How many chemo regiments for CRC?
I guess what I am asking is, what's next? Pam was diagnosed with CRC w/mets to liver in Dec 08. She was started on Folfox 6 w/Avastin. At first it worked great and the scans revealed shrinking tumors. Then, the Avastin caused an elevated protein level in her urine (and she also had a k-ras mutation?) and she was taken off…

Node Out!
Dear Friends, You are the best. Kim, how kind of you to start the thread about ****. All of you, we have felt your thoughts and prayers all day. **** went into surgery at 10:00. He was in until 1:20. Dr. Genyk came out and said they got the node and margins looked good. As we thought, the node was positive for cancer. He…

Hello again....scanaxiety here!
Hi everyone! I just wnated to check in and let you know that even though I have not posted much, I read about what is going on with everyone. It has saddened me quite a bit of the amount of people that have lost this battle to cancer on here. Therefore, because of that, I have been putting extra energy into living life day…

Update and hospital stays
Hi All, We are at day 4 in the hospital. **** is doing well. Today he walked for 30 minutes, doing laps around and around the floor. They said he should go home (to my parent's house) on Tuesday morning. A few things I wanted to share about ****'s experience at USC. We have been very pleased with his care here. A few…

drained emotionally
I haven't posted much in a while since my surgery. Surgery was April 6th nad today is my first day back to work. I am really confused because they told me I am "cancer free" now, but they want me to do 6 months of chemo still as an insurance policy. Is this the standard protocol?

2 years ago today
My grandson, Andy was born. He has been the center of my recovery and faith in life. I knew something was up with me that day. I was already scheduled for a colonoscopy on the 20th. But for 4 blessed days I was a grandma (for the first time) and I could just hold him and breath in his glorious smell and kiss those rosey…

15 months
Just got results from my 15 month scan last Monday. Bloodwork getting better (liver enzymes) and my scan was clear. My oncologist said that 2 years was a good marker so I look forward to that (hopefully clean scan) but that 14 months was the median for those that recur in the first 2 years. So, I keep taking one day at a…

Relay For Life
What a wonderful day. Our daughter works for Delta and they had their own booth at the event. I was signed up as a walker from 11:00 to 12:00 but my stamina was so good I walked until 1:30. I have never been so energized and felt like I was really helping out for such a good cause until today. I bought several colon cancer…

Relay Report!
Last night was wonderful! There were so many people at the Relay for Life here. I was very proud to be able to help carry the survivor banner when we did our lap. That lap always makes me cry so much, because there are people lining the track clapping for us. There was a huge storm that came through after the luminaria…

concern about atropine
I recently started on a chemo regime of Irinotecan and Vectibix. During the last round of chemo they gave me atropine to slow down my gut as diarrhea is one of the major side effects of iriontecan. So far diarrhea hasn't been a problem for me but, my dr doesn't want it to become a problem, so the atropine. The problem is…

chemo holiday
Has anyone ever gone on a chemo holiday and what did that look like? I've been doing chemo for about 3.5 years. I was on folfox originally for 8 cycles. Then when recurrence happened I went on folfiri + Avastin,(12 cycles) then maintenance of xeloda and avastin for 10 months, then folfox and avastin for 8 cycles and now…

Another update to my husband's colonoscopy
To refresh - my husband had his first colonoscopy in March. They found 3 flat polyps that were removed and the biopsies showed no cancer, but that they were the type that could turn to cancer. They also found two "wierd" things that the doctor wasn't sure about. These were larger. He is pretty famous around here as a great…

I'm excited to be attending the Get Your Rear in Gear 5K on Sunday. I'll get a chance to meet a survivor from another board, and his wife. Question of the Day: Genetic Testing Kits. Would you take the test?
Would you take one of these Genetic Testing Kits to see if you were "at risk" for developing cancer or passing on some genetic disorder to your kids? I'm interested to hear what you all think of these. I'll have input later. Thanks -p News Story. There are plenty of related stories on the web, just Google "Genetic Testing…

Scan Results - Not what I was hoping for
I had my Pet Scan yesterday and got the results from the Pa today. It showed an increase in the size and number of the spots on my lungs. I am still trying to digest this. The spots in my liver were stable and everything else was stable. I started on Folfox in March of 09 and had a great response to that. I have been on…

Am I going to DIE?
As I prepare for the liver surgery and HAI pump install, I find myself with new thoughts of death from cancer. I have been at this battle for 18 months and up until now thought I was working toward a cure. As a stage IV cc with 3ea mets to the liver, it is just now sinking in that percentages are against me. Physically I…

Jim is having a hard time
His surgery was on the third and we're still in the hospital. (lots more detailed info on www.caringbridge.org/visit/jameskruse) We went home for one night and have been back ever since. He has some infection somewhere, not sure where. Thought it was a UTI then an abcess on his wrist, possibly staph in his port, now today…

Post chemo update
I've been away form the boards for a while, other than one quick check one day while we were gone. I really needed a break from all things "cancer." My husband and I went to our second home in Mexico, and it was just what I needed. My days weren't focused on medical appointments and cancer. They were focused on enjoying…

This time yesterday a year ago that dreaded phone call came with results of biopsy
After small talk, doctor uttered those three infamous words "you have cancer" and a whole bunch of words followed as my head spun continually like that girl in the Exorcist movie. The only other of the many words he spoke that day that I vividly recall was "colostomy". Well here I am, sitting on my sewn up ****, trusty bag…
