Crazy, Sexy Cancer---really????
This post is written with the newbies in mind, but maybe others can relate: When I was dx in 2009, I read just about every inspirational cancer book I could find. There was something good (in some cases if I looked hard enough) from each of these books, but the rah-rah-rah really got to me, especially when the cold, hard,…

Five Surgeries, Two Failed Chemos, Now Finally NED for the 1st Time
In the 2 1/2 years that I've been in this fight, I never had a clean scan. Until this morning, that is. Had the PET/CT at 9:00, and had the email from the radiologist by 1:00...and it was NED. From brain to knees, absolutely no sign of cancer. I have an extremely rare tumor type that had spread all over in the abdomen…

One week after my husband had his liver resection (removing 65% of his liver) I got to bring him home yesterday. There were some ups and downs in the last week from uncontrolled pain to heart rhythm troubles. I am so thankful to be home and having him doing so well. I know that the going home doesn't always go as fast as…

surgery vs chem
Hi All, Sorry that I am going to ask a similar question again. Last time, my mom had to make decision to go for surgery or not prior to PET/CT scan result. She ended up with a 2.3 cm tumor in her liver right after 2 months from diagnosis and resection of half liver and part of rectum. We decided to go for surgery with a…

Post-liver resection scan results
Hey. About 6 weeks ago had Rt. lobe of liver removed, plus 3 sections of left. 12 tumors removed, but on this first post-op scan, it shows one tumor didn't have clear margins, now have a 2 cm. new spot. Largest one now-to-date. Heck. What a let down. Don't mean to be bearer of bad news, just have to vent. I thought I liked…

Has anyone done hyperbaric oxygen therapy...
for radiation cystitis that has affected the bladder? My husband is back in the hospital because he has been bleeding and passing clots when urinating for over a week. His hemoglobin went down to 6 and he needed a blood transfusion. The bleeding occurred once before (last Dec) but it stopped after a few days...he had a…

to know when to chemo
My husband had liver resection 8 days ago. His surgeon says she doesn't think there will be any chemo. I recall from past post that many do have chemo after this surgery (of course when recovered) and it is referred to as "mopping". Can you guys share your thoughts on whether chemo should be given in an attempt to make…

Update
I did meet with the liver specialist yesterday. His response to rising CEA and liver enzynmes (with clean CT) is to schedule MRI of liver. If that is negative, a liver biopsy. He was great at explaining the numbers and the possible outcomes. Although I don't look forward to any of it, I feel comfortable with the plan.…

Targeted Therapies in MCRC - optimum time for surgery
I just reviewed the following slide show given April 2011. One of the takeaways for me is that for Stage IV crc the optimum time for liver sugery is after about the 6th treatment. This is in part to prevent toxicity to liver from too much chemo. My wife's ONC has her scheduled for 12 treatments, after which the plan is to…

side effects/ experiences w/ drugs resource
Hey gang, I stumbled upon a website called treato.com that I think can be very helpful to people about to start a drug. It basically filters what people have said/ experienced about a particular drug in online discussion forums and boards in a very organized fashion. It's especially useful because people often post what…

Questions for those of you who have been on just Xeloda
A friend has been advised to go on Xeloda only (2 weeks of pills, 1 week off) as adjuvant chemo for his appendix cancer, and was wondering about Xeloda-specific side effects and ways to deal with them. I had Folfox + Avastin, so my experience was quite different from what he will be experiencing. What can you tell me about…
