One year out from treatment - Woo Hoo!
I'm so excited. I fell the need to celebrate. Hubby and I will go out for Frozen Yogurt later today. One year ago today, I had my last Radiation treatment (and 5FU contunous hook-up the week before). It seems I just dodged the bullet with more treatment after my Liver Ablation, so I think a celebration is called fore.…

Vectibix (panitumumab) experiences - advice please
Hi all, my husband's oncologist yesterday suggested adding Vectibix to his Folfiri chemo in 2 weeks. His tumors previously removed have been tested for the KRAS mutation and he would likely benefit from this new drug. He is quite upset about the side effects of an acne-type rash. Oncologist had talked about adding Avastin…

Glucose restriction to starve cancer - an update
when my wife Patricia was ill I had learned of evidence which strongly suggested that dramatic reductiion in glucose levels could starve cancer cells which rely more heavily on glucose than most normal cells (which is why your cancer lights up on a PET scan - the radiaoctive glucose which you take is taken up…

Advice Requested
I went in today for another CEA test. My onc. has been watching CEA very closely (monthly tests) as it has been highly correlated with cancer in my case. Unfortunately my CEA level has climbed from under 1.0 (5/8/14) to 2.0 (6/5/14) to 3.0 (today 7/7/14). My oncologist said this is likely a trend. However, he said that…

On my way to urgi center
Apparently the back pain manifested in shingles yesterday. I've seen two doctors already My oncologist wants to meet me tonight to decide for himself. There should be a law that is strictly enforced. No one with cancer should have ANYTHING else wrong with them! Picture me frustrated.

in the hospital again
My husband has been admitted to the hospital again this time for c-diff and dehydration. Hospice will be coming to my house on Friday. They tell me he will just slip away in his sleep. He has a fentanyl patch on for pain and is getting morphine for pain all of which isn't working. Very sad here Sandi

Can We Talk About Poop, Please?
For the past couple years, I've noticed a change in my stool. It started out with a noticeable groove (not the musical kind) in the stool and have been getting flatter and flatter. I had a colonscopy in 2012 which noted a hemorrhoid and some minor divertculosis and more fiber was suggested. No polyps were found, and the…

Learned an important lesson
Hi there, Two months ago, we were told my husband had colon cancer and the large 'mass' would have to be removed by surgery and chemo/radiation would be initiated if the tests showed that it had spread. Flash forward 2 months later, and it turns out he does NOT have colon cancer but had a large flat polyp that was removed…

So sorry!
I couldn't help but notice that no one responded to one of my posts and I'm worried that I offended you. I would never do that in a million years because everyone helped me so much when we were told 2 months ago that my husband had colon cancer. I was devestated because he has a host of medical issues, mostly related to…

Nausea and Flu Like Symptoms Post Surgery?
I had CRC surgery (and hernia surgery) last year and don't remember experiencing the following issues after those surgeries. I just completed my scheduled kidney surgery on Tuesday, 7/8: DaVinci Robotic Assisted Partial Left Nephrectomy for RCC. Surgery took 3 1/2 hours - as they had a hard time "turning the kidney" so…

No more chemo to be had for mom
Today the oncologist came to the hospital to see my mother and told my father and myself that her body can no longer handle the chemo/radiation. She is in the last stages (no time frame as of yet) of advanced colorectal cancer. She has fought hard the past three years, but over the last month she has become so frail and…

Been a bit absent -- just a quick update
My sweet husband has made it through 4 weeks of radio/5-FU. Today, it finally hit him that his treatments could take him through Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's -- and he may finally be done for St. Valentine's or St. Patrick's. He's been so focused on this first round. He has some thinking to do, and some adjusting. I…

Folfiri + avastin didnt work
We started second line chemo - Folfiri + avastin for my mom's recurrence of nodes in pelvis, in March. We took 6 cycles (each cycle at every 3 weeks interval because of her counts) and we were monitoring CEA throughout. From 52 it came down to 6 but after 6th cycle it went to 15 and we went for a pet scan. The scan showed…

It Breaks my Heart
It breaks my heart at the amount of people succumbing to this horrible disease. I just wanted to take a moment and let everyone know who is suffering from this atrocious disease that you are all being prayed for and thought of daily along with my own prayers for my own husband. I hope you can all either find a way to fight…

Oh Blech. EXERCISE.
Hey there crc folks! As some of you may remember, I went to a specialist recently to discuss my ongoing joint and muscle problems. One of the things she highly recommended, after watching me move around like a 90 year old lady on an especially bad day, was increasing my physical activity. Apparently, "physical activity"…

Biopsy
Finally got the biopsy results back from the endoscopy and he only noted that there was some irritation to the stomach but there was no infections and no cancer of any kind. She said no, my appt…

Post liver surgery CEA results July 8th - 3.5
This is my third set of results since my Liver Ablation in April, and I am happy to report that my CEA continues to drop, going down this time to 3.5. My Oncologist is still wary, wanting it to drop below 3, but he did give me the all clear to GO TO ENGLAND. WOOOO HOOOO! I will have my second follow-up CT scan next month,…
