Possible Reoccurence of Throat Cancer
I've had a sore throat, cough, transference ear pain, etc. since August. When I went to see my ENT in August, she said I had scar tissue problems and see her back in a year. Fortunately, I didn't wait a year and scheduled a new appointment which was yesterday. My ENT is on Adminstrative Leave (?), so I had a new doctor who…

Help appreciated! 22 and freaking out
Hello everyone, I stumbled upon this website when doing some research online. When I clear my throat I've been spitting blood for the past 4 or 5 months almost. I went to an ENT around that time, and he dismissed it as membrane irriation and really didn't take it seriously, due to my age and the unliklieness of cancer at…

shoulder pain?
I seem to be past the sore throat pain now and am eating food normal, although the appetite still is not there yet. Been about 8 weeks post radiation treatments now. But what about the constant burning and pain from the dissection? That was done on the 1st of July? Some days are worse than others. Last night I was up every…

I have not been on for a few months and came back recently with a question. I saw the Phrannie posts and I have been back a bit more to see how she is doing (she was so helpful to me). I have not seen any recent posts from DebbieJeanne. She was always supportive and a sweetheart. Is she doing ok? Does anyone know? Thanks…

Long time reader...first time posting...just completed 33 radiation sessions
Hello all! I've been reading this forum since I was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in January. After surgery for what was initially diagnosed as a benign tumor, it ended up being Stage II ACC of my submandibular gland. Since we thought it was benign, I ended up with positive margins and also had perinueral…

Ok...about this neck dissection.....
I've been half nervous to even look it up on the internet, but since my ENT seems to have trouble spelling things out, I did.... So....those of you have had one. Did you have physical therapy? How long before you were pretty much back to normal? I know there is going to be a limitation of movement, but how much of you…

Sometimes we got to have some fun....
We haven't done a pet post on here for a while.....and for those of us who have pets, we know that they make treatment a little easier....they make us laugh, they give us a reason to pull ourselves outside, even if it's just a pee run. These are my two girls....Lola and Betty (their names sound like they're part of a…

15 years post and now on a feeding tube
Hello all, I am new here and don't know where to start. In 2000 I did the 7wks radiation with 3 chemo treatments and then neck disection to remove lymphnodes at age 39. Recovery was slow but I made progress and life was somewhat back to normal. Well in Sept. 2013 I had to be put on a feeding tube from asperation and now I…

What a roller coaster....
After my PET scan, the ENT said "only in the two nodes"....I felt relieved hearing that. Then a week later I see the Oncologist and he says "well, not exactly....there's a spot in the pharnyx that lit up a little bit,,,2.7"....ok so I deal with that idea, thinking it's in the actual throat where I've never had cancer, talk…

Starting treatments this week!
Hopefully it's OK if I post about my lung cancer treatments here even though they aren't H&N. :-) The final decision is that the lung mass and nodes are inoperable, so I'm having 6.5 weeks of concurrent radiation and chemo (carboplatin+taxol). After that, I'll have two separate full-dose chemo treatments, three weeks…

Scope today
Today we had the follow-up nasopharyngeal scope following treatment. About three weeks ago we had gotten the all clear NED from the PET scan. Today's visual scope confirmed that the tumor is gone. What a blessing! Followup CT/MRI in 3 months and then another scope. Looks like that will be our routine for the next year.…

Encouragement
dear all, i saw this today and it made me feel so proud of my husbands scars and thankful for them. It also reminded me of all we went through since the day he was diagnosed. Time has passed. The scars have healed. We are doing well. Back during treatment it was hard to imagine we would get to this point. If you are just…

Just getting started and need info...HELP!!
Hey Everyone... I've struggled with hoarseness for six years. Over time, I've seen four ENT's without a solid diagnosis. I've been told by most it's acidreflux and prescribed meds...no help. I've had two endoscopoy's that showed no Barrett's or esophogus damage. However, my ENT (2013) found, and removed, two polyps. The…

Something Wrong With Tongue
Ok, so a couple of days ago, my throat began to hurt and I just thought that I was becoming ill and had tonsillitis or something. Today, it is still hurting but I don't feel ill. So I went to the mirror and touched the back of my throat with my finger and I felt a couple of lumps (which I then thought were the reason it…

Rhinectomy--any advice?
Hello all- This is my first time posting and attempting a new thread, so hopefully I am doing this correctly! I am writing on behalf of my dad (69 y/o), as we just learned he will undergo a full rhinectomy next week. Everything has happened very quickly - he was first diagnosed with a nasal tumor in late May, followed by…

Gravity feed bags
At one point the home health agency sent us a supply of 1000 ml gravity feed bags, but we didn't need them with the tube feeding. They are unopened and sealed but the agency can't take them back because they have been "in the home". If anyone can use these I am happy to mail them - please private message me. Barbara

Update on 2nd Go 'round w/SCC
We met with my FIL's surgeon on Tuesday and he said there was a 30-40% chance of the cancer coming back within the next 5 years without re-radiating. With radiation we would have a 20-25% percent chance that it would come back. Obviously percentages are only that, but at this point, the reward is not greater than the risk.…
