Back
Hello everyone and happy new year. I am coming up on 2 years cancer free. During my cancer I was constantly on here and there are a few members that I am enternally grateful too. Not only for their advice but their humanity. These people (and I still see they are here helping others) I hope I can help others in even the…

Prayers did the job
Just got back from dad's appointment and everything looks great. His tumors have reduced by over 80%. The only thing that showed on the scan was two spots in his lympe nodes. Everything else was clean. The doctor plans on doing 9 more rounds of the same and see what happens. The nurses seem to have their own treatment paln…

Radiation Ulcer
My husband is 6 months out from 37 radiation and 5 chemo treatments for SCC diagnosed in January for tumor on aryepiglottic fold and 2 lymph nodes. Around the 3rd month out of radiation they noticed an ulcer that formed in the left supraglottic region of his throat. The 2 lymph nodes and tumor have completely resolved.…

1st scope since treatment ended
Just got back from the first scope since treatment ended on 10-19-11 and dr said it looks good no mass on the tonsil, still inflamed though He scheduled a ct scan and said he will compare that from the first one and if all looks well he will see him in 4 months. I tried to say in not so many words are we ok and the dr said…

Scan Type and Frequency
I know this subject has been brought up before but I couldn't find the answer in previous posts. I would like to know what frequency scans are done post-treatment. Buzz has had scans every three months. Out of 5 scans, 3 have been PET scans which have shown increased activity in several areas. September's scan showed a…

Eating Habits
I have always been a carnivore but I think I am losing my appetite for meat. Not only does it taste dry due to the lack of saliva but it just isn't appealing. I wonder if I am a closet vegan. I have always liked most veggies but I don't think I could eat them and only them. Come to think of it I occasionally like fish and…

Liquid Recipes
Can anyone give me a list of...or a resource for recipes of decent tasting, high protein/calorie food. We have a commercial grade blender coming this week and my wife is so tired of Ensure Plus and Boost Plus. It is supposed to have a recipe book with it but I fear that it is more geared towards smoothies, etc. I have been…

Well so far my father has had 2 PET SCANS since his radiation and chemo ended back in August, and they both have been NED. I am soo elated I, i, I just am soo HAPPY! Too much saliva
When I had radiation in 2010, I started the fluoride soak and carried water everywhere. Now I have a trach, and had the lower right side of my mouth rebuilt and am on chemo. Swallowing because of the last surgery is tough. One of my biggest problems is too much saliva. I have a home suction machine that I stay close to.…

Hi all: Posted a new picture of Charlie that was taken several years ago. That's the first Sheltie we had (Smokey) getting a treat out of his pocket! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I went to Charlie's folks for Christmas. Mother-in-law got out of the hospital on Christmas Eve Day and doing pretty…

Altered taste buds
I am trying to get off the peg tube. March 3, 2011 was my first radiation/chemo treatment. At first things were way too sweet or too salty. Now I have no problem with sweets, can eat vegetables and dairy fairly well. However, it some foods seem to be really hot to the tip of my tongue and it doesn't have to be a spicy…

Arm pain question
Jim has started to have pain in his lower left arm, between the elbow and wrist. Could this be treatment related? Should we call the doctor and which, Rad, Chemo, ENT, GP. I know that arm pain can signal heart attach but I think that is uppet arm. Any help is appreciated. Jim is 7 months post treatment. Debbie

Still so sick
My husband finished treatment for a tumor on the base of his tongue with it in the lymph on either side. It has been 2 1/2 months and he is still not able to swallow so is still on a feeding tube. It makes him nauseas if the flow is to high so keeps it low, meaning he is not getting enough nutrition. Then he started to get…

Out with the old, in with the new
Just curious if anyone has new year's resolutions or ideas of what they would like to do different in 2012? I had my treatments in 2010 so spent the bulk of 2011 getting better and stronger. I believe last year was the worst and the best year of my life. I plan on joining a 24/7 gym in town to build back up my strength,…

Throat abscess
So the day after Christmas I ended up in the ER, at first they thought I had pneomia but after a CT scan and some poking around they found a abscess in the area where my left tonsil used to be. So this explains the horable smell that has been coming out of me the last month and also not being able to swallow. Two days on…

Weight Loss
Lots of talk about weight loss. How many people are satisfied with their loss? I for one lost about 15lbs and am now concentrating on keeping it off without losing much more. This puts me at a BMI of 23 which is where I want to be. This is the only plus to having scchn. Unfortunately now that I am starting to enjoy eating…

Another Surgery Down
It's never a good sign when the people in pre-op and recovery recognize you, but after four procedures in seven months what can you expect. Removed the hot spot that showed up on my tongue after the last surgery and the six month scans. The doctor took more than he planned, all in an effort to make sure it is all removed.…
