Surgery went well
I had my debulking surgery on 6/21/10 and it went well. My surgeon said he removed 95% of the cancer. I had a complete hysterectomy with omentum and apendix also removed. I have been home for three weeks. I did not expect to be in such pain for so long. I had a caesarian in 1980 and gall bladder removed in 1990 and feel I…

Mother Joan has Questions
Mom received her Doxil late Wednesday afternoon and she was very tired Thursday and was able to do what she had to do. Today (Saturday) she says she wasn't even up for taking the dog for a walk. Today she's been a bump on the log...she wants to know how long this will last. Secondly, she has not had any mouth sores, no…

PRAYERS & HUGS TO BONNIE: UPDATE ON BONNIE
This is from Caring Bridge, in case some of you don't check Bonnie's journal. 'Spent the day at the U with Mom. Bit of a rough start this morning but by evening she was doing much better. We found out her hemoglobin was around 7 and platelets were around 24 which explains why she has been so tired. They ordered 2 pints of…

Libby, did you get the doxil or parp?

Out of breath when I walk
Anybody else experience this? Ever since I started Taxotere/Avastin I am so out of breath. My oncologist ordered a lot of cardiac test and it's not my heart. It seems that even when I just get up and walk a little distance I get out of breath. Although when I go swimming it doesn't seem to affect me. What gives? I will…

Choosing NOT to treat
I decided decades ago, after watching several generations of women die of cancer, that I would not be treated when (not if) I developed cancer. That decision has never wavered; what I've seen since has made me more determined and content with my choice. So here I am. But it turns out that doctors don't particularly…

Dear Meghan
Meghan, I don't know how often you are checking in on the web site but I wanted to start a thread for you so you could come here and have messages from people who care about you and loved your Mom. I am so sorry for your loss. No one should have to lose their mother at such a young age. Please know that your mother loved…

Surgery a week away
I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on April 15th, 2010 when I went in to surgery to have a hernia repaired. I am 63 yrs old and had just retired from a job I held for 30 years. I have had 3 chemo treatments and now my hysterectomy is scheduled for July 20th. I tolerated the chemo very well and after 2 treatments my CA-125…

Anyone on Doxil?
I just came across this.....a study that indicates Prozac taken in conjunction with Doxil can boost the effectiveness of the chemo drug. Since the doctors often push antidepressants on us anyway, why not ask for Prozac if you are prescribed Doxil treatment?…

Ringing the bell
My Mom was diagnosed with stage 3a ovarian cancer in February of this year. She had surgery at the end of Feb and the Dr's said they got all of the cancer. She finished her last, 6th, treatment today. My sis just sent me a pic of her "ringing the bell" before she left MD Anderson. She does go back in a month to have her…

My little alien....
Saw my gyn/oncologist and got my (I think) number 5 maintenance (aka consolidation) chemo. I introduced him to my little alien - the abdominal hernia that was recently diagnosed by my PCP. My PCP referred me to a surgeon - a referral I ignored until I could ask my oncologist if I could have the surgery without interrupting…

Support NOCC and maybe President Obama, A. Jolie, others will eventually notice
I've read several of the statements about celebrities and their link to our cancer and unfortunately what seems to be a lack of involvement. Obviously we can't connect to those people personally but we can help suppport NOCC. If you go to the website you can find out how to contact your state rep/senators to help pass…

MSFANCIFUL and any others who wouldn't mind sharing their docs' plans for their cancer
Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've been on this site. I'm here for my sister who was dx Stage III in April 2008. She's currently undergoing her third type of chemo--Doxil this time since January. Up until April it was really working for her. Then her CA-125 only went down 7 pts, in May they went up 36 pts. I was…

CT Scan
I saw my oncologist today and asked when I would be getting a CT scan done... She said they are typically done one year after finishing chemo (unless there are symptoms or a rise in CA 125). Has anyone had them done sooner than one year? I know the exposure to radiation is not good, but I would feel so much better having a…

anxiety
Linda Dorian's passing really has sent me into an emotional tailspin. I am so scared. I feel like nobody in my family understands. Family get to go on with their normal lives while I am stuck in my nightmare. I've been on chemo since January and nothing has made my cancer regress. I've only more advancement. My ca125 in…

Happy dancing all over the place
I had a colonoscopy today and they found nary a thing - not even a polyp. This is the first one I have ever had that I did not have multiple polyps. Yay me! My gastro doc, whom I have known for 20 years, said, "Come back in five years and don't be late. I don't want you making me think the worst." And even…

Chemo curl is here !
I finished chemo in January of this year...my hair started growing back in March. At first it was very straight (which is how my hair has been all my life), but in May it started getting very curly ! People keep asking me if I've gotten a perm ! too funny. I've read about chemo curl but wasn't sure if it was real or a…

Unable to have surgery...
My wife and I are new to this site but found it VERY insperational and helpful. We have a "bizarre" situation (so say the docs). My mother-in-law, Vicki, was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarion cancer in February. She had 4 round of chemo since and just recently had to stop it - the cancer spread "officially" into the lining of…

DEAREST MEGHAN
I am so, so sorry to hear that your mother has passed away. We shared many personal emails and developed quite a friendship across the miles. Not to mention her wonderful posts here, and how many lives she has touched. I wish I could ease your pain, and be there to help you cope during this difficult time. I am glad to…

Angelina Jolie, where are you?
I read in this morning's Parade magazine that Angelina Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of Ovarian Cancer at age 56. The superstar was very close to her mom, so I am a bit dismayed that she has not lent the weight of her fame to raising money and awareness for this terrible disease. I have read, of course, of…

Healthy Breasts!!
Thought I'd change my profile picture as after 3 months post chemo my hair is growing back nicely and reflects my life at the moment. I have just had a lovely holiday in the Canary Islands (Fuerteventura) and was unable to resit getting a sun tan. I know I was supposed to wear SPF 50 but I couldn't help myself and used SPF…

CA-125 stalled?
Mom had 3 carbo/taxil treatments and they did a cat scan and physical exam and determined tumor had not shrunk enough for surgery. Now she's had another 3 chemos (3rd one today). CA-125 went from 700 down to around 150 quickly, but now the trend has really slowed down (127, 116, 114). In two weeks she is due for another…
