Hi everyone ... I am Julie, Cammie88 (Christie's) mom. I have decided to introduce myself and thank all of you for caring for my daughter. I think Christie has told you that we are going to the Oncologist for the first time tomorrow. We will probably post after we get home. I want all of you to know that I will beat this…

I had my port removed
Yesterday I had my port removed. I had been really apprehensive about the procedure, knowing that it was going to be done under local anesthetic and having a fear of needles. I had to work on not worrying about it, as worry doesn't change what is going to happen. I can happily report that it was not at all painful. I even…

Toxicity of Folfox for family
I am so confused and everyone seems to have a different answer. I had asked my oncologist about taking precautions with the bathroom at home during chemo pump infusions. She said don't worry that isn't the type of chemo you are going to be on. My first chemo was two weeks ago and the infusion nurse said it was alright to…

Laz's Wedding.
Thank you so much for all your well wishes. I read every one of them with joy and told my bride about how nice this community is. The wedding day was beautiful. We had 10 guest and we did everything ourselves. The only sad thing was that my ex let my daughter stay for only two hours so she couldn't even stay for the…

post op Not good news
Went today and got my staples out and I feel a little better. But the new was not so good. They did not get all the cancer, There is a very small spot that they can't get to. It is on the duct of the liver. They got as close as they could . So now I have to do a few round of radation and then chemo. I never did radation…

No Liver Lesions!
As you all know my CT on Moday showed a questionable small spot. We followed up with a liver ultrasound and it shows all clear. What a relief!!! So now we "just" have to cut this sucker out, get some more chemo and we should be good. Not crazy about losing my Sphincter and the permanent colostomy, but at least nobody can…

New testing for specific therapy
If any of you might remember 6 mo ago I had great results from my PET after starting Erbitux and resuming Irinotecan. All but one lesion showed no activity and that one was smaller and less active. After 3 more mo of the same weekly treatments I got the results my last week scan yesterday. Many new and reactivated lesions…

UPDATE - Father Diagnosed with Colon Cancer
Hello, I posted the below a bit ago and received the most uplifting responses. I wanted to give all of you an update based on his oncologist appointment today. Obviously they received a TON of information that I think they are still trying to digest. However, the doctor started the appointment by telling my mom that she is…

Off Topic...Beau's new heart....
11 weeks ago, my beau was just out of transplant surgery. He is doing EXTREMELY well, and I catch myself glancing at him and realizing that without this surgery, I would be left only with a memory. HUGE thank you for the organ donor's family, for making the supreme sacrifice at their darkest moment of losing their young…

Lung nodules??
Just got back from onc's office. The 1yr from surgery showed small, 3 and 4 mm -lung nodules. She says we should wait for 6 months and rescan. Does that sound like a reasonable amount of time to wait. Would at PET scan give more definitive results? My cc is signet ring cell. I was 2a, but due to aggressiveness of signet…

Radiation burns and BMs
It's been almost two years since I had radiation, but even now my bum will be in so much pain after going to the bthrm, esp. when I've had multiple bowel movements. Seriously, the pain can make me cry. Does anyone have any advice? I had 30 rounds of direct radiation to my bum.

chemo is raising blood sugar level
Chemo seems to dramatically raise my mom's blood sugar level. Example: right before the chemo her blood sugar level was 70, and right after the chemo, it had shot up to 130! Is this a common phenomenon? This is frustrating, because we've been trying to keep her blood sugar level low, as there is a theory that cancer cells…

Laz' Update
So I got the report of the MRI and the chest/liver CT. Unfortunatelly my rectal cancer did not responded to the radiation and chemo at all. So I need full resection. Lymph nodes look ok. I decided to go with a surgen at Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles. He was very confident, warm, patient with us and the hospital has very good…

Hi Friends, As I mentioned ****'s scan from 9/13/13 showed progression. Today we met with his local onc and he recommended Regorafenib and then looking for clinical trials. We are all interested in the study at Stanford which uses immune therapy. We are also meeting with Dr. Castro here in Hawaii on Thursday. He…

How cancer may cause stress
haha...a spinoff on Laz's post about stress causing cancer. I'm finding it's the opposite. The stress since my husbands diagnosis has taken its toll - strangely enough he seems to handle things better than the rest of us. I'm not sure how or why or if he's just pushing it deep inside, but he says he's not wasting 1 day…

How Stress May Cause Cancer.
Sep 11, 2013 - 10:35 am This is my theory. Obviously there are many causes for cancer: genetic, environmental, nutritional etc. But let's concentrate on stress here. I believe the way normal cells turn into cancerous cells is that there is a change in their genetic material, the DNA. Now this happens millions of times a…

UPDATE on scan - Read for lab info
Dear Friends, I apologize for posting and then deleting the post. We had not talked to our daughter yet and I did not want any news to get out on social media. She is away at college and we spoke to her yesterday evening. ****'s pet scan on Friday showed growth in lung mets (largest is now 2.2cm), enlarged lymph nodes (we…

Need Help & Reassurance - or just someone to listen to me ramble on
So, my husband is on a new chemo, it makes him very sick. He throws up while he is at home on his pump and for a few days after he is off, then the diareah starts. He doesn't feel like eating but he forces himself, then he either throws it up or he has diareah and loses it all that way. And i know this is going to sound…

Stool
I know it's a pretty gross topic, but I thought this would be a good place to ask. Anyway, I should first say that I'm not especially concerned about this. The only reason why I'm asking is because my mom had colon cancer at 42, and now she has it again (you may have seen my thread). I read that "pencil stools" are a sign…
