Pet Scan- Change in Plan

I met with my Onc yesterday to talk about my new plan. The PA had given me the results of my petscan last Thursday. It showed increase in size and number of lung nodules and everything else was stable. My Onc was out last week. He talked to the PA and she said that I would be starting Folfori .

My Onc wanted to see me on Mon to go over things with him in person. He said that he studied the Pet Scan and feels that the changes were very small and that the center of some of the mets looked lucid which is a good thing. He feels that I should remain on the Xeloda and Avastin for 6 weeks, then do a CT scan. He thinks that the CT is a better indicator for size.

I was totally shocked because I was expecting to start Folfori this week.

I was happy, but I am nervous too.

My Onc is going to call the Dr that I recently saw at Fox Chase. I went there for a consult and the doctor said that everything was going good with my local onc . We are going to send her a copy of the report to get her input.

I am happy to be on the Xeolda and Avastin for 6 more weeks. They have been very tolerable for me. I can finish the school year and go on my annual trip to the shore with my mother, sister and our kids. I am also nervous , thinking maybe I should have been put right on the Folfori. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster a lot of the time.

    Enjoy!
    Brenda,

I would trust the oncologist, I think. I know it makes you nervous, but that's what I would do.

    Brenda,
    I am glad things

    Brenda,

I am glad things worked out for you. The good news is you can keep folfiri in your back pocket if you need it later.

    Much Better...
    Brenda,

This will get you nicely through the end of the school year and into the summer. Hopefully the next scan will show improvement. But Hey! That is way in the future! Enjoy the now!

    Be well... Rob; in Vancouver.

    Great
Sounds like it was a good report. Glad that what you are on is working for you. A roller coaster is what cancer patients are used to - a never ending story. Sounds good though.

I get nervous too, thinking I might do the wrong thing, make the wrong decision, etc.
After many years of distrusting most doctors I have found that my oncologist cares, is truthful, and VERY educated...much more educated in cancer matters than I am. I hope you have the same type of oncologist...and if you do I hope you have a great time at the shore!!!

Thinking about you and wishing for the very best.

    Thanks everybody. You guys
Thanks everybody. You guys are the best. It is so great to have people that actually understand how you are feeling.

Of course, I am thrilled not be starting the folfori , but am concerned about the petscan showing increase in the lungs even if it was small.

I really love my onc. He is very intillegent and caring. He goes out of his way to help me. It is a small locally facility which does make me nervous at times. I have consulted with 3 major NCI in the last year.

I am going to try to enjoy right now. Which is not easy. The thoughts of the disease enter my mind at any given time. Especially 3 or 4 am.

I would love to have a whole day go by without any thought of this terrible disease.

Thanks for being such great friends. Brenda

I am so happy for you. If memory serves you have not been on Avastin that long so staying on a maintenance chemo with Avastin just may be the ticket for you. Reserve the other chemo treatments for now. Sounds like your oncologist is very thorough, stays on top of things, and has a good plan in place for you. George is on maintenance also, has been for a few months, so we will have to see how things are going for him when a scan comes up.

Enjoy the rest of the school year and your trip and quit worrying (or at least try to), things are under control, sounds like you have a good doc, let him do the worrying.

    Take care - Tina
