Getting ready for surgery.
I was doing so good so far. As I'm getting closer to the 8th, I'm looking more and more into what the surgery is gonna be like And what it is going to involve. This is a mix of natural curiosity and mental preparation. First I got myself familiar with the colostomy and it feels like I'm comfortable with that now. Then…

change of plan...too much radiation
well I finally woke up and realized that my scan on Wed was written for an ultrasound....not a CT.....last time I had ultrasound the radiologist rejected it and it scared the daylights out of me and I had to go ahead and do the ct anyway. Now my onc has decided to do an MRI and then in 6 months do a ct scan......thus…

Last Chemo Treatment Last Thursday (Sept 26)
I started my battle on Halloween 2011. That was over 700 days ago (nearly two years). Four surgeries, twenty-two radiation treatments, eleven treatments of FOLFOX and Oxaliplatin, twelve treatments of FOLFIRI and Erbitux, and countless scans later I finally have a legitimate shot at a FULL REMISSION! Praise and Glory be to…

HOW DO YOU STAY POSITIVE AND HOPEFUL?
We all know that the cancer journey is a roller coaster ride. You have highs and lows, successes and defeats. In the middle of all this is hard to stay positive and hopeful and we all have to build a new reality. I'm wondering if you have any "technique", ritual, activity or a mental process to get you and keep you in a…

Wandering minds would like to know
I was just diagnosed with stomach cancer (gone now....so they say) and stage 4 metastatic colon cancer (which has not reached any organs yet) in April this year (2013). I was just wondering if anyone would care to share when they were diagnosed with me. I have my ups and downs, but find myself anxiety ridden with what is…

Hi everyone, My apologies for the long post. I am hoping that some of you can help me understand what happened to my mom or at least shed some light. The Lone Ranger
Tracon has closed the study trial on the TRC 105. Robert was the only one left out of 28 subjects, and the only one who has had a response (i.e. shrinkage). They are "rolling" him over to a continuation of the trial, since he is responding, where he will be the only participant. Treatment will remain the same. Last scan…

Is there anything I hate more than getting a scan?-UPDATED
No. Can’t think of much of anything I hate more… with the possible exception of waiting for scan results. But I can’t complain too much about the PET I had this morning, considering that the only reason that I get to have regular PET scans involves me throwing a kinda embarrassing tantrum, complete with words like "lawyer"…

Is there a test...
...they can perform on cancer cells once they are removed to tell if Folfox is effective? I'm asking this, because I barely had any shrinkage after radiation, Xeloda and 3 rounds of Folfox. Thanks, Laz

I have a kind of complicated question.
My wife was scheduled to have a treatment this past monday. But because the tumor on her liver grew from 5.1 to 5.8, and a couple smaller ones also grew a little. They rescheduled her for this coming monday to try a different treatment. In the mean time I contacted Roswell cancer institute for a second opinion. I called my…

Update on Jason....
Hey everyone! Sorry I've been slacking on my updates on Jason, but I've been having some issues myself. NOTHING like what he & most of you all are going through, but pretty sucky for me. I have a torn rotator cuff in BOTH shoulders, no it couldn't possibly have been just one, had to be both. lol So, even typing gets…

Hi Tedd. Haven't noticed any recent posts. How have things been going? Last thing I remember was that you were hoping to be discharged from hospital. The chemo seemed to be working. Hope all is well. Chelsea

Pain in the neck
i'm very new to this site but I was wondering if anyone has had pain in the back of their neck. I was dx'd with stage IV colon cancer in April 2013. My first 2 chemo treatments turned out very scary because I had an allergic reaction to the Oxiliplatin. I have since just been on Xpills until until 2 weeks ago when I…

Home again from hospital
Man, it's been a tiring few days. Went to the ER Wednesday because around 2am noticed I wasn't producing any urine. I have been on a catheter since April. My left kidney doesn't work since April . I walked around thinking that would open things up. At 3 am I finally woke mywife up and we headed off to ER. I was really…

PET Scan results
I've been riding around on the roller coaster for 6 1/2 years now. I've had many ups and downs, and some fun riding along. I've been chugging up a big hill for about 6 months with my rising CEA, and it appears I'm near the top and about to head back down into treatment mode again. I saw my onc today to get the results of…

Chemo/rad- my experience and advice
I recently finished chemo & radiation for stage IIIB rectal cancer. The forum has been incredibly helpful for me so I’d like to share my experience and what I learned in hopes it may help someone, particularly the newly diagnosed. I love to do research so bear with me if this is lengthy but I know there are others like me…

Chemo Drugs
My brother has 5 lung nodules and 1 liver mass that is 3 cm. He had an anterior resection in 2011 and had chemo/rad before and chemo after surgery. He had finished his chemo August 2012 and his scans had been clear up until a couple of months ago. His CEA levels went up and his CT scan and MRI showed lung noudules and…

Trying new things for the pain
So I'm def on a roll in my quest to rid my life of pain pills. I've managed to cut out a whopping two of the six I was formerly taking. Go me! I seem to be a bit stuck, as once I take out the next half, the pain comes back with a vengeance, so I've decided a give a few, more alternative things a try. I went yesterday to an…

second opinion.
I finaly talked my wife into getting a second opinion. We will be sending her records to Roswell cancer institute in Buffalo NY. They are considered the best cancer hospital outside of NYC. I am not real pleased with the road she is on with her current oncologist. Hope to hear from them soon with a appt.
