Stage 4 Grade 3 Edometrial Cancer

Hi All - My wife at the age of 39, (no children) was diagnosed with a stage 4 grade 3 edometrial adenocarcinoma in Oct. 2008 that has metastasis. She had 6 chemo treatments (taxol/carbo) one treatment every 3 weeks / 25 external radiation treatments and 1 internal brachetherapy which required a one night stay in the hospital. Her CA 125 to start was 2290 and then went down to 20. The last 3 months it has been at 41, 40, 41. The doctors talked about a pelvic exonoration. Is their anyone out there in the same boat??? Thank you!

Thanks! My wife continues to work full-time. She supervises about 40 staff and her work keeps her mind off of things. We have had our ups and downs. We take life day by day.

She sounds like me.....trying to keep things going. Has she had surgery? What is her upcoming treatment routine?

I have stage 4 b grade 3 endometrial cancer,I am now 51, got total historectomy june 15 got chemo july 15
cisplatin, andromisn , and taxol (sp) no radiation. been told by my new gyn/onc that she would give me those 3 chemos also, got 6 every 3 weeks with newlasta
dont know what my ca 125 was,pre chemo as my former gyn onc did not believe in ever doing ca 125 EVER, with endometrial cancer, the new gyn/onc is disapointed in this, my ca 125 was accidentaly added after 2 nd chemo it was 35 , went down to 20 at the end of the chemo cycle, back up to 34 `1 month after last chemo,
my doc said that most stage 4 cancer comes back, and reminded me that she said "most " not all,
I have been looking for same type /stage people as me,
so what is going on right now with her? has the cancer recured?

I guess I should start from the beginning: Oct 08 my wife ended up in the ER with abdominal pain. She passed a blood clot and the abdominal pain went away. 3 days later she seen her GYN. Another GYN came into the room and also gave her a physical exam, something was very wrong and at that point we did not know what was going on. The GYN said we are sending you to the U and we were on our way to the U the very next day. She was admmitted and testing started. We got the devastating news the next day. We were told it's very uncommon for a 39 year old to have a cancer like this, they said usually women in their late 50's, early 60's have this type of cancer. My wife's mother died of breast cancer at the age of 43. After she had all her treatments, the GYN/ONC doctor stated he was trilled that she was going to make it to her 41st birthday because she had a good response to treatment. At one point they were looking at debulking surgery, but the doctor said no and that she will never be cured or cancer-free due to it being in the muscle and pubic bone and the stage / grade. I guess everybody is so different. We did seek a second opinion. The new GYN/ONC felt that surgery would be an option but it turned out no, due to a recent PET Scan lighting up more that the previous one. Although it has not spread out of the original site. The GYN/ONC surgeon said surgery could still happen but they would have to remove the ovaries, bladder, rectum, vagina, colon, uterus, tubes, basically everything in the pelvic region. With this surgery the chances of the cancer coming back, even if they were to get it all, was 90%. The doc also said she's at a high risk of not healing proper due to the massive radiation treatments she had. A year of recovery time. WOW, not good odds. So my wife decided against it, and I fully supported her decision. She now takes Tamoxifen once daily, due to the cancer testing positive for Estrogen. It is the hope that the Tamoxifen will shrink the estrogen. The ONC will recheck her in 3 months to see if it's working. We are thrilled to be on a 3 month break from all the hectic appointments.
