12 year survivor
I just recently celebrated my twelve year cancer free anniversary from stage 3C ovca and wanted to share with all of you. There are longterm survivors, not without side effects, but survivors nontheless. I think of all of you fighting for your lives and remember being there, and want you to know you are never forgotten. I…

what does the doctor really mean?
I don't get it. Our friend Gerri, has finally been dianosed. After a couple months of saying peritoneal cancer, her debulking surgery and labs confirmed stage 4 ovarian. Gerri has lost 40 pounds since she first starting feeling "off" in November. The tumor was fast growing. It was not seen on any scan in December and by…

What does ascites pain feel like?
I don't know if I have it but I've been off chemo for a long time now and I have terrible pain in my midsection right above the belt line and below. It's been almost a week now. I have gas and a bit of constipation too. Could this be ascites? I don't know what it feels like as I don't think I had it before. Thanks, Kate…

Hiccups after chemo
Does anyone notice that they have "attacks of hiccups" after chemo? I do. I am especially interested in hearing from people with PPC or stage 3-4 OC. Just wondering if this is common or just me...I can't find any information on the Internet about the phenomenon. thanks, Carolen

Problems posting on discussion board
I just wonder if I should stop trying to post or if nobody is meant to read my postings--I have had several disappear and I lack the motivation to re-post. Could it be a problem with AOL? thanks, Carolen

Question for Linda (clamryn) Not sure if I got it right, sorry
Hi Linda, I read your note to Nancy I have a question for you. I, too, am on Avastin and what I'd like to know is what blood thinner are you on? Is it Coumadin? I was on Coumadin previously and since I've been on Avastin, the dr. told me I had to go on Fragmin, an injectable blood thinner. Have you experienced any problems…

Getting back into life
I started feeling sick around this time last year. I was sick all through February, went to the doctor on 2/26 and finally received my diagnosis on 3/16. After that the time was filled with doctors appointments, treatments and feeling sick (you know the drill). I feel like I really missed nine months of last year. I missed…

cause of rising liver levels
I just got off the phone with my oncologist. There was a big discussion about my scan and other doctors were asked to look at it. It appears I developed blood clots in the vessles leading into my liver. The cause of this is the Avastin. I will be starting on a blood thinner. It is uncertain if I will be receiving Avastin…

My Mom just had a "septum" port inserted yesterday.
Does anyone have one, and why do doctors opt for a port of that kind, as opposed to the other I have seen? I learned with a septum port the skin still has to be punctured and this bothers me because my Mom has been poked and proded enough!!!! :(

Visualization and Prayer
Comes from Getting Well Again by George Simonton: Think of cancer as weak and disorganized crazy cells. Chemo as strong soldiers battling crazy cells. Vision it over and over again. Chemo carries the dead cancer cells out on little stretchers...... I'd like to believe that anything we do to dress ourselves in armor for the…

Thank you all for this educational experience
I was really excited when I discovered this discussion board. I learned so much through my cancer experience, not the least of which was how to manage this disease; how to make educated decisions regarding choices that were available to me; how to be my own best advocate; as well as how to more fully appreciate my life. I…

Weaving a Few Threads on a Sleepless Night
Last week, three people I know died. Sarah, a 28-year old newlywed (sarcoma); Max, my family doctor of 50 years; and Kara, a 45-year old neighbor, who accidentally drowned in her backyard pool. Kara was in her workout clothes, early AM, evidently cleaning something on the patio, and fell into the icy-cold water. Her…

I'm new with a port and have a question
Last year I finally gave in and decided to get a port at my local hospital. For years, I didn't want one but my veins couldn't take it anymore. I like my port but have a question. Has anyone had any problems with their ports tilting, as the nurse told me, mine was "tilted". I told her that I thought it happened in January…

1st good news to report in AGES: My CA125 dropped 200 points after 1st round of Avastin/Cytoxin!
Today I had my 3rd Avastin infusion, but don't have the results yet of the CA125 labs I had taken just prior to it. But I did get my labs taken last week just before my 2nd Avastin infusion, and my CA125 is down 200 points after the 1st round of Avastin/Cytoxin. I know that Avastin can cause your CA125 to go up and down…

Do something....what's the worst that can happen?
Dr Sabittini thinks I am more pro-active and have better computer skills than a lot of his patients. He says I underestimate my ability to advocate for myself. Maybe. But if I can do it, so can the rest of you. If your computer skiils aren't all that great, recruit someone to help you. The government website for clinical…

Sometimes I feel her slipping away
Over the last two weeks my mom has lost 6 lbs. She has now gone from 135 lbs to 88 lbs. The doctors say don't get caught up in the numbers such as CA 125 levels (Mom's lowest is 3,300) but it is so hard not too. The doctors changed her meds two weeks ago and other then the acid reflux medication i don't feel like they are…

I think I am done.
Got my scan back. I guess I failed first line treatment. It is in my liver and brain. I had radiation on my brain today. Next week they decide which second line to do for the liver. Guess, I better get my house in order. I am pretty shocked, being that I thought I was doing well. Then a few days ago, my arm and leg went…

Rash from Doxil
I have received 3 doses of Doxil. I was warned of a rash that could appear on my feet, hands or sores in my mouth. So far I have had none of these but I have a terrible (sunburn like) rash under my arms, under my breasts, and now on the trunk of my body and around my waist. I wore loose fitting clothing as I was told for a…
