We are BACK!
Hi everyone, We are home from our extended trip to Costa Rica and Panama. We had an amazing adventure. For a month I was able to leave all things cancer behind and live. I did really well physically. 5 months after my last major surgery I was able to hike, explore, swim and even ride ATV's. In Costa Rica we stood at the…

Dehydration with Ostomy
My issue isn't a dramatic one but it is an issue for me and I don't know what to do about it. I'm not good at googling things and can never seem to get the information I'm looking for. So I have the illeostomy and have dehydration because of it. I drink all day and drink so much that I end up going to the bathroom over and…

Strictures, Inflamed colons, Obstructions, Just can't go?
Okay, before I start, I have to warn whoever's reading this that some people might find this post a little graphic. I'm not shy talking about bodily functions, so beware! I, like many of us, have had a myriad of problems going to the bathroom even half-way normally since our GI issues started. For me it started with the…

Newly Diagnosed Stage III
I was recently diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer (age 51). No family history at all. See the cancer centre on Oct. 11 to discuss chemo (1 positive lymph node). Arrived on this site after reviewing many depressing statistics. I'm much more optomistic after reading some of the stories especially those who are longterm…

22 year old daughter just diagnosed with Stage IV CRC
My wife and i are beside ourselves. Our 22 year old daughter with Crohn's just had her colon removed (small tumor on colon during biopsy) and now has an ostomy bag which she is fine with. During surgery they found additional cancer on her peritoneum. Everything I read scares me immensely about outcome. In any event, they…

Anyone have experience with irinotecan
hi, my husband has bowel cancer 2009. then thyroid cancer in 2012. Around same time they found spots on his lungs. So he has secondary lung cancer (bowel mets ) treated with avastin and capecitibine. Then he developed a tumour in his right arm (bone) and rib. The chemo worked on Lung tumours but not on bone. So. Now he has…

Abrub Surgery Update
Surgery lasted 10 1/2 hrs yesterday. 3 surgeons working their specialities. Lots of tiny dissections to carefully remove the tumor without violating nearby organs. The 5 hours in the PACU before being placed in a room at 2:30 in the morning. Word has it that surgery was successful, but that I will need the IntraPeritoneal…

Stopping 5-FU while it’s still working?
First time poster, long time reader here. I was dx’d Stage IV with numerous unresectable liver metastases in Jan ’10, and am going on my 10th treatment of FOLFOX plus Avastin. I’ve had decent tumor and CEA response so far, but am still unlikely to ever be resectable (though I’m getting another opinion from MSKCC soon).…

Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer
My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer that spread to his liver and abdominal lymph nodes. A week later he began chemo therapy. Oxaliplatin ever 3 weeks and Xaloda for 2 weeks on and one week off. After a few days, he had a horrible reaction to the Xaloda. He was having severe chest pains, so they…

Mets to liver and lung
Going to be fighting this for the third time. Just found out that I have two spots on liver and one on lung. Last year I had only only one spot on liver which they removed followed by chemo. Finished chemo in September. Now just a few months later I have more mets to liver and now my lung. I am very scared because it keeps…

Sharing
Hello fellow fighters. I though I'd drop in and share a couple things.., In my onc's recommendation I read "The Obesity Code." This was a very interesting view on fighting weight gain. I think it also ties into fighting against cancer recurrence too. Has anyone else read this book? Also, there is a telethon on tonight to…

New Allergies Coming Up?
It's hard not to attribute anything new that hapens that makes no sense to the cancer and chemo and radiation and all that happy crappy. I have a new allergy that I'm still trying to figure out what the cause of it is and I'm just wondering if this could be something that can happen after all the poisons we get pumped…

Surgery In A Few Hours On Lung
So will be a little scarce for a bit. Some "Ah ^&^# not again" happening right now. Just getting ready to get my butt out of bed ASAP and doing those wonderful MSK laps to get released quickly. (You all taught me that the last time through )

New here- advice on managing chemo & it's my birthday today
Hi all: Today is my 46th birthday and I am trying to recover from the side effects of my first chemo treatment. I had my port put in on Wednesday and my first treatment on Friday with a two hour Oxalalipin (spelling??) infusion onsite. Then I went home with a 5FU (spelling??) pump for 46 hours. The Oxa side effects of the…

Any help for 5FU reflux feeling?
First, hello to all. I am new to CSN but have been reading posts for a week or so. The care and support between members is wonderful. I'm happy to have found this site, to give and receive what help I can. I have a take-home pump that dispenses fluorouracil / 5FU over 46 hours. The drug causes a reflux-like feeling of…

3 options left for me
Hey eveyone, it has been a long time since i have written, or even well enough to write to you. I meet with my Dr. today to go over my options since i kind of jumped the gun and had a CT scan done while i was in the hospital for pain. The results came back and they were not to good, basically everything is still growing…

Appendix Cancer
Dear Friends, I have always gladly made myself available to help others, especially those with appendix cancer. However, for the next few weeks at least, I won't be answering emails and such, as I have to take care of myself. I've had a recurrence after 9 years of NED, and am headed to Sloan Kettering for more surgery in a…

Stage IV survival without chemo...it happens
Back with a fury! Actually, passion is a better word! This is a looooong post, so please bear with me! There's at least a little twist at the end! First of all, I'm so happy to see so many of my old friends still on here that I haven't talked to since I left the board in 2010. I know a lot of us left soon after Donna died;…

Jaw pain with chemo
In addition to the sensitivity to cold in my hands, feet and mouth, I now experienced pain in my jaw when I tried to open my mouth too wide. Has anyone else had this symptom. I just had my 2nd treatment with Oxypalaitin (sp?) and sent home with a pump with 5FU that gets removed on Weds. Ellen

Isolated
I just completed the 7th of 12 treatments. I am getting the Fluorouracil, Klor-Con M20, Leucovorin Calcium, and Oxaliplatin. The neuropathy associated with these makes me feel very isolated. These last 3 days have been horrible. All I can do is cry. I thought today was going to be better but then my daughter got up nagging…

My CT scan results
So I got my results today from the ct scan a couple of weeks ago. Not bad news but not good news, either. I wish they'd say I'm NED or that they can find no signs or something more definitive than what they say. It never seems to be a 100% answer and its hard to keep getting answers that are non answers. It's much better…

Long term effects of treatment
I think this subject might be of some interest to those who are currently in treatment, and those who are out of treatment will probably relate to some, if not all of it. My last radiation treatment was October, 2007, and my last chemo (Folfox) treatment was April, 2008. I've had four to seven surgical procedures; some of…

Old post about wristbands just gave me such an idea.....5 year survival -celebrating 46-3/4
I'll be celebrating turning 46-3/4 this September as my 5 years survival. My grandson just turned 4 and I'm 3.5 years NED. I remember the day my grandson was born was filled with such strange, mixed emotions. My cancer had just returned and I was about to start my chemo I told my family that if I live to be 47 then I'll…

It's back!
After nine years, my cancer is back with a new tumor, hopefully isolated. I'll be having surgery again at Sloan Kettering (Dr. Paty) probably followed by EPIC. I really thought I was done. Dam. Alice
