I have good news to share. I had MRI and CT scans last week and the results are good. I'm now 5 years out cancer-free. It took a couple of years to get my stage 4 colon cancer into remission. My cancer had spread to two lymph nodes, two tumors in my liver, and three in my lungs. I'm very grateful and hope my story can give…

BMI, Diet, and NED
Is anyone here at a higher BMI than they should be and long time NED? This study says it doesn't seem to matter for long term survival but I'm not sure if anyone has more info. Does body mass index impact the number of LNs harvested and influence long-term survival rate in patients with stage III colon cancer? - PubMed…

low fiber/residue diet
My current plan of action is to avoid surgery until after I can finish another round of chemo and then portal vein embolization, so about another 6-8 weeks. After that time I would have surgery on both the colon and liver. I have had one bowel obstruction and am a good candidate for another. If I do obstruct again they are…

We talked about radiation or chemo. She said at this point there is a…

New to CSN and a little lost
I’m new here and I’m not sure if this is where I should introduce myself (I did look for a category for newcomers but didn’t see one) but I also don’t want to be thought of as a “lurker” so here goes – short story: colon cancer (tumor removed in 2019 along with resectioning) that metastasized in the liver after a few…

Lower Anterior Resection Syndrome
I just found out that the interesting bowel habits I have had since my surgery back in 2012, has a name - Lower Anterior Resection Syndrome. Why did my Oncologist or Radiation Oncologist not tell me that before? It has always just been a side effect, and now I have a name for it. Somehow, it makes me feel good, to be able…

LARS Question/resection with no ileostomy
Looking for some info on what to expect post-op as related to the possibility of dealing with LARS, I am 3 weeks post op, was able to lobby for a laparoscopy, and no ileostomy. That went well and so far so good. I was T3b N1M0, tumor higher in the rectum. Had FOLFOX and radiation pre-surgery. Was told to expect some bowel…

Bad reaction to my last Oxiplatin infusion
I knew beforehand that the last infusion, yesterday, wasn't going to be easy. Had no idea how bad:0( Was only able to take a third of the bag before a few hives, severe lower abdominal pain, and profusely sweating. Took about an hour and a lot of Benadryl and passing out for 30 minutes before I woke and felt better. Hope…

Neuroendocrine tumor
Has anyone had a neuroendocrine tumor of the rectum, anus, or colon? I was diagnosed with rectal cancer, a neuroendocrine type, in 2002 at age 32, and I am told it is a rare type of tumor to occur in the rectal/anal area. I had chemo, a colostomy, radiation in 2002-early 2003, then a recurrence this past Sept. 2003 in my…

Possible recurrence of colon cancer
Hi I was diagnosed at 43 with stage 3 colon cancer back in 2018. All labs and CT scans and colonoscopies were NED. I was…

Pelvic Recurrence with Sacral Mets
My Dad was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma Rectum in 2017. For which he got LAR and ileostomy bag and then also got 6 months of FOLFOX. But we never had radiation. Then in 2017, PET CT came clear. Treatment ‘options’
I’m just curious if there are others out there who said no to adjuvant Chemo and how you feel about it now. I’m roughly 5 1/2 months post ileostomy take down and 7 1/2 since the LAR. And I’m kinda plagued by the ‘did I make the right decision?’ I’ve apparently got a new chronic anxiety now, thanks to cancer. I was in no…
