Set Free
Sending loving kindness to everyone at this discussion board: I'm happy to report that I was recently "set free" by my Oncologists. At least that is what he calls it: being "set free". And, oh, does freedom feel good. Once I got through the first year after treatment for stage II anal cancer, the remaining four years went…

Fissure Formed Post Radiation Treatments....
...now I know why I am still in mild pain 18 Days Post Treatment...A "Hole or Fissure' has developed in the anus area...hurts after pooing. The Homecare Nurse took a photo and showed me. In order for it to 'heal' properly the area must be kept 'dry'...impossible that area very 'moist'. Using a 'folded ABD pad' in the…

I was 76 during treatment and already had mild osteoporosis. Since treatment I’ve had several, pelvic fractures but none since early 2017. For those of…

What to expect with no treatment
Hi everyone, I am new to this discussion group. Last November my husband was diagnosed with cancer of the anal canal. He was so bad that they had to do a colostomy right away so that he could eliminate. He had lost weight and was down to 99 lbs. He had to have 2 operations as the first one gave him peritonitis. He also has…

Has anyone ever had a Papillae?
Hi everyone! On my last colonoscopy, three months ago, the notes said that a papillae was found, and the GI said it wasn't anything to worry about and was normal. I had a digital exam yesterday and the oncologist felt it, and said he thought it was the same thing since it was in the same place as described in the notes.…

What to expect at one month follow up?
Hi, my dad finished his 5 and a half week of chemo-radiotherapy on July 11th. Tommorrow is his first follow up appointment. The doctor advised it is still early for a PET/MRI scan and its still too early to tell how well my dad is doing in terms of tumor treatment. His tumor was more than 5cm at time of diagnosis and his…

Hi, So I survived my broncoscopy to gather a lung biopsy today and while I don't like being put out or sedated, it all went quite well. Dietary changes?
So three months post-treatment my biopsy was clear and 6 months post the PET scan looks good. Still have occasional blood when I poo. I have an internal hemmeroid so it may be from that. What I have noticed is that I can;t really do processed sugars and definitely no greasy foods like burgers or pizza because the grease…

Colonoscopy story sad but funny
For the last 6 or so months I've had increasing and often unbearable right side lower abdominal pain. Nothing shows up on scans etc so at the urging of my oncologist and colorectal doctor I submitted to a colonoscopy thinking it might reveal what doesn't show up on scans. I met with a nice young gastrointestinal doctor and…

Anal cancer, part deux.
I treated with radiation, 5FU, and mytomycin for anal cancer in 2014 for stage 3b. In April, I had a routine CT scan that showed metastisis; a PET scan corroborated the finding. The local oncologist wanted me to have a colonoscopy, which I did. Besides the radiation damage to my anal canal, everything was perfectly fine.…

Has Anyone Explored the Immunotherapy Drugs?
I have been researching the new immunotherapy drugs as a possible alternative to chemo-radiation treatment for anal cancer. I am talking about drugs such as Keytruda (pembrolizumab) and Opdivo (nivolumab). There are others. Has anybody here gone this route for anal cancer? Perhaps via a clinical trial? Or via some…
