14 years old??

in Ovarian Cancer #1
Hello, I am familiar with the ACS discussion boards. My husband was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2004. Sadly, he passed away in 2005. I found alot of support and helpful information here.

The reason I am here today is I just found out a friend of mine's daughter is being treated with chemo for ovarian cancer! I didn't even know a child of this age can get this cancer. I have an 11 year old daughter who just started her period and it scares me to even think about this. Is this common?

    I have a friend who works at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, TN. She said they have had 2 or 3 teenagers with ovarian cancer this year. There is one lady on here whose 5 yr. old daughter is being treated for it. Unreal! Fortunately, I think it is rare. Will be praying for your friend's daughter.

    I am so sorry about your husband. My husband died from a massive heart attack in April 2010. It was completely unexpected. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May of this year. I still feel completely lost without him.

    When I got diagnosed I read
    When I got diagnosed I read most studies I could get a hold of. This cancer does not necesarily have an age group. From what I understood if you had an ovary and were of child bearing years you were more at risk for it. Though there were some really young children that had it.

    I have a niece who has been spotting abnormally for months and has some pelvic pain. I keep telling her to go to the doctor. She has not gone...even with my diagnosis. I pray it is nothing.

    When I got diagnosed I read most studies I could get a hold of. This cancer does not necesarily have an age group. From what I understood if you had an ovary and were of child bearing years you were more at risk for it. Though there were some really young children that had it.

    It is not common, but it can happen. Read an article that a 5 yr old was dx with stage 2 ovarian cancer. Make sure you daughter knows the signs and symptoms
