More tests and possibly more cancer
I was diagnosed with clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma that was removed in August. According to my doctor, that kind of renal cancer rarely spreads or recurs. I was really happy to hear that and was really hopeful that I'd never have to deal with this stuff again. I've still got some cysts that they will watch one…

Wife had partial left nephrectomy - got the pathology. Questions.
Hi, In June, my wife Laurie was having issues with back pain. The doctor at the time recommended physical therapy, which didn't seem to help, and a visit to a neurosurgeon, which basically told us "your back looks fairly normal for a 51 year old woman." The back pain became stabbing side pain, and a visit to our primary…

Interesting RCC trials with Bristol Meyers
I don't know if you saw this in the news yesterday, but I found it interesting: • Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY). A combination of two immunotherapy drugs of the company, Opdivo and Yervoy, cut the risk of death by 37 percent in a key group of kidney cancer patients, data from a closely watched clinical trial showed on Sunday.…

But between work and raising a soon-to-be 2-year-old, some things just fall through the cracks. I apologize for not being here more often. Cancer has once again reared it's ugly head in…

A bit of optimism
My husband is the one diagnosed with RCC with surgery last week. I happen to be a nurse working in assisted living (love gerontology) and often have cause to read through residents charts. Funny what is suddenly jumping out at me the last month.. out of 90 people, we have 3 that I am currently aware of living a good life…

Something weighing on me
This post has been brewing in my head for the last couple of days and I finally decided I wanted to post it. We all need to maintain a lighthearted mentality in the face of cancer. A good attitude and positive mindset go a long way. However, as someone that has spent my career in and as a professor of medical imaging, the…
