OT Warm Fuzzies
Danny and I have really been churning out the blankets again. The new infusion center has beautiful windows and was rather warm this summer. But now it's getting cooler. We just donated 2 dozen and have about 20 more when they finish handing those out. I still really get a big kick out of it. And, forgive my chemo brain,…

Just saw this on Facebook and had to share - a 10 year old with BC. Mariam, how are you doing after your surgery? Guilty pleasure TV recommendations, everyone!
Mariam, I don't think I've seen anything from you since your Buy-3-Surgeries-Get-A-Free-Toaster-Friday -- we're thinking about you, and wondering how everything went, and how you're feeling? To go along with your "emergency" stash of dark chocolate bonbons and Toblerone, I hope you're indulging in some mindless, guilty…

Encouraging visit with my Onc on Friday
I saw my Onc on Friday...it was very encouraging. He only needs to see me every six weeks, not every three like I assumed. (Of course, I'm supposed to call or email if something comes up in between.) And, he told me (I didn't know this part) that there are so few cancer cells in those little lymph nodes that they're not…

Some Venting
Seems like I take 2 steps forward and 10 back. I've been struggling to get back to some normalcy. In June of 2011 it was a year that I had completed all treatment. I have a real problem fighting off infection. I've had bronchitis since the beginning of Sept. and have started my 2nd round of prednisone and my 4th…

Implant Surgery Coming Up
I'm finally getting the implant surgery done in a few weeks. I was reading the Mentor literature with all of the warnings of things that can potentially go wrong. I'm getting a little worried about it now. All the info on capsular contracture, potential rupturing and other issues sound scary. Has anyone out there had…

Kind of nervous
Flying to California tomorrow morning, alone. It is a short flight, but I have not done anything alone other than grocery shopping or going to a doctor appointment in a year! Amazing how I have gone into my own little world, and now it is hard to get back out. My sister-in-law will pick me up at the airport, then we will…

A little laugh.....
I know this has probably been around a while but I needed a laugh when my friend sent it. Hopes it helps some of you. 1. She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one…

Second Opinion
Hello to my sisters. It sucks to be here, but I am happy to have sisters who share a common bond with me. :) Anyway, I am at a crossroads of sorts. I want a second opinion just to be sure about my treatment options. I did call Cancer Treatment Centers of America and actually have an appt for the 26th. They will be doing 3…

Has anyone had a failed reconstruction surgery?
Just wondering if anyone has tried reconstruction again after a failed attempt? Everytime I think I may be ready to try again, I change my mind and decide it is not worth the risk and the chance of another failed surgery. My first attempt was a DIEP flap procedure which was a 11 hour surgery and the only other procedure I…

This Poem Reminds Me Of Libby
A poem for Libby A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world But then it flies again And though we wish it could have stayed... We feel lucky to have seen it.

Donations in Memory of Libby
I heard back from Libby's sister. One of the things I asked her was if they had set up a trust fund for Carlie. Here is her response: We have not set up a trust fund for Carlie, but have decided if anyone wants to make a donation in memory of Libby, that we would like them to go to Cancer Care Services, 623 S. Henderson,…

Breast lift question
I had a unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. Before reconstruction my plastic surgeon planned on doing a breast lift on the other side. When I went for follow-up he wasn't sure I needed one since there isn't a LOT of difference. My breast surgeon thinks I should have one still. I have the nipple reconstruction/breast…

BRCA2 With No Family History of Ovarian or Breast Cancer
Hi - I am 38 years old and was recently in shock to find out that I have the BRCA2 mutation. I have absolutely no family history of ovarian or breast cancer. I just had a baby. I would really prefer not to have a mastectomy. I have been told that my risk of the cancer has gone from 6% (general pop.) to 30-35%. I am…
