Hello, I am only 28 years old and very scared. I have been having rectal bleeding for about 6-8 months. I seriously thought it was just hemoroids. Becuase the bleeding comes and goes and I do strain sometimes and it bleeds after. Then I also suffer from panic attack/anxiety disorder... or so my doctor says i do. So I have…

Travel in 2006!
Greetings All.... I hope this finds everyone in a "tolerable" place in their journey... There has been some discussion about planning the Paloozas for 2006. The general idea is to have two trips, so that folks can make one or the other, depending on treatments, schedules, cash flow, etc. To date, the times of year seem to…

Vegas...
Hi everyone!!! I've been crazy busy at work and at home so I didn't have a chance log on. I'm so sorry I didn't meet up with the group in Vegas. It was Steve's 30th Bday and that morning his best friend and wife (our closest friends) surprised us that morning at breakfast all the way from Toronto! We ended up staying with…

re: In need of some encouraging words for friend
My friend will begin his radiation (rectal cancer) and chemo (Xeloda) this Monday. He is scared, to say the least. The long list of side effects for both treatments is overwhelming. He's afraid he'll have to stop working, lose his hair, become impotent (a couple of docs told him this was a given), won't be able to play his…

re: Radiation results - testing before 5 weeks
On a visit to the radiologist with my friend, one of my questions was "when will he get tested to see if the radiation is working?" The doctor replied that no testing (MRI/CT) is done until the entire regimen is given. I thought that was odd - what if the tumor in question shrinks significantly before the 5 week point? Why…

worried Pa surgery
Well, I spoke with my pa tonight, he is not doing well. The Dr. is doing a ct on him tonight to make sure he is doing o:k in the abdomen. I am not sure if this is normal. The Dr. said he has an infection and they do know he has a UTI and that could have caused his WBC to elevate but they were going to do a ct of his…

Question on Ned
Hi everyone, I was wondering to be NED did you have to have surgery to remove the tumor or did anyone become Ned from just Chemo? Also what is your exprience on how quick the tumors grow back after chemo. My dads tumors shrunk very small and he has stoped chemo. Im just curious how quickly they can grow again. I understand…

What can one expect after lower rectal surgery if they did NOT have a colostomy?
In other words, does the surgery create lasting bowel problems even with a sphincter intact? I.e. pain, pressure, discomfort? I'm beginning to think the colostomy is a better deal from all the reading I'm doing. Has anyone come out of this surgery being able to use their bowels close to the way they did before? Thanks so…

re: Radiation and other cancers
I hate to bring up an unpleasant topic but I need the truth. (Thanks, by the way, to those that responded to my post regarding Xeloda. Very helpful.) I read that radiation for one cancer most likely leads to the development of another cancer. Can I get some feedback about this? Again I'm inquiring for a friend that is not…
