My computer at home has a serious virus and I have not had time to take it in to get it cleaned. I see some have added hospice since then. My thoughts are…

For this or other stories of care, grief and loss, you can read more here: http://hoogenakker.net/?p=664 Teri’s dad, Don has a certain way around small kids. Whenever a toddler or baby was crying, no matter where we were, Don could take the baby up in his arms and within a matter of minutes, the baby was quiet and usually…

Can't Believe I am Here - AGAIN
I posted a few times here back in 2009 and 2010. This is our third go-round with throat cancer for my husband. He had chemo/rads in 2009, huge throat and flap resection surgery in 2010 for recurrence, and yesterday was diagnosed for the third recurrence. Ugh. We are waiting to find out course of treatment and for pet scan…

I hate cancer
When my husband was dx two and half years ago with Stage IV colon cancer with over 11 mets to his liver, I found these boards. I had never posted on a discussion board or been in a chat room before, but I was devastated and desperate for information. Immediately I was comforted by the wonderful people on the colorectal…

My first Valentine's Day without him
Well, I just spent my first Valentine's Day without my sweet husband... I guess I survived it ok. First thing was to visit my husband's resting place and give him some more flowers since it was a few weeks ago since I was there last. then I signed off on his car and went to the first Liver Cancer Support Group. Sadly I was…

Crocodile tears for Mark
Hello all, I went back to the time I first started posting on CSN to reread what I have wrote and all the great replies. I saved them to my computer to reflect on the Journey that my loving husband took in 2011. I still miss him so much. I have a journal that I write in daily to Mark. I constantly cry crocodile tears from…

hospice decision. . .toughest one yet . . .are there any good answers?
Hello - I am relatively new to the boards. My mom has been battling cancer for the last 15 months. On November 14th we admitted her into hospice care in her home. He goal at that time was to make it to Christmas. Her oncologist said she probably had three months before passing so we thought this would be a very doable goal…

My husband has Stage 3 Melanoma (was diagnosed in Feb last year) since then he has went through 2 surgeries, 6 weeks of radiaion, and is going through a year of interferon-alpha. Technically he is cancer free, but yet we still have a long road ahead of us with the cancer being caught at a later stage. (hopefully not, but…

A special thank-you note
I feel so special to have been missed here! But Mom's last couple of weeks were so intense that there was no time for computers. Then, after returning home from 10 weeks as 24/7 caregiver, I feel like I slept for a week. Mom passed away on January 19 after a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. If you would like to see her…

For us caregivers who are now just survivors, how do we explain to family and friends what we're fee
A short story that in a somewhat light fashion (and who can't use a little of that now and again?) will help you frame yourself and tell friends and family what you might be going through. The blog is heartfelt, powerful and a little edgy with some offbeat cancer humor because it we don't laugh we'll cry right? Anyway, here…

The importance of Caregivers...
Caregivers, I have written elsewhere that cancer is a family affair. The role of the caregiver is that of the unsung hero in a war that kills over a thousand people each day in America. The story is so sadly repeatable - the patient dies and is buried and that is a finality. On the other hand when the visitors leave, the…

Need Dana Farber Oncologist in Lymphoma
Hi, my mom, 65, was just diagnosed with stage 3 follicular lymphoma. She wants to be seen at Dana Farber. Anyone know a good oncologist there? I'm sure they're all good, but looking expecially for one a patient/family member would recommend as having a great bedside member. Thanks.

very overwhelmed right now
It didn't really hit me until today. Took mom who is 70 to chemo yesterday. She was on round 6 of how many we dont know. This is the 2nd time she has gone through chemo. First set of chemo she struggled(almost anaphalyxis state) with the taxol so they give it to her really slow takes about 4 hours to get it in her. So this…

My husband of over 40 years is in the final months of his life. He's at home under Hospice support - he has tumors in his brain, lungs, trachea, and adrenal glands. Valuable resource to share - Caris LifeSciences "Target Now" screening
Hello everyone, I wanted to share an extremely valuable resource that is helping guide my mother's Stage 4B uterine cancer chemotherapy treatment. Most important for everyone to know is that this was NOT something that was provided by her oncologist. My two sisters and I had to research this testing/profiling ourselves and…

Reflections of 2011
I have a journal that I write in daily. I started it the day after my husband passed away. I never go back and read what I wrote except for January 1, 2012. I read it to the grief counselor that comes over once a week because she asked me to share it. I would like to share it with all of you. "Sunday 1/1/12: Well the worst…
