Back to normal!?
Hi everyone, I went back to work yesterday! I was pretty tired by the end of my shift (nursing assistant in a nursing home), but I made it. I have two more days to go, then I get a couple off. Hopefully I can make all three days of this set. It's nice to get back to normal, and in two months I get insurance through my…

Update on therapy for extending remission period
I finished my chemo today!! CA-125 from last week was 6 and a CT scan is scheduled for January. Got a statin prescription from my internist after I gave him some info from my research on their anti-cancer properties. I loved the price - $10 for a hundred tablets. My oncologist and I discussed using anti-estrogen therapy…

Wishes
Hello to All my Friends here on the board.....Well, I had my surgery last Tuesday at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. That hospital is one of the best I have ever been in. Everyone takes the time to answer questions. And the views at night are awesome. I met many other cancer patients, heard many stories. I have an incision from…

More Cancer and No Chemo
We were home early from my Dr visit at the U and chemo was cancelled because of the allergic reaction I had last time. They said it would only get worse and my air passages would swell shut on me. Plus my ca125 went up again and the ct-scan showed that not only did the previous areas grow but there was new tumor growth. My…

Any further treatments during remission period?
Hi all, I wanted to ask everyone how their oncologist handles their period of remission. I am nearing (hopefully) the end of my first 6 cycles of chemo and I am wondering if I should ask my oncologist about a couple of medications I have researched on the net. I am wondering if I should take these medications to extend my…

New Here
Hi all, I have already received so much encouragement from reading your posts. You are such heroic women! I am 48 years old. I was diagnosed on November 7th with Stage 2 OvCa. I was going in for what was supposed to be a 1 hour laproscopic to remove my ovaries and fallopian tubes, which turned out to be a 5.5 hour total…

To you I say, may you find peace and hope regardless of your…

Wishing each and everyone a Blessed and Peaceful Christmas
Hey girls! It's been a while since I've been here. I didn't realize that it had been so long until I began reading the postings. Boy have I been out of touch. My daughter-in-law opened a little sandwich shop in October and I help her out a couple of hours a day Tues.-Fri. Our youngest son who is stationed in Germany with…

Fluid retention after finishing chemo
Hi everyone, Just when I thought I was going to be done for awhile, I ran into a new wrinkle. Has anyone else had trouble with fluid retention/swelling a couple of weeks after finishing a set of taxol/carbo? I felt worse on my 6th treatment than on any of the previous ones, more nausea, aches, etc. That one was three weeks…

Just found this site today
I had a TAH on November 3,2008 for Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. I had an IP port inserted three weeks later and started chemo treatments on December 9th and 10th. I received IV taxol over a period of 24 hours on the 9th and IP cisplatin on the 10th. I was supposed to go outpatient on the 16th for IP taxol but my doctor…

Port?
I am such a horrible source of good veins that they decided to put a port in. This will happen before my next chemo in three weeks. Anyone have a port? Anything I should know about this?

Update on Joanne
Hello ladies, I know I haven't been on the board alot lately,I have not been feeling up to much of anything lately. I'm currently on Navelbine, which is by far the worse chemo I have ever been on!! As a matter of fact I told the Onc I needed off for a bit to regain some strength and weight. Since this remission was only 9…

Could it be OC or just my imagination running wild again???
Hello, new to the OC posting but unfortunately not new to this site. I'm a 2-1/2 year breast cancer survivor. Was diagnosed with Stage 1 BC in Feb, 2006 - spent 1-1/2 years in treatment and have been doing okay except for a few scares and nervous doctor checkups, etc...the usual paranoia after anyone has been diagnosed…

Worried about a diagnosis...
My sister is an ovarian cancer survivor of almost 6 years now. She was diagnosed with a germ cell cancer at the age of 24 and during the past 6 years underwent numerous surgeries to remove the cancer and eventually have a full hysterectomy. Last year there were pre-cancerous cells found in her breast and so she took the…

Good check for me, not for my friend
Hi everyone! First the good stuff. My CA-125 is 11.3, WOOHOO and AMEN. Monday I will see the Gyne-onc and get the next 3 month pass. January 7th will be one year since diagnosis. I met a great lady through my doctor who helped me through peritoneal taxol and cisplatin. She had just completed the treatment when I started.…

Hair hassles
My hair started falling out last Thursday. It all happened so fast, and a lot was coming out. Like many on here, I ended up shaving it all off (on Tuesday.) Unfortunately, my insurance company is being a pain in the butt. They told me I could not get a wig unless my PCP preauthorized it...they would not accept the…

New test for early detection early stage OVCA?
Hi ladies, anyone know of this test? My friend in England is having recurrent breast cancer and would like to get this test. Her doc in England has told her/alluded to the fact that this is available in the States. Anyone know anything, or where to find out? She is going to NY in Jan and would like to get it. She doesn't…

relief from Doxil rash
My sister is about to have her 2nd treatment of Doxil. I'm glad I found this site because I was able to tell her the rash she has is normal. She tried aloe (broke a piece off the plant and rubbed it on) and she said it worked great and the rash is going away. It took away the itch also.

Newly Diagnosed
Hello Ladies...Well, I don't know if any of you will remember me, but I will recap briefly... I joined the forum way back in 2005 for my Mom who had end stage ovarian cancer. I was her caregiver for the 18 months she survived. Last October I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Took care of it via a lumpectomy, and 36…

CA125 inching back up
CA is inching back up. Going in for a PET/CT today. WIll get the results on December 2nd. Doc suspects a recurrence, but has to confirm with the scan. Am nervous, but trying to stay calm, restful and at peace. Knowing so many of you have been through this and are still here is so reassuring to me. Kathleen in Japan

White Count
Well, I still cannot take Hexalen as this time my count was 2.5. I have not had chemo since August 4th and only had one cycle of Hexalen from October 20-November 2. So you would think by now my white count would be normal. I was to start Hexalen for 2nd cycle November 17th, but until my white count is a 3 or higher she…

Had Chemo
Hi Everyone, not sure if I posted or not but I did get the Oxaliplatin a week ago. Some very weird side affects but also an allergic reaction. Brac Analysis
I did have my check up today. My white count (had blood work this morning) is still too low for Hexalen on Monday, but will get blood work again Sunday. My doctor actually told me I am doing very well and could take the Hexalen the Monday after Thanksgiving as it is more preventive, so I asked if I was in remission and she…

anyone know
my mom was dx with stage 3c ovarian cancer. She also ruptured her colon from diverticulitis. had surgery and chemo. now 2 months after last chemo they accidentally saw something on her lower lung and adrenal gland. Sent her for PET. Does this sound like the cancer returned from ovary or new case of lung cancer. nothing in…

Blood Work
I got my blood work Monday and my results came in the mail this morning. After my first cycle of Hexalen, most of my CBC counts are even lower (white, hematocrit, platelet, red, etc) then they were after carbo/taxol and 5 are higher. But my CA125 is 6.5! My hemaglobin is normal. So I guess Hexalen is mighty potent too. I…

Doctor's Report
Ladies, I had my appt. with the oncologist yesterday and my CA-125 was up from 50 to 83. I am going to continue the Femara (anti estrogen pill) for another month and see the gyn/onc. on 12/10 for a consult. Found out that it takes at least 6 weeks for any change caused by the pill. Hurry up and wait, wait, wait. Other…
