A Hopi Prayer
A Hopi Prayer by Mary E Frye Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet white doves in…

Got my chair today!
As hard as it is to imagine using a chair, at the same time I am thrilled to have it! It is a jazzy go-chair, blue, and it breaks down really easily into 4 parts so it will fit perfectly in the back of my CRV. I was very worried about how I would be able to get around with it, but it is so compact. Did find out though that…

D.I.E.P. Reconstruction - rib bone piece now in my belly
I saw my plastic surgeon today, found out something interesting that I thought I'd share. I've completed the D.I.E.P. reconstruction after my mastectomy, and a breast lift on my other side, and was back to the surgeon today to plan the final small surgery to form the nipple. I was reading a newspaper article posted on his…

ambiguous feelings
Tomorrow marks one year since I found out I have cancer. I have been trying to think of it as positive, but when I recall the day, it is not easy. I have been feeling apprehensive all week. I am not sad, but I am not "happy" either. I want to mark the day, but I am not sure how. My daughter thinks I should celebrate, but I…

Turmeric
There are a few avid followers of the Anti Cancer diet over on the uterine cancer board, particularly the poster below. She researches everthing and provides some very interesting data. Since the article she is now posting is about Taxol, Tumeric and breast cancer, I'm going to copy and paste it here so you can see it. If…

Hi My mom just finished radiation treatments and she is experiencing burning, itchy and dryness on her breast, under her armpits and alittle below her neck area. Autumn Leaves
Anyone seeing any fall color yet? Wed. when going up to Ft. Meade when I got to the higher elevation I started seeing color on the oaks and cottonwoods. Thursday morning here on the edge of the prairie we had our first frost - not a heavy/killing frost but still a frost - it did 'nip' my bougainvillas but tomatoes are OK.…

A Tribute to a Fallen Warrior, 9-30-2010
September 30, 2010 Today I lost a very dear friend to cancer. She died this morning at the hospital with family and friends by her side. Her name was Zena Simmons and she was EXCEPTIONAL! She was loved by many! I met Zena at the chemo clinic and was automatically drawn to her unfaltering, sunny disposition. Back in…

What do doctors really know and how much of what we read do you believe? ( a rant )
Sometimes I think it's just better to bury your head in the sand and not listen to anyone or anything out there on breast cancer. First let me say I am one of those people that rely (too much) on just what the doctor tells me - and you know if you don't ask the right questions, you may not even know about something. I…

Has anyone gotten a lump (cancerous or benign) in their biopsy scar?
Hi everyone, Just met with my MO after becoming a rad grad earlier this week (tjohoo!). She felt something in my armpit that she wants me to go see my surgeon for. It did not feel like cancer to her. It was not a lump but more of a long "wedge" that tapered. She guessed it was scar tissue from surgery. Nevertheless, she…

Update & Next Steps
First, thank you all for... everything. You are simply the best. :-) Surgery (wire-guided lumpectomy) went well. One complication - adverse reaction to the specific sedation drug used. Left me feeling very "sickly" for several days afterwards. (Of course, my medical records are now noted accordingly.) Last week, saw my med…

Not sure what to do, feel or say.
I need some wisdom. My mom last year was dx with cervical cancer. She went through surgery, chemo, and rads. She had a terrible time especially with the surgery. She still has pain. She believes the cancer has come back, in fact she's comvinced of it. She will have a PET Scan the end of this week. She says she's…

coloring your hair after chemo
I finished chemo the end of June 2011 and my hair came back very silver with some dark hair. I have about half inch or so and feel I would be less uncomfortable with my hair dyed even though it still is short(with only scant bangs). Has anyone used henna hair dye which was recommended by my oncologist? Friends tell me I…

Tomorrow is the Day
I go to have the Dr go over all the test results. I had a sneak preview and their doesn't seem to be anymore lumps on the MRI except the one I already have. Bone scan looks good. I have a polyp in my gallbladder and a spot on my liver. But the dr will talk to us, and let me know what the course of treatment will be. Then I…
