Preserving Orginal Serous Cancer Speciman in Parafin
I called my pathologist that read my orginal report on my uterine cancer. He said they preserve it in parafin for quite some time and tests can be added at a later date. He was not sure what tests could be added. I am not familiar with the molecular testing or tissue assay they perform. But I know they are testing for…

For Linda
Dear Linda, I try to be tactful, but when I am worried about someone I get a little bolder. I am worried about you. You said you are going back on taxol. My gyn Onc said she would use topocatan (I do not have the spelling, I am sure we can find it online) if I relapsed within eight months. I am not sure that is given with…

PET vs. CT scan
I'm about to get my first scans done following treatment and am wondering why everyone talks about getting CT scans.... it is my understanding that a PET scan shows more detail than a CT scan which is consisent with that fact that my doc did a PET scan last spring after the CT scan showed abnormalities. I've seen some…

Post treatment pap tests
Are any of you getting routine pap smears after the hysterectomy, chemo and radiation? My understanding is that the top of the vagina is a common site for reoccurance. Wouldn't that make it important to do pap smears to that area to check for changes in that tissue? Are any of your doctors recommending pap smears? I am…

Could everyone please post any info they have on the food cancer connection?
Spices, veggies anything. Site addresses for us to reference, books, just about anything that might help in addition to what everyone's already doing? Mary Ann, you had some spice suggestions somewhere, could you repeat them please? Thanks, any info can benefit all of us. claudia

We're such girls
I was lying in bed all snuggled up nice and warm, letting the days events wander around in my mind when I happened to think about us, and I started to laugh. Here we all are facing this uncertain life and possible death, and even then what do we do? We try to protect everyone from any pain, though it costs us dearly. It's…

Again, can't recommend highly enough Dr. Boik's book, Natural Compounds in Cancer Therapy. Free onli
He explains how cancer gets started, foods that can act on and defeat it and how to incorporate the proper foods with chemo and/or radiation for the best possible results. Aside from the last two months, an anti-cancer nutritional approach has been my only treatment. I don't know if it will be enough, but I do know that my…

Electronic records
Several months ago I remember a segment on NPR about this new technology which is being piloted at Geisinger in PA where Linda is getting treatment- and maybe other locations. Linda, you might want to inquire about this. With this we are supposed to be able to access our medical records online anytime. This would certainly…

I'm dedicating the month of December's photo, to my daughter, Summers, and her courageous spirit.
So, no, that's not me. That's my daughter. I admire her spirit and her ability to bend with the wind that is blowing her through some tough times, and respond with joy and laughter. Claudia

How COLD is it while you wait before a PET scan?
I was reading about PET scan procedures so I'd be ready for mine tommorrow, as I've never had a PET-scan. I read that you may have to lie still an hour as the contrast works its way through your body before the scan. I hate to be cold, and those rooms are always freezing. My worry is that I will involuntarily shiver during…

1st experience with Chemo
I am going to experience my first Chemo treatment on this Monday. I will also be receiving brachtheray in a few months in between chemo treatments. It has been suggested to me to find some support online since my family will not truly understand what I'm going through. The procedures and the expected results have been…

Message for "thank you"
Hi "thank you" - I saw in a post that your mother's virginal cuff lit up on a PET scan. The same thing has happened to me. My doctor has said that it's too early to know if it's anything significant. I thought that lighting up was a sign of cancer? What did your mom's doctor say about it?? Thanks, Mia

Internal Radiation or Not??
After 6 chemo treatments for Uterine Cancer Stage IV, my CA 125 has gone down from 825 before surgery and chem to 7 and my PET CT Scan just reported "normal". Now my Radiologist wants to do 3 treatments of internal radiation. I think it is just prevention of possible reoccurance. I am not sure I want to do it after finding…

What chemo drugs HAVE been approved for uterine cancer (& so likely covered by insurance) ?
I can't remember if we've ever had this conversation. What other chemo drugs besides caboplatin and paciltaxol have been approved for uterine cancer? Can we all please post any other chemo drugs we have been prescribed that were covered by insurance? Doxil? Tamoxifam? Avastin? Gleevac?

Terrifying news: my CA-125 went up to 154!! They are calling for hurry-up CT-scan to see if my canc
What can I say? I'm devastated. My oncologist even apologized for giving me the news over the phone. The man who thought he 'cured' me yesterday clearly thinks otherwise today. I am still in shock. They'll be calling me with an appointment for a CT-scan within the next couple of days and then my chemo-onc wants to see me…
