OK ~ PET ~ Now It's Official
OK, thanks to all for your thoughts, prayers and concerns. This afternoon around 2:00PM, I did pick up the results from my PET scan I had yesterday morning. This was my 4th post Tx PET scan since finishing up treatment in June 2009. So far I can't really say the scanxiety gets much better...well I'm sure my first few were…

5 Rads Down...
Hello my fellow warriors, I am now through the first 'week' of radiation and all I can say is, WOW. All of you that have come THIS far, you are my heros and you will give me strength to make it through the next 5 weeks, cause there is NOTHING fun about this at all. Knowing that it really only gets worse too, does not make…

2 WEEK POST RAD CHECK IN
Heres where I'm at: - vision seems to have cleared up - energy level a little better. Made it through a tile buying excursion to home depot without needing a nap when I came home. - lemon sized lymph node is down to size of a pecan. Still a little nervous. - seems to be an increase in watery saliva. Less foamy and I can…

Muscle Spasms
Hi all. I am now about 6 weeks post-op and starting my first week of Radiation. In the last week or so, I have been experiencing muscle spasms that will result in my arm or leg tossing itself out of a resting position. Very weird? I also have been getting cramping in my muscles around the heel up to my calf...very similar…

Still kickin!!!
Hello everyone! I haven't been on here for a very long time, which is good because that means I've been busy living again! Just a quick refresher: I was diagnosed with Metastatic Squamos Neck Cancer with Occult Primary in my right tonsil which had spread to all of my right lymph nodes and my left tonsil on December 1st,…

Infusion port troubles
Here's something that I've not seen posted to these boards. I have an infusion port that developed a clot in my jugular vein. I've been prescribed an inject-able anti coagulant, two self administered shots a day for two weeks and then 6 months on anti coagulant pills. I was not told that clots could be a complication and…

Saliva question
Hello All, I have a question for anyone who can answer. I am 8 weeks out today from my last rad. Up until a few days ago I had very little saliva but my mouth wasn't desert dry like it sometimes is in the morning. A few days ago I started feeling super dry. For instance I couldn't even moisten the seal on an envelope by…

What can I eat at this point?
Hi everyone, I need some advice, I've gotten my throat dilated out to 9 mm and the doc said I could start eating soft foods. Problem is he couldn't or wouldn't give me any guidance as to what that would be. Has anybody else been at this point? What would anyone suggest that I start eating. I'm afraid to go too fast too…

advice needed
Monday is Jim's CT. We are debating on canceling it and going to our local cancer center for second opinion on the lung cancer. We are now an hour away from the original oncologist and the drive makes Jim super stressed. Jim original decided to not recieve any further treatment (erbatox being the only option) because he…

FIRST FOLLOWUP APPT WITH ENT SINCE TREATMENT
Went to see my ENT today for first visit since completing treatment. He said everything looks good, throat and tongue still swollen but improving. Said he didn't see anything abnormal or feel anything so he was happy. Of course so was I. See him again in 3 months. See the radiation oncologist Sept 11th and will have pet…

DONE!!!
THIS JUST IN!!! Met with chemo doc today. Had an in depth discussion and did the math regarding how many mg of chemo I've received. End result... I'm done with the chemo!!! He said I've already received more than the dosage which has proven to be effective and since my radiation is complete, there's really no compelling…

First PET after treatment
I had my first PET scan after treatment yesterday, and got the results today. There are a few "hot spots" where I had radiation, but no sign of cancer. My doctor called it "a clean scan." Thanks again to everyone here. This would have been SO MUCH harder without you guys! I know it's the first scan of many but it's a great…

PET Scan
It's that time again, how these 3 months fly by, next PET/CT is scheduled for Sept 4th. After a clean PET in March, a clean PET in June, and my persistance all along with ENT, ONCO & RAD Dr's to find out the small spot on the left side of the tongue was scc, but too small for the pet to pick up,and not related to the…

ACID Vs ALKALINE
While there is always argument over veracity of whether our body pH state (Acid/Alkaline) affects our health, this post is to find if anyone has tested themselves and also monitored change. I was told for many years I was very 'acidic' i.e my bodies pH was very low 5.0 to 6.0. Neutral is 7.0 so above 7.0 is Alkaline and…

Best treatment for Epiglottis Cancer
Hello Everyone, My father was recently diagnosed with cancer of the epiglottis. The doctors are saying that he has stage 1 cancer, but could go up to stage 3 if they find lymph nodes infected. The doctors are currently suggesting surgery, but people I spoke with are saying we should go for radiation. The doctors are saying…

7 long wks-over
Wife finished her last radiation yesterday and chemo past Monday. Glad it's over but the last week has been the roughest she has faced. I feel fortunate to be among the living --I hid the dangerous weapons. Mouth sores/mucous seem to be major culprits along with some pain. On fentenyl low dose (12) with a hydrocodene boost…

Dry mouth and pain medications
Since a common side effect of the most frequently prescribed pain medications such as Vicodin (lortab/hydroco) and Percoset (Oxycodo) is a dry mouth, has anyone experimented with alternatives to see how it might impact the loss of saliva? I had a lung biopsy a year ago (fortunately not a cancer issue) and was prescribed…

Eating when you have no saliva
I'm 7 weeks out of rads, my sense of taste has returned, sweet and salt are normal, sour is off the charts and bitter a close second, but I think they're that way as there is no saliva generating at present. Sour causes the saliva glands to flood the mouth to dilute sour and make it tolerable, but with no saliva, the sour…

How long?
So I realize the answer will be different for everyone but I am curious how long I should expect to have swelling/inflammation from radiation. I actually went to see a friend of mine who is a physical therapist last week because I felt like the swelling had gotten worse and I was concerned about lymph not draining…

tooth ache
My husband had a severe toothache last night. It's on the left/top side towards the back.It started to radiate up the side of his head. He took 3 vicodins and 2 ibuprofen and the pain finally went away. I wonder if this is decay or bone deteroitation. It was not a throbbing pay.
