Was recently diagnosed with stage 3A colon cancer, had surgery and needed an ostomy. About to begin folfox chemo treatments after the new years. We have one bathroom with a single shower-tub unit. Is it safe for my spouse and children to shower after me while I have chemo attached to port and I am using the same shower? Is…

Hi - I am currently diagnosed with colon cancer. I have just had my surgery and now moving on to Chemo treatment. I had a choice of CAPEOX or FOLFOX. I am wondering if anyone can share their experience? I understand that for FOLFOX, a port needs to be implanted for the infusion. For CAPEOX, a port is not needed. But I am…

I'm a "survivor"?
Was diagnosed with rectal cancer in Feb '21. Felt like I died that day and I still haven't recovered. Trying to figure out how to be a survivor after everything that's happened in the last (almost) 3 years. At this point I've lost literally everything but my life, car, and a few possessions. I can't do this alone anymore.…

Ketagenic diet
My oncologist was talking to me yesterday about a "ketogenic" diet -- which (as I understand it) is high fat/protein, low carbs. It's a very old idea for fighting cancer -- and similar to Atkins or South Beach for weight loss, I believe. But apparently there is some new research coming out now, especially from some German…

Pet scans
I’ve had two primary cancers, breast and now s4 lung cancer requiring quarterly ct or pet scans. After about a year of an area in my colon showing persistent focal uptake, my oncologist insisted I have a colonoscopy. Thankfully it was only an advanced precancer, 1.1 cm tubulovillious, fully resected, clear margins, but the…

Would you?
I am 81 years old. I tested positive for slight blood in my stools. I hate having a colonoscopy because of the prep. I know that the efficiency of screening declines at the age of 75 and is not even recommended at the age of 85. I will not get radiation, nor chemo therapy. Is there even a need to pursue it?

9 Years NED Today
Hi all, I've been away and/or occupied most of this summer, so I haven't been by to check on the blog, for what has been the longest period I can recall. Tubulovillous adenoma question
All, in 2019, my gastroenterologist removed a 2cm flat polyp from rectum that was classified as a Tubulovillous adenoma. I know this is a benign polyp but does have a 20% -40% chance of becoming malignant (different % depending on sources). Due to the pandemic and life issues, I did not have another colonoscopy until last…

Help me understand
My colorectal cancer went from early (stage 0) to stage IIIc. So all my trust and faith in Mercy medical care has been used up. But their overly optimistic feeling oncologist tried to sell me 80% odds of complete recovery and my own research says 44% odds of complete recovery. I also feel like Mercy would say literally…

A TRUE LOVE STORY
People always talk about true love stories, most of them being fiction, but this is mine and it is true. My name is John and I want to talk about my and my wife's battle with cancer, how it affected both of our lives and how our faith was not broken at all. I met Gail at McDonalds in Winston-Salem, NC where we both lived…
