A couple more "happy stories"
More happy stories.....all true and all recently posted: I was diagnosed IIIC in May, 1987. A friend of mine was diagnosed in the fall of 1985 or 1986. She recurred after 14 years but after treatment for the recurrence she has been fine. I recurred in 1993 but I have needed no treatment since March 1994. I was relieved…

CA-125
I have a question. My Mom was diagnosed in February with stage 3a ovarian cancer. Her ca-125 was 3250. After her surgery, and they said they got it all, but before her first treatment her ca-125 was 24. After 2 treatments it was down to 12.7, well she went back today for her 4th treatment and the Dr changed her chemo meds,…

Hello all you wonderful people Thanks for helping at our time of need. As I've said before what comes around goes around. My mom entered eternal life Wed at 4:09pm with her family by her side. She fought hard but the treatment was too late. She is peaceful and was at the end. Again lets all keep fighting to end this…

Too scared to be happy
I just wondered if anyone ever felt the anti-climax I am feeling after receiving positve news from the hospital. My oncologist (himself) phoned me the other day to offer good news that my CT scan was positive and there is No Evidence of Disease on any of my major oragns or lymph nodes. This is a really positive outcome for…

My mom was just DX not long ago- I love her so much
She is 65. Just wanted to say you are all strong women and you are all also in my prayers. God Bless you - and you will beat this as I know mom will. She has a wonderful ocologist/gynecologist. This hit our family like a ton of bricks. She is still, as always- incredibly positive and never complains. Had her first round of…

Eyebrows are melting!
Hi Ladies, Here is a frivolous and yet important question. I've been using brow powder to stencil in my eyebrows. However, as the weather becomes "hazy, hot and humid" here in Baltimore, my eyebrows are melting off of my face! Any suggetions for setting them (I use powder, doesn't work) or other forms of makeup that looks…

PET/CT vs CT
I am wondering why a PET/CT is not the choice diagnostic tool when monitoring for recurrence. A PET/CT caught my recurrence early. The CT portion showed all clear but the PET portion showed hybermeatabolic area. On my most recent PET/CT, the CT portion showed my primary recurrent spot to be IMPROVED but the PET portion…

Native American Lakota Healing Prayer
Sharing a poem that was given to me by a family member while I was very sick. My grandfather was a Lakota (born on the reservation in South Dakota). I found this very comforting. ************************************************************** Our Father, the Sky, hear us and make us strong. Our Mother, the Earth, hear us…

Any info or advice about IP chemo?
I am getting ready to start IP chemo (taxol/cisplatin) next week. I am 5 weeks out from my (very successful) debulking surgery, and before that, 3 cycles of IV chemo (taxol/carbo), which is what I believe helped to make the surgery successful. Nancy, I hope you read his because you mentioned having IP chemo. What should I…

Gemzar seems to be working!
Finally got my ca125 results from last week and its down to 104! In February it was up to 256 shortly after starting Doxil. It continued to rise up to 658 by 4/15 :-( one week after changing to Gemzar. Now with just 2 partial treatments,(neutrophil counts too low for third, Day 22, infusion in both Apr and May) but…

Ultra Sound!
That is my update for now. I did have my CT scans and chest xray on Monday, May 17th. My "new" onc/gyn scheduled me to have a pelvic ultrasound today. I see him Monday, June 28th. He feels this may/may not show the cul de sac nodule. And then I go from there? Last CA125 was May 10th when CA was 17.2. White count was 2.8…

IP
Just wondering what makes someone a good candidate for IP? Wondering if this may be an option for my mom, and what questions to possibly ask the doctor. Thanks! Tracey

Asites build up
I have a friend who has PPC and has been fine for a while now after her chemo. However she is worried that the fluid is beginning to build up in her abdomen again. She is feeling bloated. Do any of you know how long after the end of chemo does it start to come back? Cheers Tina xx

Can some mother give e their opinions on this please?
As you all know, my mother's CT scan indicated a recurance 2 weeks ago. After speaking with the gyn/onc I really pushed for a PET scan and after being reluctant because of insurance issues, she agreed that a PET was a good idea. My mother didn't want it (I think because she is terrified) but she did take it today. Next…

carbo/taxotere without port?
Anyone go through chemo without a port? My mom's cardiologist wont let her stop taking her plavix to have the port put in. Surgeon wont put it in if her bloodwork shows something - mom talked to the dr, and she couldn't remember exactly what they would be looking for. So, blood work tomorrw, then decision on whether port…

Another "feel good" story....Stage IIIc and still in remission after 3 yrs
Copied and pasted this from another board.... Presently, I am almost 32 months out from diagnosis (stage IIIC) and I am thankfully still in remission. I try to be positive and assume I have a future, living my life like I will be around to live it. I plan vacations way in advance, bought an expensive new coat (that…

2nd round of chemo questions
My mom and I were going to go to the beach with my daughter and meet my cousin & her family while they are there, but now that she was just dx'd and will have her 2nd dose of chemo in 2 weeks, I am really not sure what to do. She may be too sick to want me around and I know everyone is different but that it will make her…

Good MRI for husband last week, more chemo for me next week
My husbands 4-month MRI results came back sounding really good. The smart folk at UCSF say the little part that they are pretty sure was a bit of tumor left behind (or possibly scar tissue) seems to have diminished in size--haven't heard from our friend "NED" yet though. His brain tumor is slow growing so IF we have to…

Herbal supplements after chemo
I am 8 weeks post chemotherapy now hurray :) I would like some advise on whether to take supplements or not. I've asked my Oncologist and he was a bit vague and non committal and said "just for the short term". I was a bit confused by his answer and thought afterwards he may have thought I wanted to go back on HRT. So…

FYI: new study results
I read something interesting on the ovariancancer.org website. Largest recurrent ovarian study Phase 3 clinical trial results for recurrent ovarian with at least 6 month remission show carbo/doxil combo is superior to carbo/taxol to treat recurrence. You can read about at: ovariancancer.org

New to the boards---sorta
Hi I'm just starting out on this board but have been amazed at the support, advice, prayers and love that flows from these threads. Tina suggested this bord (thanks ;-) Tina!) I got my dx for ovarian cancer on December 23 2010. My husband, Bob had gone into the ER with numbness on the side of his face. He was diagnosed…

METHOTREXATE
Not a cancer question, but an RA questions - rheumatoid arthritis. Our daughter was recently diagnosed with severe RA. We started her on an exercise program, supplements, dietary changes, etc., etc. The only thing left at this point (medically, anyway), is to get her off the steroids. And according to her doctor (very…

IP Port Problems
I have almost completed my 4th (out of 6) chemo treatments. Last Tuesday was an IP cisplatin day that did not go well. The chemo nurses had a difficult time placing the needle in my IP port, and I ended up with a total of 5 painful punctures, and had chemo leak out after I got home. I wonder if anyone else has had this…

My soulful reflection for the day
I had my 3rd maintenance dose of Taxol this week. I complained to my doctor that I get soooooo tired, so easily. I can sleep the clock around, some days (most days). He said, "Well, your blood work looks good, so it's not that. Its probably because we're poisoning you." Chemo humor, I guess. I happened to sit next to a…
