"The Cancer Ward" recommended reading
The Cancer Ward is a semi-autobiographical novel by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, first published in 1967, and banned in the Soviet Union in 1968. The novel tells the story of a small group of terminal patients in the hospital "cancer Wing # 13" in 1955 in the post-Stalinist Soviet Union. This is not an easy beach read by any…

Pets
I have been having a conversation with Iceman about our similar-looking pets, and I thought it might be a nice, lighthearted topic for the rest of the board. Tell us about your pet! This is my Hugh Jackman. He came to live with us the day I learned I had cancer. Didn't need a dog; wasn't looking for a dog; can't say I…

Neuropathy
How bad is your neuropathy and how do you handle it? I quit IP chemo after four and a half rounds because of neuropathy in my hands and feet. My oncologist was afraid it would become permanent if I continued. He was convinced I had enough, scans are 100 percent clear and my ca125 is 6. But the oncologist/gynecologist who…

The beast is back!
Was six months into my second remission. (CA 125 in May was 16.) Had a great weekend and golfed 36 holes and took a trip to go to a funeral. Had a good dinner Monday night and got up nauseated on Tuesday. Off to ER and the CT showed partial bowel blockage and the yucky NG was placed. My CA was 83! Was given the choice of…

New Endpoints Proposed for Chemotherapy in Ovarian Cancer?
Quality of life (QoL) and symptom benefit should be accepted by clinicians and regulators as additional coprimary endpoints in clinical trials of chemotherapies for platinum-resistant and refractory ovarian cancer, according to a group of experts. These measures are "the most important aims of treatment" in these patients…

Just when I thought it was over my oncologist is encouraging me to join a clinical trial for a maintenance dose of taxol for one year. There goes my hair again! I would get low dose IV taxol once a month, or a new and improved taxol with fewer side effects, or nothing as the control group. Has anyone heard of this or is on…

Worthwhile Quote.
Thought this quote was worthwhile sharing and applied to the discussion board. "Some of the most comforting words in the Universe are "ME TOO". That moment when you find out that your struggle is also someone else's struggle, that you're not alone, and that others have been down the same road." ~Unknown~

Misinformed Headlines.
Today a headline in the paper stated that Christine H. had died after losing a long battle with ovarian cancer. When a pedestrian is run over by a truck we don't read -pedestrian killed after losing battle with a 10 ton truck! When cancer comes into our life it is like a home invasion, or an invasion by a force that…

Ok. I'm not sure why the original post was deleted, perhaps the powers that be who deleted it could enlighten me? Here we go again. Low platelets delays Doxil treatment.....again
Platets were only 69 for scheduled doxil treatment. He said we'd check it every week and "wait it out" as we did last time. He had reduced the dosage by 20% last time. He said that this is not at all unusual with as much chemo as I've had over the past nearly two years. He said he would reduce the the dosage more next…
