My friend will start the Xeloda and radiation tomorrow. His doctor gave him 500 mg - three pills in the morning, two at night. Has anyone else out there had that dosage? 2500 mg. per day seems high to me from what I've been reading. I'm concerned about bad side effects - hand/food syndrome etc. I realize everyone is…

"Bass Ackwards"
Hello all... As you know, our type of cancer is dealt with, er, well, BACKWARDS! With that in mind, we have nailed down some details of the Paloozas to be held in 2006. The backwards part is that the latter trip is finalized, while the soonest one still needs "tweaking"! The first one, to be held sometime in April, will be…

My friend who is two days into his Xeloda/radiation treatment for rectal cancer has had a blockage for months causing constipation with pressure and pain. It works because everytime you click an ad in the search results the site gets money which then gets donated! We really need to spread the word and help…

Travel in 2006!
Greetings All.... I hope this finds everyone in a "tolerable" place in their journey... There has been some discussion about planning the Paloozas for 2006. The general idea is to have two trips, so that folks can make one or the other, depending on treatments, schedules, cash flow, etc. To date, the times of year seem to…

My friend will begin his radiation (rectal cancer) and chemo (Xeloda) this Monday. He is scared, to say the least. The long list of side effects for both treatments is overwhelming. He's afraid he'll have to stop working, lose his hair, become impotent (a couple of docs told him this was a given), won't be able to play his…

re: Radiation results - testing before 5 weeks
On a visit to the radiologist with my friend, one of my questions was "when will he get tested to see if the radiation is working?" The doctor replied that no testing (MRI/CT) is done until the entire regimen is given. I thought that was odd - what if the tumor in question shrinks significantly before the 5 week point? Why…
