Insurance Frustration
Hi, I just returned from San Francisco today. Went over on Monday for a physical, tests and such while waiting for Ins. Co. approve my clinical trial procedures. There was only a few days window to start the trial otherwise wait a month. Waiting is not what I do best, especially when I know my little tumors are growing. My…

Not 1 node - 17 out of 19 ugh
Hi Friends, Well **** met with Dr. Lenz today (my mom was with him) and the good news is they tested 4 areas and 3 of them were cancer free. However, there were numerous lymph nodes involved 17 out of 19. In the report is said something like they were 15% active. They were all clustered together and the surgeon thinks he…

my daughter- updated- good news!
I didn't mention this in my other "fainting post", but we've also had a recent scare with our 10 year old daughter. About a week ago, Allison asked me "What do you think this weird bump on my leg is?" It's on the lower back side of her knee on the left leg. It feels about walnut sized and is very hard. Of course, my…

Oral FUOX (Xeloda?) vs. IV 5-FU
I'm new to this site and wondered if anyone had advice re: treatment with oral FUOX (is that Xeloda?) vs. IV 5-FU as a post-operative treatment for Phase IV rectal cancer. I've had rectum removed and liver resection and am getting ready to start adjuvant therapy. My oncologist says the two are equivalent in terms of…

Next weekend
After reading the terrible news about Pat today I wondered if we could have a roll call on Memorial Day weekend for all the members we've lost in the last year? I hope it wouldn't scare any new people, but for all they've helped we should remember these people at least once a year. We could also add friends and family that…

It's Been A While **Update**
It has been a month today since I posted with the news that my husband (CB) was told that his latest, and probably last chemo hope didn't work, and that he had a few weeks to a few months to live. Although we were understandably devastated, we continued on, making sure that he still met with his oncologist and regular…

What Would the Title of my Book Be?
The title of a book is so crucial in order to capture the reader’s attention. I’ve listened to what you have all said – I thank you for thinking enough of me and having confidence that I might could pull something like this off. On more than one occasion, I have received posts from you telling me that I should write a…

SAD
I don't mean the Standard American Diet either. I KNOW that I am guilty of this at times too, but many of us attack each other way too much. Face it, we have/had cancer (or are caregivers) and we EACH HAVE A DIFFERENT STORY. How much HELP are we actually giving any NEW people who happen to come here? Isn't that WHY we post…

A Very Fond Farewell
This is just a short note to let you know that I'll be taking an extended break from the boards. I've got some projects emerging and am hopefully returning to work later this summer. In the meantime I've got a few weddings to plan for and the occasional memorial to do. I'm also looking at facilitating a "Late Stage Cancer…

Abraxane and avastin
I started Abraxane with avastin this week. I'm taking Abraxane because research shows that it works well on those of us who have the Sparc protein overexpression. I was expecting a larger kick in the nads from it, but it has been fairly tolerable. About 75% of what folfox was. I'm hoping for good things. I spoke with the…

My Best Friend's Son
I sincerely hope you don't consider me an intruder, since it's not me I'm writing to you about. My best friend's son (age 42) has colorectal cancer, which was diagnosed toward the end of March 2010. By that time it had metastecised to his liver and the doctor said it was incurable. Because he has clinical depression, his…

I need your perspective here
Jim is so tired and not eating very much at all. I know it's normal after liver resection, but any suggestions on what I could offer him to eat? I'm making shakes with protein powder to help with the weight loss, but he's gone from 185 to 168 since surgery May 3rd. I remember someone saying how much it upset them when…

Hi Everybody --- Just found the board today. I already know it is going to prove very helpful to me and my family. Here is the issue --- My wife was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in January. Well the Quilt squares are starting to go-finally. Scans and family stuff slowed down the process, but they are finally hitting the post office. We could use some more help. I will send you the squares, you decide what to put on them, then send them back to me, I will make the quilt. I think the idea is to have it be a…
