cancer family
I have an unbelievable support system with my wife, family, friends, employer, and great doctors but as supportive as they are they will never fully understand the emotions that I have experienced 24/7 for the past 6+ years and I will experience for the rest of my life. And I hope they never do have to experience it. Evan…

Anyone know of a treatment for Mets confined to inside the peritoneum
My wife is currently NED (for about a month). She was on irinotican and xeloda and avastin. Is there something more I should be doing with her to pursue perhaps a better treatment regime? Right now the Dr. is considering it palliative Rx. I want a hope for a long term NED and even cure (though Dr. says no cure for stage…

Dennis Update and my funk...
Dennis is two weeks and two days out from liver resection... He is still moving very slow but did go to the barn today to brush his horse and then to the local tavern for lunch. The main nurse from UW Madison called all excited to say that his labs that were drawn last week were excellent (CEA that was 44 is now 18) which…

staring into the abyss of mCRC
The following is about me. If you can relate to this great, however, as Phil likes to point out, we are all different and my story may not hold any relevance to you or your disease. From the time I was diagnosed I believed my cancer was a little more benign than that of others whom I met and read about. Most who had a…

I have had slowly rising CEA and liver enzymes for a year now. LFTs 4x normal. CT normal last June. I was sent by onc to liver specialist who wanted to test for autoimmune disease; then, if neg, proceed to MRI of liver and possible biopsy. This week, Autoimmune results came back positive. Liver specialist now wants to…

Stage IV Good News
Today was the day I met with my oncologist to receive the results of my three-year scan. Everything was clear. I said to my doctor that I knew I wasn't out of the woods yet but I was so happy. Her response to me was, "I think you're out of the woods but there could be a few trees here and there." Ok, I will take it. I also…

Maybe I am just too sensitive on the subject
In tougher economy, fewer Americans get colonoscopy. High co-pays lead many to skip life-saving screen, study finds. http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=662103 I am fairly bothered by this. I am reading from people stating colonoscopies are more dangerous than they are beneficial. To which I am pretty sure I…

Update - HIPEC surgery??
Hi all, Well, unfortunately, we didn't get the news that we were hoping for today. We picked up the PET/CT scans (no time to wait for the written report) from Dana Farber and brought them directly over to the HIPEC surgeon. He told us that the scans showed some tumor growth, but not too bad, so he scheduled the HIPEC…

Not typical symptoms
I have had abdominal/pelvic pain on the lower left side and a backache. The doctor ordered a pelvic ultrasound to check for ovarian cancer, but I'm wondering if colon cancer ever presents this way. I had a colonoscopy 2 or 3 years ago.

And the next curve in the road...
Hi All, 2.5 weeks ago, beginning of round 9 of 12 Folfox after 30 minutes of Oxi infusion, my field of vision narrowed and I was on the brink of fainting. Nurses caught me and stopped the infusion. I was given Hydrocortisone and then they continued with a slower infusion pace. However, that round knocked me out like…
