After opening me up they decided it was…

Update
I enjoyed a wonderful 6 mos remission but have been battling bowel obstructions the last 3 weeks. Mostly in the hospital with NG tubes! Ugh! So the plan now is to send me home on TPN and have chemo to shrink the cancer and open blockages. I really think things are getting better but am afraid to take a chance without the…

Been absent for awhile
except for posting on someone else's thread. Have felt crappy since I started chemo on May 7th but even worse since chemo on June 25th. I had to skip my scheduled chemo on July 18th because I had diarrhea for five days, extreme fatigue and low blood counts; platelets were 58 and neurophils were 4. I am anemic and…

scan
So I had a follow up with my oncologist after having a ct scan and was declared cancer free. That is the best thing to hear so relieved. My doctor brought up the subject of genetic testing especially for breast cancer now that I have had ovarian cancer. He told me that if it comes back positive I should consider having a…

Genetic testing
Today after nine long months my mom got a good word from the doctor "No evidence of cancer" I haven't been this happy in such a long time. Genetic testing was first brought up by her surgeon and I was all for it. It was again brought up today and it really kind of scared me this time, he was saying things like "double…

Just got home from the Teal run
You were all there with me! 700 runners this year, all decked out in teal or their own team shirts. My Onc is a runner and he and his whole office participate. If you have any of these events near enough to your homes, I hope you'll try to attend. I met so many survivors and their families. I spoke to one husband whose…

I have chemo
at eleven today. I haven't recouped from the last one on May 29th. I still feel tired and when I try to do anything I have hot flashes or cold sweats. My blood work from yesterday improved but some of the red blood counts are still low and one white blood count is at the minimum. I didn't hear from the doctor so I guess I…

chemo update
I am done.....again! Decided against the maintenance clinical trial. I would have to have anoyher infusion of Taxol. My neuropathy is already bad and that would make it worse and permanent according to my oncologist. Plus with my luck I would get taxol in the study instead of the no side effect drug. My doctor said that…

the Acid-alkaline Myth
One of the first things a cancer patient will hear from people giving them advice beyond conventional treatment is that they need to keep their body alkaline, with diet and alkaline water. The science, however, does not support this concept: http://chriskresser.com/the-ph-myth-part-1…

Just looking for advice...
I am four days out from chemo and feel horrible. How do you ladies cope? I don't want to eat or drink. I feel so sick. The time drags. I just want to sleep it off but only do that in spurts. Thankfully I slept well last night so I didn't have to be awake those long, lonely hours. I have so much to be happy about but right…

The Cancer Ward is a semi-autobiographical novel by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, first published in 1967, and banned in the Soviet Union in 1968. The novel tells the story of a small group of terminal patients in the hospital "cancer Wing # 13" in 1955 in the post-Stalinist Soviet Union. This is not an easy beach read by any…

I have been having a conversation with Iceman about our similar-looking pets, and I thought it might be a nice, lighthearted topic for the rest of the board. Tell us about your pet! This is my Hugh Jackman. He came to live with us the day I learned I had cancer. Didn't need a dog; wasn't looking for a dog; can't say I…
