. I have noticed that when I don't feel as well…

good news re: Nov. 10th surgery - prayers DO work!!!!!
Just to let you sweet sisters know that my surgeon Dr. Barakat called today to say that he feels the surgery scheduled for Nov. 10th does not need to be major open up serious as he had originally thought but can be done laproscopically (!) because the nasty tumor is so tiny and isolated with no spread - this would mean…
